Exclusive: Omar Joesoef - Chants Of Gorontalo (Cosmo Vitelli What Was The Question Again Remix)

Hard Fist's next release explores the chants and rituals of one of the world's last tribes living or holding on to ancient occurrences. Therefore Indonasian artist Omar Joesoef digged deep into the archieves of abandoned radio station on Java island to come up with samples of old recordings of the tribe. Unsurprisingly Joesoef names the EP's opening track, Chants of Gorontalo, after an Indonesian province on Sulawesi island, where the Dayak tribes lives and practices the ancient and traditional way of living. Aside from three more orginal tracks, namely Morning World, It's the Heat in the Room and a digital bonus track, Joesoef's Rituals of Gorontalo EP is provided with two remixes. While Jonathan Kusumu reworks It's the Heat in the Room, French hyper-spacey artist Cosmo Vitelli takes on remix duties for Chants of Gorontalo and turns it into a futuristic out of space tune that's implementation of racecar sounds, space-filling soundscapes whirl around and stir up elements from the original. However, it's the pads and synth-sequences in the second part of the eight minute lasting journey that serves as a counterpart to the spiritual didgeridoo-like sounds that accompany the listener from start to the very end.

He broke through in 1994, winning one of the hardest Giro climbs with an incredible time record; the Passo del Mortirolo. He eventually became second in the final rankings of this legendary tour of Italy.

The release will be out on the 4th of May, kicking off the 108th edition of La Corsa Rosa. Every copy comes in a limited edition sleeve with a rare original Merlin collector’s sticker of the 78th Giro from ’95.

British producer and label affiliate Radondo makes a striking debut on Wrong Era with his EP, 'Deluge'. His unique blend of influences, drawn from his time in the German Capital and inspirations within Italo Disco, creates a musical landscape that is both familiar and refreshing.

'Deluge' opens with the commanding 'Virtue,' a muscular track that propels listeners into an exhilarating peak-time setting. The persistent kick and guttural bassline launch the arrangement into an arp-led enigmatic journey. Metallic synth lines dance off each other amidst the anchoring instrumentation. A breakdown with Giallo atmosphere close at hand rises to blistering hi-hats and harmonious percussion scattering across the mix. 

As the dust settles, the second track, 'Centrale', picks up the pace and tows the line. A homage to the golden days of Synth-Wave and Italo Disco, 'Centrale' paints a dynamic and introspective picture filled with solid instrumentation and mystical melodics. A familiar arpeggiated tone whips back and forth whilst a rhythmic synth vocal phrase cries out. Building on the release of the central theme, an unmistakably Oberheim-led hook, characterized by its rich warmth, is beautifully complimented by the bassline. Radondo furthers his compositional flair, broadening the range and deepening the feelings. 

The title track, 'Deluge', is a swooning nod to the darker edges of New Wave. It features the basslines and vocals of the poetic powerhouse Neu-Romancer. Sweeping in with driving percussion and drunken pads, we are immersed in a dimly lit, smoky realm. This poignant track has Radondo debuting a piece with vocal focus . As rimshots tunefully click above tight drums, Neu-Romancer's bass rolls beneath, culminating in an arcane call and response between the lyrics and the machines. 

'Deluge' concludes with 'Overflow,' a track that pulses through a storming low-end dripping in gloom. A noise-led melody that descends tonally lifts the adrenal energy throughout. The cooling breaths that punctuate each section leave space for 'Overflow' to set a captivating tone, immersing the listener in the overall atmospheric experience of the EP. 'Deluge' is a testament to Radondo's innate ability to create a musical journey that captivates and enthrals.

The Cemetery of Unsigned House Tracks
Clocking at 9 minutes, don’t get fooled by the track’s tongue-in-cheek title, we’re dealing here with a seriously epic tune. Set in an endlessly rising motion, the track begins with a refined but twisted vibe, sparse but ominous guitars and plenty of FX. Gradually, an infectious synth arpeggio rises and carries with it the whole track, some sort of hypnotic and sensual monster, utterly irresistible on the dancefloor.

El Si Señor (Skinny version)
If you think this track is just a tool, then you’re only getting half of the picture. Skinny but chock-full of melodic and percussive content with a plodding rhythmic section moving at around 105 BPM. This is a downtempo track where heartfelt melodies, sound effects, and pristine seamless arrangements are used with great results by Cosmo Vitelli.

When Suddenly : Acid
With Cosmo Vitelli’s trademark style being eclectism, it’s pointless to pin down this track to a specific genre. Borrowing from the kind of disco not disco and acid-without-303 vibes that I’m a Cliché is famous for, this is an instantly gratifying tune where synthesizers are engaged in call and response melodies in an elegant take on the idea of machine funk. The result is catchy, refreshing and primed for the dancefloor.

El Si Señor (Soundtrack Version)
With melodies that are more expansive and at the fore, leaving the rhythmic section discernible but clearly in the background, this version of El Si Senor is a reference to 70s film music, and this bittersweet tune closes the EP in style.
