Je suis dans une grosse phase otaku/weeb en ce moment. Je gravite généralement vers les anime, manga et light novels qui ont un style artistique particulier, un univers engouffrant, ou qui dégagent une atmosphère décontenançante. Je lis Dorohedoro en ce moment, allez voir les dessins, c’est magique! Merci à Diego et Erika pour la suggestion!
Sinon, j’ai toujours été fan de cinéma. Je recherche les mêmes caractéristiques que mentionné plus haut. J’aime n’importe quel art qui me procure une sensation qu’on qualifierait d’uncanny en anglais. Quand tu sens le plancher se dérober sous tes pieds en comprenant plus-ou-moins pour quoi. J’aime aussi une touche d’humour subtil et coquin.

Those who know me know that I listen to a lot of different things all the time, and that I don’t tend to re-listen to something that many times, and I have trouble with concision. Some ultra-classics in my heart are The Cure, Deftones, Radiohead, Young Thug, Rosetta, Loma Prieta, Converge and, David Bowie and Angelo Badalamenti. If you want some kind of answer, I would say that the album that has the ultimate vibe is Pornography by The Cure. I was also semi-obsessed with Lovesexy by Prince recently.

Bon, allons-y dans le désordre. Emo, post-punk, ambient de couvertures ou sombre et troublante, old-school indie rock, post-hardcore, trap, grindcore, neocrust, screamo, musique d’anime mignonne, jazz lent et sinistre, shoegaze, dance-punk, goth rock, nu metal, folk triste, etc. etc.

Cette question est un peu difficile pour moi, parce que j’aime garder les sentiments bien ambigus. Cela étant dit, j’aime prendre les gens par surprise avec des changements angulaires, et j’essaie toujours de promouvoir l’expérimentation en live – essayer de nouvelles combinaisons de tracks risquées pour un maximum de propulsion, ou quoique ce soit! Je cherche aussi la contagion énergétique par la danse et le sautillage derrière les decks.

Well, if we’re dreaming, I would say a Pioneer mixer (for maximum fader slamming capability and mad effects), 3 CDJ 2000 Nexus and 2 Technics SL-1200, good monitors not too close to my ears and some space to jump around. I like the place as dark as possible, a little ambient color and some strobe action. Possibly a couple beers.
I would be perfectly fine with 2 CDJs, and maybe a turntable as a treat.

It’s so hard picking just one, since I rarely play the same track more than 2 or 3 times. Maybe Taking First by Henry Greenleaf (sped up a few BPMs) just to see the looks on people’s faces.

Simon is one of those heads who is always finding big new ways to contribute to the scene. Infamous for his high-bpm, quick cuttin' DJ sets, he's also co-founder/resident of the Toulouse-based @moontripasso and co-founder/co-owner for @vaguesrecords.

Quelle forme d'art, autre que la musique, apprécies-tu spécialement ?

Je m'intéresse beaucoup au cinéma et pendant cette dernière année à la maison j’ai pu bien investir le domaine… Mes films préférés étant bien évidemment les deux OSS117. Sinon en fonction de l’humeur je peux regarder de tous les styles même si j’ai quand même un faible pour les scénario inspirés de faits réels. La plus grosse claque récente que j’ai prise étant sur la mini série “When they see us” (“Dans leur regard”) qui raconte (l’histoire vraie) d’une enquête montée de toute pièce accusant délibérement à tort 5 ados noirs d’Harlem pour viol.

Hormis la musique pour danser, vers quels albums, artistes ou styles gravites-tu ?

Depuis l'adolescence, je suis passionné de rap francais. Contrairement à la musique électronique j’écoute très rarement du rap pour "m'ambiancer". Je suis très tourné vers ce qu’on appelle le “rap conscient". Ça peut être du rap avec un engagement politique/social comme on retrouve dans les textes de La Canaille, Medine, Vin’s; ou des textes sombres qui racontent le mal de vivre, comme Furax, Dooz Kawa ou pour moi un des meilleurs niveau écriture, Lucio Bukowski. 

Que tentes-tu de communiquer lorsque tu joues ou produis ta musique ? 

Lorsque j’ai commencé à mixer et que j’ai monté mon asso Moontrip à Toulouse (France), j’ai pris l’habitude de faire les closing des soirées qu’on organisait. En général c’était des sets d’une heure, la dernière heure où on donne tout. Le but étant de clôturer sur un set énervé où tout le monde se déchaîne avant la fin de la soirée (ou le début de l’after). J’aime particulièrement ce genre de set :) 

Décris-nous le DJ booth ou le scénario d'une performance idéale selon toi. 

