Chaos in the CBD

Zona Del Silencio or the Zone of Silence is an area deep in the Mexican desert. It is the home of several rare, mutant species of animals (including the purple cactus and a malformed version of the desert tortoise). The area’s name derives from an odd anomaly that prohibits radio waves from transmitting inside the zone. When asked about the strange phenomena, the locals invariably reply that they do not see strange things in the desert, only strange people.

Amadeus sees it’s catalog graced yet again by New Zealand outfit Chaos In The CBD. The kiwi brothers, birthed Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales, are no new faces to the label, or the wide variety of genre-bending acronyms they encompass. Having recently relocated from tropical Auckland to damp London earlier this year, the two take their productions along with them in their latest efforts, 816 To Nunhead.

Title track and aside, “816 To Nunhead,” is tinged with what’s left of summer. A nostalgic tune built for the sun and soaked in funk. It’s a track reminiscent of early french disco, almost as if built for the two robots themselves. Guitar plucks and hi hats flow seamlessly throughout the tune, aided by a glorifying vocal, “I would like to think of my music as just an extension, an extension of me of today or whatever.”

What emotion of freedom and escape evoked on the Aside can be contrasted on the flip, “78 To Stanley Bay,” a tune built behind the ever looming theme of loneliness. Accompanied by a live trumpet courtesy of Isaac Aesili, ’78 To Stanley Bay’ tells us a story, or rather a journey, built behind dirty hats and delayed keys. This is a track fashioned for everywhere but the club, and we absolutely love that.

Classic Bedrock prog monster from back in 2001. I kept the original bassline and that muscular brekdown and added my own drums, percussion and replayed the synth line. The main feature is now it's not 130bpm and I can now play it in my sets!

Berlin-based talent Tony Casanova steps away from his usual disco antics in a four track EP bridging deep tech and minimal.


Lost Again kicks off swiftly with a rattling sequence, layered on heavy percussion and suspense-inducing chords. Distorted vocal chops add a sense of mystery, enhancing the spirit of adventure into the unknown imprinted by the melody.. Developing into a spoken word-like sequence, the vocals add to the atmosphere, just before a violin break takes center stage.


End of Game evokes a familiar and nostalgic ambiance, aptly crafted through wistful loops and dreamy percussion. Delving into an array of synths at peak point, it induces a hypnotic state, sustained by high vibrant strings, conjuring up an emotive environment.
Julian Wassermann dives in on remix duties, providing two solid alternatives to End of Game. 

The first remix strips down the elevated twists, reverting to the melodic backbone and emphasising the track’s dance appeal. The Error Remix offers a more dynamic bend to the construction, that draws in from the get go and surprises with a punch-heavy bassline and compelling groove.

For their third release, @forthepeople-to are excited to present to you "Reminiscence" by @hauymusic. Originally from Brazil, he moved to Toronto in 2016 to focus on his music. His style deep/melodic music is a perfect compliment to the catalog of FTP and a welcome addition to their family.

Reminiscence EP has a smooth undertone and also features a collaboration with Nicolas Pera in which they enter a more eclectic soundscape that brings a beautiful ending to this release.
