Last spotted selling elephants on eBay, Bebetta bites into 2018 with yet another genuinely unique concept: ‘Megalon / Hedorah’, two tracks dedicated to beasts defeated by Godzilla’s famous fierce wrath.

The vibes are as strong as the concept: ‘Megalon’ is an electrifying slice of drama that rolls and thunders with the weight and tension you’d expect from a 50 metre high drill-handed beetle humanoid. Its weapons come into action midway as we’re suddenly jolted into wokeness via a crisp, nerve-singeing breakdown that’s strong enough to KO a whole fleet of Godzillas.

‘Hedorah’ also lives up to its muddy, slimy gaseous pollutant namesake. A beast of two halves; the first three minutes of rolling percussive grooves don’t give any hint to the noxious euphoria that’s about to breakout midway. Powerful, highly strung in contrast and fittingly cinematic, over the course of eight minutes Bebetta has us in the palm of her hand and could crush us like a kaiju.

If that’s not quite enough, Uppercent gets involved in the skyscraper-top ruckus with his own take on ‘Hedorah’. Much more stripped back and peppered with theatrical one-note bass drones and shimmering pianos, if the original soundtracks the beast’s fight, this scores its gradual evaporation; emotional, raw and a perfect way to conclude this stunning one-of-a-kinda EP. You really don’t get much betta than this …

With a similar modus operandi, 'Serpent' glides through bright arpeggios, snowballing towards the brilliant climax. A journey through time and space, into the Afterlife.

The idea for Fine Day was to use a sample from this 1983 record 'Jane - It's A Fine Day' and combine it with new elements to create a fresh production. When I heard Don was enthusiastic about the track, it felt like my birthday and Christmas fell on the same day! Releasing 'Fine Day' on Hexagon getting support from Don means a lot to me. Now, spread your arms, breathe in and have a 'Fine Day!

Exclusive Impérieux 'Inat'

Something's bubbling up on Sum Over Histories' stove. Known for its carefully chosen musical pieces, Frankey & Sandrino's label kicks off 2019 with Impérieux's two tracker 'Mehmed' - an artist and crowd favourite over recent weeks and months. 

The EP's title track, 'Mehmed', precisely depicts Alper's - Impérieux's real name – next stage as a producer. Skilfully elaborated soundscapes meet whizzing percussions that remain in the background and allow the dusky chords to create a sentimental ride through different emotional states. Neatly addressing one's mind, the track consciously plays with the extremes of light and dark in a continuous and alternating manner without giving in to either one of them. 

The Turkish and Bulgarian word for stubborn, 'Inat', marks the name of Impérieux's second track of the EP. The initially introduced vocal-snippets allude to this specific mindset. In combination with the pummelled keys, 'Inat' evokes the impression of the artist directly following his imagined musical path. 'Inat' is so clearly arranged and so profound in its use of mental soundscapes that it's impossible to withdraw from it at any point. 

Impérieux not only gives some deep insights into his current state of mind with 'Mehmed' but first and foremost delivers an EP that satisfies a thoughtful dance floor.

Impérieux's EP 'Mehmed' will be released February 8th, 2019 on Sum Over Histories.
