This is a song I wrote about watching people in a club in the UK before I had friends here. I promise I wasn't being creepy, I was just lonely and I used to go out on my own to try and make friends. When that didn't work, I'd usually sit at tables in rooms full of noise and people to write down my thoughts.

When I wrote the words for this, I was reflecting on how isolated Western culture is. We never seem to fully open up to people and we never seem to feel good enough. This song is my lament for this part of my culture that I detest. (Fun times lol)

Strangers (Lockdown Demo)

This is a song that I wrote about Federica when I thought that I would only harm her by letting myself fall in love with her given the circumstances she was experiencing.

At the same time, as much as I fought, I found myself falling in love. 

This song is about fighting selfishness in love to find out if it's true.

I'm so glad that I was wrong... We're super happy together.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,  but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

Safe (Lockdown Demo)

This is a letter to my sister that I wrote in song format after reading news stories of a nineteen-year-old girl in South Africa who went to the post office and never came home. her body was later found raped and murdered.

I come from a place of constant violence against woman. At University, when I studied the statistics of estimated child rape and abuse victims in my country I wept. At the moment, it is estimated that n SA, a woman is murdered every 3 hours.

The fact that this particular story happened so long after my studies shocked me with the cold, hard truth that the problem is still so prevalent in South Africa and the entire world. 

Stories like Uyinene Mrwetyana's and the protest marches and campaigns it sparked in SA made me fear for my sister and my mother. The fact that millions of women were asking "Am I Next?" made me feel anxious and sick. 

This is a letter I wrote to voice this to my sister and the rest of the world. Enough is freaking enough!

Dear Amy (Temporary) (Lockdown Demo)

This is my bard's lament for a day in the life of this thing called humanity that we're a part of.

It moves in chapters that intersect and overlap, even though each verse is about the struggle that a separate character is going through on the particular day in question.

It's a cry out to humanity to embrace love instead of beating it to death with our crass selfishness and individualism.

As Christopher McCandless said in his diary before his tragic death: "Happiness only real when shared".
