Katon – Receiver EP [IDR001] OUT NEXT FRIDAY

Roll in the new with the darkest, freshest beats as Identity Records brings you the next chapter from the underground. The Receiver EP by Katon has culled together four distinctive numbers that push the envelope of DnB through gravity defying subs, crackling undercurrents, and gunshot styled snares.

The title track, “Receiver,” opens up the release, bringing in squalls of bass growls backed by ominous tones. When the drop first hits, it sucks you into a black hole of vibration while the precisely crafted shuffle of the hat section sends shivers up the spine. Brough all together, this is one that grabs hold and makes you forget everything outside of it.

A surging bassline and a hard driving rhythm instantly establish “Espionage” as the powerhouse that it is. This song reveals the prowess of this producer in crafting so much with so little. With bass, drums, samples, and otherworldly atmospheres he crafts an infectious tune that outclasses any competition.  As a result, the simple dynamic shifts of the song construct a distinctive vibe you can’t find anywhere else.

“Croak” is a low-end stepper that feeds the mind while shaking the should. With a descending bassline and a steady groove, it’s impossible to resist dancing to this one. The subtle clicks and mutant sounding FX that dot the landscape further drive the mind into hyperspace, leaving you exhausted yet feverishly craving more. 
For the closing number, Katon delivers “Thief.” Molding an ingenious beat that blends seamlessly with the low end, as well as the ghostly orchestration, makes for a vibe heavy track which takes you by surprise. A craftily placed vocal sample brings the drop in, and it hits with all the force of an atomic bomb. Overall, this one showcases the exciting experimental potential this genre continues to bring to the world.
