DNB Girls Podcast #37 - Juicy Junglist

In the week leading up to this LLL session I had gone back to listen to some of my recent recordings. I decided I wanted to change up the formula I'd been following, which recently has involved a ton of minimal tech. I do love playing that stuff, but this week I opted for a more analog sort of "classic" approach to the liquid sound. More of a "summer sound". Lots of deep, jazzy rollers, chunky drums, rhodes keys. Some ragga vocals, some jungle, some atmospheric rollers. It's all in the mix. Tons of fun with the LLL crew in the chat this week.

Liquid Lovers Lounge (EP68|AUG13|2022)

This was a fun Twitch sesh with the LLL chat crew. My boy @metapattern raided in early on after his epic first stream from his newly set up home studio. I eased into things with some deep and melodic jazzy lead-in tunes before moving on to some energetic and rolling feelgood fare. Dipped down to a darker vibe for some machine soul at the end of the first hour. Brought the energy up in the 2nd hour for a bit of a rolling  tech party vibe before dropping back down into soulful territory at the end. Overall I was pleased with the arc of the set; might have flubbed a couple of mixes where the energy didn't quite match from track to track, but perhaps I'm being too self-critical(as always). I really enjoyed my time on the stream. Big up to the homies coming thru with all the bits and channel subs. Your continued support def keeps me engaged. This session was cathartic for me personally. Been working long days and have had less time to  keep up with new releases but I snagged some tunes on Saturday and had some cool different stuff to play. Started off lush, deep and running into some wobbly bassline rollers and  synth heavy type stuff that I don't usually play that much. Some techy stuff and some jungle in the second hour ending into some uplifting rollers. Awesome vibe in the chat again. Fun Saturday session.

Lab Sessions Live Alongside Impression - 7 - 16 - 2023

While working this last week I had a continuous playlist on YouTube automatically select the first couple LTJ Bukem's Progression Session mixes. Listening to those mixes again (after a really long time) totally brought me back to that mid to late 90s period when atmospheric (or "intelligent drum & bass" as it was known back then) was really cutting edge stuff. I have such fond memories of that period of time — going record shopping and playing my first big boy raves... Anyway, long story short, that spell of nostalgia made me go digging through my Rekordbox collection for suitable tunes to try to recreate that heady, spacey, blissful vibe on the stream this week, albeit with as current as possible tunes.

A large section of the first hour is all classic sounding atmospheric with that chunky drum programming. Some jazzy and funk-influenced bits thrown in there too... From there it moves into hour two with some drumfunk roller energy before slipping into "endless summer" liquid vibes featuring a nice section of classic amen rollers; some old, some new. I kept playing a bit longer again this week, since my boy Dough who usually follows me was still out of commission. Ended with some of my favorite deep soulful cuts. I had lots of fun playing this week. Big shouts to the LLL chat crew for keeping it lively!

Liquid Lovers Lounge (EP109|JULY29|2023)

Impression is a DJ and producer currently residing in Saint Augustine, Florida. In the last few years, since the pandemic, he has truly found his sound within the realm of smooth, vibey, rhythmic Drum & Bass. He recently has released tunes on several prominent labels such as FX909, Soul Deep Recordings, Influenza Media, Soul Trader, Liquid Drops, Theoryon Records and Rolled Up Records and has forthcoming tunes on the label Fokuz. On top of that he has recently contributed music to the charity Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism presents: 'USA vs. U.K. A friendly Exhibition', to raise awareness for children and families coping with Autism as well as Beats In Mind: 'Headsbass' a charity raising awareness for mental illness. 
Growing up in South Florida in the peak of the rave wave of the 90's he found himself inspired by this movement and became co-founder of the Y.O.U. crew. He established several residencies over the years and shared the stage with the biggest and greatest names in Drum & Bass. In 2008 he partnered and launched the label 'Urban Chemistry' under the name 'Fusion' and released tracks with DnB greats like Stunna, Submorphics, Command Strange and Mutt just to name a few.
Around this time Impression also started a weekly show on Bassdrive.com called 'Lab Sessions' which has been running deep for almost 15 years. With roots in the culture that span from Florida to all parts of the globe he has truly curated his sound and much like his production, his DJ sets and mixes are sure to deliver deep soulful vibes with funky progression and smooth, intricate blends. A crowd pleaser every time.
