Etien Slavchev is an experimental electronic music producer based in Sofia, Bulgaria. 
Mainly known for his intense, beat-driven post-club sound, found on releases for Opal Tapes, Yerevan Tapes and Noorden among others, Evitceles debuted on Shimmering Moods in 2020 with an immersive collection of atmospheric pieces (shimmeringmoodsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/somnambulant-fog) 

Even in his most aggressive and complex works, Bulgarian producer Etien Slavchev has always managed to find a place for transparent and moody ambient layers, giving his music an overwhelming sense of nostalgia and melancholy.

A manifold of hypnagogic frames balancing wind, wave and star. Symmetric pearl timbres touch the seams of the three-dimensional world. 

Volcanic sound transcending its temporal limits, only to be found at the rim of the pyramid. As the wheel turns the balance is attached to the crescentic stone and snow-covered ridges. Sustained pitches acknowledge the spectral phenomena carved in chroma rooms. The mesa of the moon drains diffused energy as pastoral currents break the ocean’s vector.

Tapes and Topographies is US based artist Todd Gautreau, who has had music releases on labels such as Past Inside the Present, Dronarivm, Shimmering Moods and his own imprint, Simulacra. His project has been active since 2014 following his previous alias Tear Ceremony and he also produces a downtempo as Sonogram.

With each new album, Todd follows a different workflow to achieve new details and results in his sound. Increasingly, his work has been aided by the use of hardware and outboard effects.
In his latest album Amplitudes, he has taken a set of sounds and fed these through a looper, experimenting with altered loop speeds. He used FM synthesis for the first time in this body of work, alongside some of his tried and tested methods, joined by field recordings.

These nine compositions clock in at almost 50 minutes; a compelling listen through dreamy, organic textures. Todd has created a lot of music in the last 18 months and Amplitudes is the latest in his continuous process of distilling his sounds and ideas down to their essence.
The album’s artwork is a macro-photograph of a stone, as the fine details are ‘amplified’ by the magnification effect of the camera’s lens. There is not a clear concept but inspiration is drawn from film and literature, as well as self-reflection, memory, loss and dreams. As these compositions play out, you’ll find yourself concentrating on fine details, whilst at other times, in a blissful state, zooming out to absorb the bigger picture.

Lawrence English is one of those sound recordists, manipulators and archivists that seems to extract living vibrations in the form of discreet little moments, plucking them seamlessly out of thin air. Whether it's from the city sounds of a unique community (see Approaching Nothing), the weather rumblings of a fierce and howling wind (see Viento) or the mechanical action of the pressurised air of the pipe organs (see Observation of Breath), this Australian artist, composer, and owner of the revered Room40 imprint has always excited these ears and taken this mind on a journey beyond. On this track, which is somewhat malevolently titled, "Outside The City Of God (Augustine wept)", we hear more of that sonically rich pipe organ sound, layered with intricate textures as familiar as they are alien, which even after its four long-playing minutes begs to go one for another sixteen. This piece is his contribution to Remo Seeland's "concept-compilation" released on his very own Lucerne-based (Switzerland) Hallow Ground label, titled EPIPHANIES, on which 16 composers come together to pursue a "non-rational creative process in approaching the phenomenon of epiphany through sound." Among Lawrence English, there are pieces from FUJI||||||||||TA, Norman Westberg, Maria W Horn and Siavash Amini, who all have previously released on the imprint. "All of these compositions thus draw on the unique emotional powers of certain acoustic instruments, obfuscating the borders between physicality and abstraction as much as those between time and space." The results beautifully encapsulates the concept behind this label, "challenging not only conventional notions of what music is supposed to sound like but also the listeners' perception through the power of sound." A decadent collection of aural delights.

You made it. You escaped the catacombs made up of your own dead bodies. Hip hip hooray.

You walk out the exit and feel a wave of burning hot air hit your face and deal one damage. The grass is dead, the trees are dead too, weeds coat every surface, it's dryness sucks the moisture from your skin, and surrounding this acre of land are insurmountable cliffs crawling with giant spidery abominations with wings and singers. Climbing that is certain death, you're forced to traverse through the land and enter some caves to progress, in hopes of uncovering a more hospitable resting place. 

Settlements are small, but plentiful, peppered upon on the towering rocks and the weeds and the misshapen scaffolding that could collapse if you death stared at them hard enough. The people aren't as demented as the settlers in the dungeons, but they're hardened from years of living in this dry crater, from the ventures into caves for supplies and water, and from eating the abominations and giant spiders for food.

Maybe other places are better than this.
