Hello there, 

Hereby presenting the 8th installament of Dee Dee’s Picks on Fade Radio. This month’s broadcast serves as an hommage to Der Kern bar, a bar situated on the Langestrasse in Zurich. This bar is particuarly significant to me as it was the starting point for many of my endeavours with Dee Dee's Picks in the Swiss German part. A venue, where laughs were shared, passion for records were enthused and bottomless beer glasses were consumed, is where I met many people that eventually got released or featured as a guest on my radio shows. Der Kern bar holds a special place in my heart, as I am sure to many others. Therefore the selection behind this mix revolves around the many records that we have played throughout the many evenings at Der Kern. A personal "best of" selecta, if you will.

Taking over behind the decks for this month's broadcast could not be fitted more adequatly with Fabian Stacoff aka Max Bunt. Fabian has been the face not only responsible behind the genesis of Der Kern logo, but also the preacher of obscure records that served as the soundtrack of many evenings through his residency at Der Kern. Dee Dee's Picks presents: Farewell Der Kern with Max Bunt (15.05.24)

Anatolian Weapons has always brought intriguing influence to techno. His exploration of rhythm and texture is central to what he does and once more here he takes us on a winding journey through slow down techno and mind altering synths. There is a new age charm to the synths of 'Desert Sun' while the drums chug below. 'The Desert Track II' is a snaking techno sound with creepy sci-fi melodies and twitchy pads off in the distance and 'Ivan's Track' keeps it celestial with more otherworldly melodies and rugged mid tempo drums. Two further unhurried sounds make a great mix of airy melody and metallic drum forms.

Premiere | Anatolian Weapons - The Desert Track II [Third World]

https://soundcloud.com/konsistent: This mix turned out to be pretty eclectic, as with all of my mixes. I tend to not care about the genres so much, but instead focus on creating a flow or a story with the music. This time I wanted to focus on synthier stuff with twists of kraut, psychedelic, and world popping up here and there but also music from friends and labels I represent. The mix was recorded using only vinyl records from my collection with very few edits, so it has a very live feel to it. While recording it I was imagining a warm summer evening somewhere by the water surrounded by curious and smiling faces.

KonsIstent is a synth lover, gear nerd, producer, and record collector hailing from Vilnius and residing in Copenhagen for the past 18 years. His music appeared on a wide range of labels like Macadam Mambo, Eine Welt, Space Ritual, Elsewhere, Brokntoys/Endless Illusion, and LIO Press. As a record digger and selector, he explores the leftfield sounds from the last half-century. Kons has also been involved in organizing electronic music events in the past while being part of Untitled Tricks and Club Juma crews. Nowadays, he is a household selector for Noisy Beehive, an independent collective and label, focusing on organizing quality concerts all over Copenhagen. Sometimes you can catch Kons playing live with his gear if you're lucky. In that case, you're up for some hypnotic live performance, that goes deeper and more complex every time with the introduction of new instruments and fresh sounds. His productions somehow merge together different and distant aspects of the sound he is inspired by. Having a special passion for 80s wave music and Krautrock, he reaches unforeseeable freedom of experimentation in his live performances. It is music that slowly engulfs the listener’s full attention, syncing it completely with those spellbounding rhythms.

For the 71st installment in our Just For The Night series, selectors take you on their own journey through groove. Anything goes.

Next up, welcome Sneaker DJ 👋 

His musical upbringing started out in the Detroit and Chicago space, before further influences like obscure Italo, new wave and minimal synth gems. He's based out of his part-time-hometowns Berlin and Dresden, where he operates the TailOut mastering studios with long-time collaborator Jacob Korn. We were first introduced to him via his impeccable edits on Deep Cover #8. In his own words:

"The mix was recorded for the Needsome radio show and was aired only once on Radio Dreyeckland, Freiburg/Germany.

The session is showcasing curation and craftsmanship that was developed on the fly without sync buttons or a defined order. The selection follows a pattern of progressive music - the majority from the 90s, from Detroit and all Western Europe. A vivid mental image of what Sneaker would have envisioned as the retro trend for 2024 unlike all that generic, shallow trance and gabba.

I had and even to this day have the feeling that my fellows in the radio studio didn't realise what they were witnessing. Despite my usual uncommon selections from a background of 30 years of digging, I played the obvious - even classics (you'll be surprised). These are - nevertheless -  unknown to the unknown.

I blended these tunes with dirty friction - cause I dare to play 3 decks. Harmonic mixing - cause I am not deaf unlike most DJs. If you are a selector (LOL) jerking off on your rotary - let me tell you straight to your face: you are lacking skilltalentandinspiration to add MUSICALITY. Cause yours is no art ... cause it lacks artistry!"