Une des performances que je rêverai de voir c’est [KRTM] vs Twan en hybrid set !

Notre ami Savino nous envoie son mix tout droit d’Espagne. Il fait partie de collectifs qui font vibrer la scène madrilène comme @possible-others ou encore les  @chineurs-de-madrid , et organise sa propre soirée du monde intitulée @gastemaus . El arte visual combinado con la experimentación sonora me llama mucho la atención y realmente me parecen 2 disciplinas que se complementan a la perfección. De hecho me ha influido mucho el festival LEV de Gijón. Como artistas podría decirte Refik Anadol y Electawu. Por otro lado, y gracias a que estoy experimentándolo ahora, el arte de la agricultura urbana me está haciendo crear una conexión con mis ancestros y además de conectarme de una manera muy pura con nuestra tierra.

¿𝐂𝐮á𝐥 𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐮 á𝐥𝐛𝐮𝐦, 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐨 𝐦ú𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐦ú𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞?
Es muy difícil elegir esto porque suelo escuchar muchos géneros diferentes constantemente.  Pero si tuviera que decidir un sonido que me eriza la piel, te diría que el sonido de música celta (Gwendal, Jhetro Tull...) Es un género que he seguido desde pequeño y que me ha llevado a tocar instrumentos como la flauta travesera. Como artista/álbum me quedo con uno de los preferidos de mi colección: Djrum - Portrait With Firewood.

Vivimos en un mundo saturado de estímulos, de estrés…en el que muchas veces nos olvidamos del valor de las cosas, de dónde venimos y hacia dónde vamos. A través de la música se pueden estimular sensaciones que tenemos aletargadas, que pueden influir positivamente en nuestra manera de afrontar la vida. Siempre que toco intento transmitir algo a la gente que tengo delante. Al final es eso de lo que se trata, pero siempre intento ir más allá para intentar transmitir un viaje musical que vaya más allá de los géneros y el tiempo.

Si tuviera la oportunidad de hacer una sesión de más de 3h, que es lo que considero para hacer un verdadero viaje, 2 Technics, 3 cdjs y una Formula Sound. Empecé a practicar las mezclas a 3 canales desde hace 3 años y creo que podría llegar a considerarse un pseudo live ya que estás constantemente cogiendo elementos independientes que te interesan a través de las diferentes frecuencias que te permite aislar un mixer.

Por suerte ya he podido tocar varias veces en época post pandémica y justo el sábado pasado puse el Special Request - Wallabies y la pista se vino abajo. Es una puta locura de track que tiene una energía brutal, en el que puedes distinguir 2 partes perfectamente diferenciadas que sin duda te van a hacer sudar en la pista.

What art form(s) do you enjoy aside from music?
D: I enjoy all kinds of art (film, painting, literature, survival etc) but in terms of practice my other main modes of expression are writing, speaking, cartomancy (the Tarot of Marseilles, specifically) and astrology.

What’s your favourite album, artist, or music to listen to that isn’t dance music?
D: All music is dance music - imo - it's just a matter of 'how' or 'if' one dances to it.
This year the albums Anything Can’t Happen by Dorothea Paas and the forthcoming Highs In The Minuses by Charlotte Cornfield are some of my absolute favourite listens.

Is there anything in particular that you try to communicate to your audience through your music and/or performances?
D: I’m usually trying to tell a specific story for each setting and audience I play for. I try to use a wide palette of styles and textures to tell rich stories so I may (hopefully) reach more/different sorts of people. I think, for me, perfect dance floor moments only ever occur through chance and live improvisation; by remaining open to any kind of influence or possibility at any time. And, of course, by playing The Hits - in new contexts.

Describe your perfect DJ booth (or other performance set up), in terms of both the gear and the environment.
D: Toronto’s Best in Town sound system in a field under the moon, stars and morning light.

What track are you most excited to play in your first post-corona live gig?
D: Not sure I know when or what post-corona is but right now it’s a tie between Forbidden Fruit by DJ Pacifier and La Macarena.

Membre fondateur du collectif Kizi Garden, Waner a publié un album en décembre 2020 intitulé 2020 Never Existed. Après ce mix-ci, écoutez notre track coup de coeur, Miss Trance 2021.
L'été est encore loin, mais Waner se charge de nous remonter le morale avec quelques morceaux de deep, soulful house, et de lofi envoûtante.

