Born in Offenbach +m M+in in 1987, Matthias discovered in an early age his passion for electronic dance music. In 1999 he bought his first turntables and records. In the s+me time he started to contribute actively in producing and experimenting with music and played at various Party - at that time rather private and illegal ones. In 2006 he released his first record "The art of M" on Weave Music, which was a big hit in the underground electronic music scene and played by well known Dj's. It was just a matter of time until he w+s booked regularly on party internationally. His breakthrough came in 2008 when he was invited to play for various parties of the COCOON Brand by Sven Vath, in the same year he also released a track for the compilation of the Imprint. After that he traveled to and played records or live in Italy, Spain, France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Russia South Kore+, Japan to name a few. Since the first production steps he developed his production skills and split his music into various pseudonyms. His most up to date sounds are getting released under the name: CNTRL, POLYFAN POLYPHENIX, BINARY OPERATOR, STAR_DUB, MATT STAR but also works or has worked on limited projects like YAM YAM, STARBUG and some secret projects he doesn't like to mention anymore. As a Label owner he run different projects, too. Matthias describes his musical style as follows: “Everything I like“. He plays everything from Ambient and Trip Hop stuff to House and Techno – everything he likes, depending on the mood. In the clubs he mostly goes ahead in + pretty strict and determined way: "itʼs got to make people dance! it h+s to be groovy!" As passionate music+n he also is in high demand as a remix artist and is always busy creating new interpretations for other artists. In these days Matt focuses more and more on sound design and experiment+l music outside the club context but also stays true to his roots in techno and house of course.

POOLcast 058 - Collab Special - Infinite Monkey Theorem

For our September issue we have another Collaboration Special. Infinite Monkey Theorem is the collaboration of the two POOLcast curators and POOL founding members Marcus Block and Sebastian Mehl, aka ANN and Waldboot aka gnilyf.

Both have been musically connected for more than 10 years, but just at the beginning of 2019 they decided to make music together as Infinite Monkey Theorem and shortly after that they released one of their recordings as POOLcast. Since ever they share their thoughts and ideas, even if these have a different origin, it serves as a foundation for their creative work. The exchange acts as a kind of spiritual liberation and creates a unity of experience, knowledge and curiosity. Differently ripened inspiration, continuous impulses and musical conversations create a creative sphere that allows them to merge the vehemently filigree, inexplicably familiar and truly foreign in audible forms. Like thoughts that arise and immediately vanish again. Ideas that become memories. Searching and finding as a singularity. IMT.

We have some very exciting news to share with you. Greyscale is launching a new series for its label and its named the Exposure Series! We are happy to say that many of these Exposure releases will be released on vinyl as well. To debut this new endeavour we have a four track compilation called "Radiant Energy". Marco Cassanelli is the first artist and his track 'Camden Town' has a pure classic dub techno sound to it. Long delayed chords lull you into a peaceful mid-set trance while the beat is sure to move your body. Sibling's 'Valhalla' rises from the depths with a fantastic bassline and metallic spheres drenched in echo. A heady and busy track that really makes you take notice. On the second side is 'Evolution' by Federsen and it has a more traditional dub approach. The groove is addictive here. Sounds dip and swell in a master class of subliminalism.
