"good" byes EP

"bargaining" is an electronic 80’s style R&B ballad named after the third stage of grief. "bargaining" is one of 6 songs on the “good” byes EP which was written, produced, and recorded by Ikwe in her home studio. The track will be released on August 30th along with an experimental music video. Each song on the EP has a unique video, and will be released individually over a period of 6 weeks. In October the ‘“good” byes’ EP will be released and celebrated with a virtual party.

"messin’ around" is a sensual Electronic R&B song that begins with an acoustic guitar solo in the first verse, intensifies a rap verse and climaxes with a choral outtro.  It is the 3rd of 6 tracks on Ikwe’s self produced and recorded “good” byes EP, set to be released as a single on Sept. 13th. Each will be released as singles over a period of 6 weeks, along with experimental music visuals, leading up to the ‘“good” byes’ EP release on Oct. 11th.

"double infinity" is a retro Hip-Hop song inspired by  “Let’s Ride” by Notorious B.I.G. ft Bone Thugs N’ Harmony. Opposite of the 1997 lyrics “let’s ride and get high,” Double Infinity comments on the lingering effects of the war on drugs in communities of color today. Set to be released on Sept. 20th, it is the 4th of 6 tracks on Ikwe’s self produced EP “good” byes. Each will be released as singles over a period of 6 weeks leading up to the ‘“good” byes’ EP will be released on Oct. 11th.

"the fight" is the only live band track on Ikwe’s “good” byes EP. This folk soul song about a tumultuous relationship was recorded by musicians in both Brooklyn and St. Paul/Minneapolis MN. Set to be released on Sept. 27th, it is the 5th of 6 tracks on Ikwe’s self produced EP “good” byes. Each will be released as singles over a period of 6 weeks, along with experimental music visuals, leading up to the ‘“good” byes’ EP will be released on Oct. 11th.

"room 4 U" is an upbeat house inspired song and is the final song on Ikwe’s “good” byes EP. After 5 songs about the complexity of letting go, Room 4 U is a celebration of freeing up space to receive experiences. Like the previous 5 singles, Room 4 U was produced in Ikwe’s home studio and has an accompanying music visual. Room 4 U will be released on Oct. 4th, after 6 weeks of singles leading up to the full release of the “good” byes EP on Oct. 11th.

Ikwe (formerly known as Kelsey Pyro) is a Brooklyn based Black and Ojibwe artist from St. Paul / Minneapolis Minnesota. Ikwe is the Ojibwe word for woman. Specializing in Alternative R&B, music production, sound art, and performance art her work often incorporates genres, experiences, and stories from her African American and Native American identity. Ikwe has had the opportunity to perform at venues such as Lincoln Center, The Shed NYC,  Soundset Music Festival, and First Avenue, She is also a recipient of The Shed at Hudson Yards Open Call Artist in Residence program, The Wyckoff House X Lincoln Center Protest Garden artist residency, and the 2018 and 2019 Brooklyn Arts Council Community Arts grant. Her most recent work, “ ‘good’ byes”, an experimental music film created in collaboration with Kino Galbraith, premiered in Oct. 2020 at the Brooklyn Prelude Festival. Her sound can be likened to Kelela, Blood Orange, FKA Twigs, and the Weeknd cerca 2011.
