"Revealing the next instalment of select digital bass music incursions, Vienna's Sub Audio Records untethers four heavyweight cuts with the remarkably talented French producer Tinky on the controls. Continuing his supercharged spree of quality releases through the likes of Dubtribu, Instigate and F.T.H. Records as well as the Egregore Collective - the Dubstep ace delivers the goods once again, primed to hit all the right spots on a sound system and Hi-Fi alike. 

Embalmed within a hellish soundscape, 'Digital Soundbwoy' takes us onto an unbridled no-holds-barred sound barrage - infernal distortion mingling with forceful drums, the instrumentation stripped to essentials working at peak efficiency. Abysmal dub sirens top the tape-echo-ridden mammoth off alongside the glitch and anthemic vocal fragments. 'Interphone' proceeds into cavernous depths and unruly off-kilter grooves as hazy foley-samples mingle with rhythmic switch-ups - experimental tendencies unfold. Forceful by nature, 'The Value Of Madness' conjures a superheated sound system barrage, taking the dance by force with militant skanks. Concluding the substantial release with a melodic counterweight alongside Gnischrew, 'Deux' propels us through a vast ambience in a dubbed-out and breaks-infused fashion. Having not really thought about it, it's a bit of a surprise that there are only a handful of records in our digital catalogue that are collaborative projects. FKOFd020 reimagined FKOFd006 with four different remixers, FKOFd030 was four tunes from four artists, we've had one or two collabs or remixes dotted about. But it wasn't until Roklem & Sebalo's FKOFd039 that we properly got a release that ably demonstrated the skills of more than one producer on a record. As it happens, our next digital EP is more of that vibe. Four tracks (and one free download) from two artists from different sides of the planet.

"'FKOFd045' came about in a pretty FatKidOnFire family way. I had been chatting to @11th_Hour as we prepped his solo debut and he recommended a Rottterdam-based artist called @Crowley_nl. Having not come across his tunes before, we got in touch - as it happens, Olaf's based in the RTM so turns out there was common ground. Sven sent some tunes over and a collab with @e_s_p_beats - who's based in Australia - caught my ear. One thing led to another, and here we have our next release. 

"We open with Crowley's 'Stoic', which sets the tone for what follows. Swing, vibe and a whole lot of groove. It launches with atmospheric horns before rolling into a stripped-back stepper affair. Check the second drop for the rowdiness. Next up, we've the aptly-titled 'Luz:Daze Dub'. Think 4am on a summer's morning as the sun starts to rise, or last tune to wrap a proper night at the West Indian Centre. Banger. We then move into the collab tune, 'Rosetta', which takes things down a notch and brings back the grime. This is old/ new school bassweight at its best. One for the subs. As is 'Jah', the final tune on the EP - and e s p's solo effort. Beats, bass and space with much of that groove that really defines this record. If you enjoy these four, you'll likely dig e s p's 'Molotov', which we're giving away to celebrate the EP. Sound system music, as you know we do. Out to Crowley and e s p!

"Shortly after our 130BPM adventure with Big Hands we land firmly back in 140BPM territory. Moosiqunt, born and raised in Vienna, Austria, is a top contender for the deepest, darkest Dubstep producer that has graced planet earth. His early influences draw all the way from Metal to the 09/10 Dubstep era. Nowadays he is mostly influenced by experimental electronic music such as Lorn, Amon Tobin or dark ambient sounds.  

The EP starts off with the title track ‘Refugium’, the track that is closest to Moosiqunt, with the main sample being recorded by the man himself whilst round a friend’s house. This is a perfect opener for the EP, it sets the standard for the Kick & Bass levels and shows you how Moosiqunt manipulates all the sounds he uses to drop you headfirst into a dark and unforgiving setting.  

‘Untitled’ reflects the same setting with mechanical one shots and static sounds, convincing you there is no-one to save you here. The next two collaboration tracks featuring Sedan & Scetta respectively, and flow more like traditional Dubstep tracks...dipped in extra Bass. ‘Coarse’ features one of the biggest basslines on the release, oven-ready for Sound System measures. ‘Dryer’ features more of the same albeit with glitchier percussion and Snare delays tastier than a fresh beer after work on Friday.  

Remix artists Woven Thorns and Stizzla & Eater deliver their own twist on the track ‘Untitled’. Woven Thorns version is a delight to the ears, introducing a Kick far more dynamic than the original. She replaces some of the moodier elements with syncopated hi-hats and pitched down vocals. Stizzla & Eater take note of the original vibe of ‘Untitled’ and times it three-fold. They go one step further with the moodiness of the track and add their own industrial twist with extra distorted sounds and samples.  

Refugium was another EP a long time in the making and this is not the last you will hear of Moosiqunt. Refugium is out 30/10/20 on Junodownload & Spotify with a general release two weeks later. "
