In arabic 'al shaab' means 'the people' and shaabi translates to folk or popular music. The term has been used for decades but, in recent years a new generation of producers, rappers and singers have revolutionized the style.. On the one hand there are the samples of traditional egyptian instruments, the hypnotic rhythms of the religious festivals and wedding parties (mulids and mahraganat) and the songs of lament (mawal). On the other hand, the influence of global dance music from hip-hop to reggaeton to electro pop and house music are all present although in this mix i chose to focus on tracks that have a predominantly egyptian flavor.. For the most part, these songs are self produced in tiny back room studios with cracked music software programs and after years of development, these guys are finally starting to get their due.. As promised, here's my new mix! Liquid drum and bass has been one of my favorite genres for years now so it was about time to make the first long dnb mix for the channel. The mix concentrates on the same melodic and smooth side of drum and bass I mainly feature on the channel. Not much else to say about it other than I love all the tracks, some of them were found in the early days of the channel while others were found just recently but will be played over and over again.

December Mix

A quick, fun project I worked on during the Holidays. It started as more of a playlist and next I knew it ended up being a +70 min. long mix.

I have been totally in awe of the amount of quality work coming out of Russia and East Europe lately in the past few years. Russians in particular have taken Future Garage (and all its sub branches) into heart and have elevated it to a level all their own. The likes of Nuage, Volor Flex, Delete, etc. are growing and thriving constantly to the point that to keep track of them it is more of a full time job. The idea for this mix was to share work of some of the newer, younger, less known talent coming from there to offer a sample of quality of work. Craset ( https://soundcloud.com/cra-set/ ) and https://soundcloud.com/sloati are two newer finds who have totally and consistently have surprised me recently so they are the main two producers featured throughout this mix.

This was a spare of the moment project. If it gets enough positive response, I may think about making it another mix series on its own. There is enough good work out there that I think the idea may have some legs to run.  Hope you like it. All comments and feedback are welcome.

Electric Forest was the most beautiful festival experience I’ve ever had. Lots of incredible surprises and moments: between moving to the Sherwood Court on WKND1, to play on Tripolee during a hot day (but still having so many of you guys hanging out with me!!), and to have an additional set on Jubilee at night on WKND2… I came back to France sooo inspired!

It was a must for me to share this mix with you, as playing there was one of my dreams, and I want to thank all of you for being there during this amazing journey. I’m now very happy to share with you my mix from the Sherwood Court Stage (The Tripolee set was 90% similar).

Re:Me, formally known as DeePone, has been making waves in the local Calgarian electronic music scene for over a decade. After dabbling in numerous genres, he now focuses on the eclectic side of house, techno and disco. Working alongside BassBus, and having residencies in many well known clubs in Calgary, he has grown in popularity over the years which has led to appearances at festivals such as Shambhala, Bass Coast, Lightning In A Bottle, Oregon Eclipse, and Symbiosis.  When not dj’ing, Re:Me also devotes a lot of his summer leading the Radio Stage build at Bass Coast Music festival.

Music is my therapy ...It all started with being mesmerized listening to the hypnotic beat of Kraftwerk’s “Trans Euro Express” on a tiny cassette player at a very young age and it continues to this day at an age when I have to worry about “more important” things in life.
