Behrang Najafi – Kudos to Grischa Lichtenberger

Behrang Najafi, a musician and sound artist from Tehran, Iran, embarked on his musical journey as a guitarist and drummer in local bands. In 2010, he transitioned into the realm of electronic experimentation, adopting the moniker "Bescolour."

Beyond his solo pursuits, Behrang is a driving force behind the electronic/experimental duo "Temp-Illusion," alongside the talented Shahin Entezami. Together, they form an innovative partnership that pushes the boundaries of electronic experimental composition, bringing Shahin's unique contributions to the duo's evolving sound.

As a founding member of the SET festival in Tehran, Behrang actively contributes to the vibrant intersection of art and music. His collaborative works with Shahin have found a home on esteemed labels like “Zabte Sote/Opal Tapes”, “Soft Recordings”, “Flaming Pines”, and "PTP".

Behrang's sonic explorations have not only graced these labels but have also resonated at renowned venues and festivals worldwide. From the SET Experimental Art Events and CTM festival to the Roskilde Festival and Berghain Club, their live performances have left an indelible mark on diverse audiences.

In the midst of Tehran Contemporary Sounds, Mutek Japan, SETXCTM festival, Alice venue, and more, Behrang Najafi and Shahin Entezami's collaborative tapestry continues to evolve, creating a profound impact on the electronic and experimental music landscape.

An Moku is a sound artist and bass guitar player with a spot for experimental and ambient soundscapes from Zurich, Switzerland. In 2008 he began with the initial recording sessions for AN MOKU. The literal translation of the Japanese word «Anmoku» is “tacit, unsaid, implicit” conveying that an idea or thought cannot be put into words but is subconsciously understood. Inspired and animated, with this approach, Dominik’s abstract, cinematic music gives the listener room for imagination and interpretation. His approach to ambient is highly personal, as he manages to generate tension with a hidden musicality, drowned in a miasma of organic, yet manipulated, sounds. Born in 1977 in Gdynia. Raised on a soundtrack of bubbly 80’s synth pop and early 90’s guitar music. Playing e-bass in several bands in Germany’s former coal-mining hub, the Ruhr district, from 1993 to 1995, he gained experiences in a wide variety of musical genres. This is followed by numerous performances with supporting acts for Whitney Houston, Joe Cocker, Marla Glen as a hired bass-guitar player by the singer and songwriter Daniel Denecke amongst others from 1998 through to 2001. Inspired by many experiences during travels, encounters and further training Dominik started to explore sound in different and uncommercial ways and founded the music project: AN MOKU.

Wondering o is ambient project that is product of wandering sunrays through summerhouse dirty windows,covered with spider webs. wondering o music is unpretentious, giving listener space to tune in on it´s brain waves.If EGO is tired of attention, ears can be sharpen to find multiple layers of nuances and morphoses of calming soundscapes. Music is best preceived with open heart-and senses.

Wondering O - Passive Aggressive

Sylvain Monchocé (Gayageum, taegeum, contrabass flute and alto saxophone) and Andrea Tonero (prepared piano and electronics) are two musicians from the Conservatoire Royal de Mons, where they met and began playing experimental music together during their studies of classical flute and piano. Right now Sylvain studies free contemporary improvisation at the Hochschule für muzik Basel and Andrea is studying composition at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons with Claude Ledoux. Still deeply involved in making music together, they always seek new ways to create sound, structures for improvisation and interactions between musicians.

Music made post lockdown but without meeting, we sent each other layers of sound for the other to have a canvas for improvisation. There was no visual contact nor clues about the evolution of the music, but we tried to keep it fresh and alive despite this constraint, and with as little editing as possible gave back improvisations on top of those free form backing tracks.

Monchoce Tonero - Anaeri

“01Duo” is working on live audio performances, audiovisuals, installations, game sound design and performance arts. “01Duo” was formed in Tehran, Iran, 2018 by two sound artists Farbod Maeen and Deniz Tafaghodi. 

Farbod Maeen Born in 1985.02.11, Tehran, Iran. Graduated in Power and electricity engineering and interior design architecture. Started his career in music as a Jazz and Blues guitar player with Bahman Nasri in 2001, Composing Music and sound designing for dance performances, theaters, films , games since 2009.

