I wanted this mix to feel like a long dream, weaving through trippy, nostalgic rave grooves new and old. It's heavily inspired by my recent set at @visauralnyc, a new nonprofit audio-visual immersion space in BK where things can be a bit more *experimental* than a dancey dancefloor environment(an awesome spot for your next event/performance/amazing idea!? Somersault 240 (Maya Lunte) “Wandering Around The Floor”

My first DJ experiences were as a radio DJ on my college radio station back in 2007 - 2011, when my music taste ranged from more indie sounds, to HypeMachine remixes, to some of my earlier forays into dance music. Lately I've been trying to dig back deeper into my library and connect the dots between various influences. 

For this mix that first aired on 9/25 for @KEXP's 'Midnight In a Perfect World' radio series, I tried embrace the radio format to mix some sounds from disparate eras of my musical progression, and to reminisce about my early days as a radio DJ.

This is a wild, unapologetic, barnstorming ride recorded between 1:00-4:00 on a throbbing dancefloor during the first leg of Nowadays Nonstop on the night of Jan 20. This was a romp of delivering my intentions passionately and precisely, playing many of my favorites, and operating at my very best across genres, traveling through a tunnel of engulfing psychedelic darkness, bass weight, shifting tempos, and beat structures into celebratory light. 

As an artist/DJ, these are some of the moments one lives for. It’s certainly something I’ve dreamed about for years. The opportunity to play in one of the rave’s hallowed halls - one of the most esteemed clubs and my own very favorite - was a dream come true and has been a quiet moment of apotheosis and vindication of years of dedicated, focused work. 

There are many nods and treats in this set: tracks shown to me by friends, absolute hypnotizing favorites and gems I’ve held onto, the voice of my true love, and (for those following my lore closely) the magic of opening with Phil Elverum’s work. Tracklist below:
