Sunday Sessions 11th April '21

Black Light Disco boards the Samosa Funk Train to the myhouseradio.fm airwaves again as we welcome monthly residents Les Inferno and De Gama back to BLD Towers for another 5-star musical extravaganza.

This being Volume 12 of Samosa Funk means we’ve reached a milestone - it’s 12 months of being amazed, delighted and wowed by these Italian Maestros of the funk and disco scene. So happy anniversary Samosa Funk, where have those 12 months gone? 

So what did the boys have for us this month? Settle down and we’ll tell you! 

Appearing through the BLD magic curtain first is Les Inferno with an hour of carefully curated hot funky joints straight out of the oven. Expect classic grooves from Cameo, Kool & The Gang, George Duke, Harvey Mason, Panache plus many more. This set is literally seeping with knowledge and expertise from a man who knows no boundaries or limits. 

For the second hour, De Gama magically materialises before our eyes with an absolute knock-out punch to the boogie bone. What he has in store is a whirlwind of old, new and upcoming tracks on the likes of Tropical Disco and, of course Samosa Records and Daje Funk. No quarter will be asked and none will be given. This is De Gama at his blinding best - you can be sure about that!

Samosa Funk Vol. 12 feat Les Inferno & De Gama

The Black Light Disco Show depth charges into the swimming pool on myhouseradio.fm wearing its super tight speedos and ready for another go on the water flume.

Hosting the show live from the sun terrace at BLD Towers we have Esteban aka Ste Hendry, who is slapping on the Factor Funk ahead of treating us to another eclectic set packed full of sunshine grooves and tropical breezes. 

Joining us tonight we have a very, very special guest to take on the mantle for the second hour - the one and only Fran Deeper! Hailing from the sunshine island of Mallorca, Spain, Fran is the Head Honcho of the huge Spa In Disco and Boîte Records labels. 

Fran Deeper is without a doubt one of the most influential dudes on the Disco / Nu-Disco scene. His extensive music experience and unique style has seen him play in some of the most prestigious DJ booths all over the world from Madrid to Mexico City, Ibiza to Tulum, London, San Francisco, Marseille, Jakarta, Barcelona, Milan, Stockholm or Bali, to name a few. This guy is a DJ who feels most at home playing to the crowds on the dance floor, and we cannot wait for you to hear what he has in store for his BLD debut. This weeks Spin City Show that aired on myhouseradio.fm on the 25th April 2021 saw me on hosting duties for the first hour of the show, before handing over to the incredible Derrick McKenzie.

1st Birthday - Feel Good Friday Radio Show

Dunno why, but I really enjoyed recording this episode. I was a bit ill for a few days before, but these tunes got me back up on my feet and jumping about like a loon again - just the medicine I needed! Bit of everything as is customary, taking in two of my most recent experiments, a few reworks from people who are much better at reworking things than me, some raw funk, some hip hop, some worldy weirdness, some acid courtesy of the divine Roisin Murphy, and a few hi energy bangers to finish with. I was joined by a lovely little crowd in the chat, and had lots of fun. 
 
In hour 2 I was really pleased to hand over to Uptown Funk for a brilliant guest mix. I’ve been a big fan of their productions and mixes since I stumbled across them a little while ago, and I’m pleased to have got to know them personally a bit since then too. Uptown Funk are two DJs, Antonio ‘Poco’ Alexis and Sam Hall from Huddersfield, with a real ear for an infectious groove. In a short time they’ve released music on some great labels like Rare Wiri, Discoweey, And Friends, and who could forget their amazing Yendo Loco EP on Super Spicy. Hailing from Scotland, Goz has been DJ’ing for over 25 years and in that time has embraced a number of genres from house, hip hop and soul to disco and funk. In the early 1990s he was introduced to the art of mixing vinyl records and from that point forwards, Goz immersed himself in the art of beat matching and building sets - crafting his unique style throughout the 1990s where he would play local parties and get-togethers and, of course  - the all-important pre and post-night out shenanigans.  

After taking a break from DJ’ing in the early 2000s, Goz picked up the reins once again in 2014 and got back to doing what he loves most. Goz has always had an exceptionally diverse taste in music, although he naturally gravitated towards disco, soul, funk and hip-hop genres. 

Goz’s passion for music shines through in his sets, which are carefully curated and crafted to take you on a journey that always leaves you craving more. As one of the most renowned specialists in slow-mo and laid back grooves, when Goz decides to drop down the gears he creates a ‘soundscape’ experience few DJs on the scene can achieve. Similarly, when the disco juices are flowing, and the BPM is cranked up it’s a roller coaster ride and swirling haze of funky basslines, heavenly string arrangements, Afro beats and soulful smokiness. 

As host / show runner of the hugely successful Spin City which airs on New York’s number one House Music Station, www.myhouseradio.fm for a number of years now, Goz has built an extensive and strong follower base who regularly tune in to the two hour show which airs every Sunday at 7pm GMT (2pm NYC). The format of Spin City is a certified winner - with Goz normally presenting the first hour of the show followed by a special guest mix each week. On occasion, Goz will take the whole two hours to treat listeners to prime selections of new, old and classic tracks.  Some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene have appeared on the show, which has also secured talents such as John Le Visiteur, IMFROMULL, DJ Wahine and Queen & Disco for bi-monthly and quarterly residency spots. Goz also has a keen eye for up-and-coming DJs and producers - spotting undiscovered talent early and giving them a platform to showcase their skills.

During the summer of 2019, Goz teamed up with a group of like-minded DJs and producers to form a new promotion - Black Light Disco. The first Black Light Disco event in June 2019 was an enormous success and has gone on to land its own radio show which also airs on MyHouse Radio FM every Monday from 7pm - 9pm GMT (2pm - 4pm NYC). Since the show started in January 2020, its reputation has grown considerably and BLD now attracts some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene for guest spots. In May 2020, Black Light Disco formed a partnership with the excellent Samosa Records and Daje Funk Records to present a monthly residency on the MyHouse Radio platform, with label head honchos Les Inferno and De Gama taking over the show for the whole two hours. Airing on the second Monday of each month, The Samosa Funk show is already taking the disco world by storm -the partnership with BLD really taking things to the next level for the promotion. Going forward, Black Light Disco has a number of live events planned, so watch this space for the most up-to-date news on where one of Black Light Disco’s now famous nights will drop next!