Deniz Tafaghodi Born in 26.08.1997, Tehran, Iran. Studied B.A in Music, Azad Art and Architectures University of Tehran. She started playing the piano since 2003 and composing music and Sound designing for theater, contemporary dance , games, performance arts since 2012.

This quadraphonic piece for two computers and a turntable is made by mixing the pure and processed sounds of locked grooves (the inner groove on a vinyl record in the form of a closed loop, which traps the tonearm and needle, preventing it from entering the label area).
These loops are not exactly the same each time they are played, because of some condition changes(grooves damage, dust,cartridges,needles,etc.)
So this piece will change in each performance, even though it has a specific music sheet in ABAَ form.
The poly-rhythmic part turns into an ambient space, then back to the variations of the first part.

Kamyar Behbahani is an Iranian composer and soundartist from the city of #Shiraz in Iran. Karim Ebrahimi is a musician in the field of traditional Persian music and a player of Tombak, Iranian percussive instrument.

silo portem is an experimental music and multi-media duo, who are also married (and used to go by the name mrandmrsyoung many moons ago!). live mash-ups, mixing and manipulating found sounds from the abyss of noise, creating a sonic soup for the mind. Multi-layered textures of sonic mayhem that defy categorisation, experimental films, photography, abstract art and sculpture.

This composition is based on the sounds from Idin Samimi Mofakham's piece with the same name; Silo Portem uses this method (composition using sound samples as the material from another artist) and they have a brilliant album that is produced using the similar method for Arshia Samsaminia, you can find about it on their bandcamp profile below:

Anna Sowa – born in 1987 in Limanowa (Poland). In 2011 she graduated with distinction from major in eurhythmics at the Academy of Music in Łódź and composition at master studies in prof. Zygmunt Krauze’s composition class (2016). In years 2014 – 2015 she was an Erasmus + student at the Faculty Composition and visualisation prof. Dietrich Hahne Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen (Germany).

She has been presenting her pieces during Musica Moderna Sessions in Łódź on a regular basis for four years. She cooperates with Off Harnam Group and their joint project ”Roots” was presented among others at Harnam’s Anniversary Concert in Łódź and during the Festival Improvisation Contact– ”Fru” in 2012. In November 2012 she took part in the intercollegiate concert of composition students at the Academy of Music in Poznań. She was a co- organiser of The Controlled Festival in Radom held within the project ”Lutosławski – Promesa 2013” and “Kolberg – Promesa 2014” (Projects of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). In February 2013 she created the piece ”The quintet” deemed to be (recommended) for choreography at the National Competition of Movement Interpretations held during the Third Meetings with Eurhythmics for schools of 2nd degree (Radom). In March 2013 she created the music for the performance ”The Maids” based on Łódź. Farbod Hamed (NoiseSpace) is an electronic musician from Tehran. He have studied English translation. He produced electronic music since 6 years ago.

In this piece Farbod is improvising using the noise and his own field-recordings as the material, he compose pieces by real-time processing the material, he is interested in employing glitch rhythms in his sets.

Deniz Tafaghodi (b.1997) is an educated musician and sound artist. She holds a B.A in Music from Azad Art and Architectures University of Tehran. Deniz started playing the piano since 2003 and composing music and sound-design for theater, contemporary dance, games, performance arts since 2012. At present she is working at Zerone Duo (Tehran-based electronic duo) as a sound designer.

Quiescence is a quadraphonic piece which is composed for a contemporary dance performance (Not to be / choreographed by Amir Amiri- 2018)
Piano lines heard from speakers inside the scene and the electronic sounds heard from the rear speakers, near the audience in darkness. This scene was like a silence in a music piece and gives time to audience to think momentarily.

Deniz Tafaghodi - Quiescence

Idlefon is Hesam Ohadi (b. 1987 in Tehran), an Iranian Canadian computer musician and sound artist based in Calgary, Canada.

Idlefon's output has often been influenced by daily existence in the urban center of Tehran and later on by the natural beauty of their home province Alberta. Ohadi has previously released Idlefon's music on Tympanik Audio; as of 2021, Ohadi has found a home for his output with the Oakland-based emotive experimental label n5MD. Faded and processed vocals can also be heard throughout the album among deep pads and harsh rhythms that mark their familiar sounds.