This might sound over heard but what I do and try to communicate is to just enjoy what you do and not to overthink it or stress too much about it, this will lead to a happier life. Who doesn’t want to have fun, to escape one’s day to day? 

Describe your perfect DJ booth (or other performance set up), in terms of both the gear and the environment.

In my utopia, I would say it doesn’t matter the gear or the location, as long as both aren’t unplayable. That being said, the perfect DJ booth is surrounded by dancers/music lovers. The perfect gear is a gear that allows you to do your set without technical complications, other than that I think DJs need to be able to play on almost anything.

All the tracks of our [recently released] Kizi 404 vinyl.

A nomadic spirit tracing her ancestry in the frozen Arctic and mountains of Translyvlania,  Claire is one of the most globe-trotting artists Montreal's electronic scene has to offer. In fact, she just recently concluded a wide-ranging summer tour schedule that included musical jaunts in Switzerland, Germany, British Columbia, and the Honduran Bay Islands. From Piknic Electronik to the Techno Parade, and from MUTEK to Club Der Visionaere, Claire’s music is shaking up dancefloors all over the world. 

With several EPs on vinyl and has released on labels Conceptual, Monoclap, Archipel and more. A bit of a gear junkie, Claire has a small but mighty arsenal of synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, and drum machines. Something just flows when those machines come alive and for 2022, she is shifting her focus to live performance. She's also been hard at work preparing to launch her own label, Planète Secrète. Stay tuned!

This week, we offer you a delightful voyage into some of the grooviest corners of electronic music, courtesy of the one and only @la_dolc_evita !

CIRCLECAST is a series of recordings from friends, artists, DJs, and performers from our surrounding community, intended to inspire connection and memories for the raves that we were able to host and attend regularly before this year. Our plan is to have a mix series, guest interviews, livestreams, and more.  

Like our live events, which seek to represent the diversity happening in today's underground dance music, our mix series is separated by the names of the events we would host pre-covid, with different genres and styles represented in each one. This mix falls under Spirale, our more housey/groovy offering.

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞 𝐝'𝐚𝐫𝐭, 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐥𝐚 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞, 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞́𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝐭𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐞́𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 ?
	
Je suis particulièrement sensible aux arts visuels que ce soit la peinture, la photographie, les collages ou bien l’esthétique graphique d’une affiche de concert ou d’une pochette de disque.  
Je visualise d’ailleurs très souvent mes tracks et associe souvent certaines consonances musicales à des formes ou à des couleurs. 

𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗮 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗯𝘂𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀-𝘁𝘂 ?

Hormis la musique pour danser ? Difficile… Je danse littéralement sur tout type de musique et je ne différencie pas vraiment la musique sur laquelle je danse de celle que j’écoute ;) 
Les frontières sont devenues d’autant plus floues depuis que je ne sors plus danser en soirée. En ce moment je peux très bien apprécier une grosse track d’électro bien énervée assise confortablement dans mon salon autant que je peux me déhancher dans tous les sens sur du Beethov.

𝐐𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬-𝐭𝐮 𝐝𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐮 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐚 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 ?

Je suis toujours remplie d’un fort sentiment d’adrénaline et de joie lorsque je joue devant un public. Je crois que j’essaie de partager cette excitation et cherche à communiquer des émotions fortes, du plaisir, de l’euphorie, avec cette idée d’emmener les danseurs dans un univers parallèle. 

𝗗é𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀-𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗝 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗰é𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗱'𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗱é𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗶.

Je suis sensible à l’esthétique visuelle des dj booths, sachant que c’est ce qu’on passe notre soirée à fixer en tant que danseur! J’aime lorsqu’il y a un certain effort de scénographie (de par l’éclairage ou de détails un peu loufoques). Ma vision d’une performance idéale se déroulerait dans une ambiance intimiste, immersive et déjantée. Pour moi la magie d’une soirée ne se situe pas seulement dans la qualité musicale mais aussi dans la mise en scène de l’espace avec l’idée qu’en arrivant, on ait le sentiment de mettre les pieds sur une autre planète. 
Il serait peut-être intéressant de revisiter le format classique du public qui fait face au dj booth (qui se trouve en avant). J’adorerais jouer dans un espace ou le dj booth est en plein milieu et pourquoi pas même carrément en arrière, dos au public, histoire de casser les repères traditionnels et d’observer ce qu’il se passe sur le dancefloor.

Dur de choisir... Je vais y aller pour un gros classique : Enjoy the silence de Depeche Mode, remixé par Ewan Paerson. Euphorisant à souhait, j’ai hâte!
