On 7 April 2018, the city of Douma, Syria, was targeted by two chemical weapons attacks. At that time, the city and its surrounding areas had been under siege by the Syrian military since 2013. At least 70 people died in the attacks, according to reports.

Two distinctive yellow canisters, similar to those previously linked to chlorine gas attacks across Syria, were found following the strikes: one on a rooftop balcony near to Al Shuhada square, and the other in a bedroom at an unknown location in the city.

Abu Kishk (Arabic: أبو كشك) was a Palestinian village in the Jaffa Subdistrict located 12 km northeast of Jaffa, situated 2 km northwest of the Yarkon River. The village was depopulated during the 1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine on 30 March 1948 by the Irgun.

Abu Kishk probably fell into Zionist hands some time before the end of the British Mandate on 15 May 1948. Palestinian historian 'Arif al-'Arif indicated that by this time, Zionist forces were in control of the whole coastal area between Haifa and Tel Aviv. Abu Kishk may have been affected by events in the adjacent village of al-Shaykh Muwannis; both villages were located just beyond the borders of Tel Aviv and were targeted for attack early in the war. Israeli historian Benny Morris write that “the final evacuation of the area just north of Tel Aviv was prompted in large measure by IZL (Irgun Zvai Leumi) actions.” An earlier agreement between the villages of al-Shaykh Muwannis and the Haganah to observe a truce in the area did not deter the IZL from striking at the community leaders. The IZL infiltrated into the village at the end of March and kidnapped five of the village leaders. The attack prompted a large flight of people from the surrounding coastal area.

The village site lies in the suburbs of the expanding town of Hertzeliyya.

A fenced-in military hardware manufacturing complex occupies the site and a lare area around it. Cactuses and almond trees grow near and overpass that has been built across the highway that runs through the complex. Outside the fence, on the southeast side of the village site, are the remnants of two houses, one of which had been a private school for the chidren of al-Sawalima.

This year marks the twentieth birthday since Roulette Rekordz's first release.
15 vinyls & 15 digital references. Some good music... and some really weird shit.

For this somewhat special occasion we have label co-founder IKKo with an album written and produced years ago, but eventually the masters were lost and the label went into hibernation mode, throwing this piece of music into oblivion. A chain of events recently led to a couple boxes of records and some cd-r's lying in the corner of a room... not the masters unfortunately but all the demo tracks that were a part of that cancelled release. That's for the little story.

Now for the music... Imagine what Nick Cave would have sounded if he was an unknown middle-aged metal worker disillusioned by life and giving shows in dirty bars the weekend for extras, offering his bitterness at those strong (or sober) enough to stay and listen his half-sung half-spoken french poetry, enhanced by electronic cabaret music or pop-esque electro with funk accents. But don't be fooled, there is no pretty french girl here, this is rather the Gaspar Noé of electro pop. Revealing its darkness from the get-go, the 8 tracks composing this album will transport you into the grim streets and dirty backyards of a grey and brown world where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.

2 remixes are included, Natan Vance (@natanvance) makes a darker version of Le Mur enhanced with flemish lyrics and ending in breakbeat fury while Poladroïd (@poladroid-rr) offers a slower take on the original.

Machine Cult is an electronic music platform hosted by Déandrah and Garçon Taupe. Functions on one side as a record label. On the other, an event series showcasing a part of what the local and international scene the Netherlands has to offer. Edition one is taking place in OT301 (Amsterdam) on the 25th of November.

Scouring from the surfaces of Amsterdam and Rotterdam comes out 6 original tracks composed by the following artists. 

Déandrah (AMS), Garçon Taupe (AMS), marienus (RTM), MoodSwings (AMS), The Spy (AMS) and xceptor (RTM).

In a world where we have too many choices, but not enough guts to pursue any of them, motivational speaking and councillors become the next billionaires, to inject the fearful with confidence so that they may excel at their passion and make the world a better place by self adoration, collaboration and not competition.

Intricacies of noise, self-development of taste and homages to  past times, a compilation of works from new upcomers and scene veterans. Having captured the face of a pseudo-mentalist, these artists have noted the effect of the long exposure to sound that may have affected their biomechanical characteristics. 

For a while, you will discover new things, and it is all so exciting and fresh, because this altered state gives you new perception, in and hindsight.  Music Theory, out of all things, can also have some pretty nasty effects on your body. All of it can mean you can start suffering long before you become a musician.

You’ll probably start looking ill, losing weight and feeling like you might deserve it.You’ll begin to play instruments not to get high anymore, but only because that is your new standardised norm. You simply don’t know what else to do. As you lose control of your body’s health you could eventually lose control over your mind too. 

Until  one day you’ll wake up knowing that, instead of continuing investing yourself in your instruments, they slowly become controlling towards you. So, if a friend invites you to a jam session, use your brain, while you still can. And just, say, yes.

| PREMIERE | xceptor - acid pulse riot | [Machine Cult]

'One Of The Receivers’ is an 8-track adaptation of the text, ‘Notes From A Pandemic’, released by August Skipper in 2020, a collection of poetry and abstract musings on the nature of shared delusion and collective psychosis in the face of extraordinary historical events. The music takes the form of heavy, cinematic drones, interspersed with moments of explosive sound design, a shifting base upon which a narrative unfolds that is at once dream-like, bizarre, foreboding and intimate.

In October of 2020 August Skipper released his text “Notes From A Pandemic” in book format. With text sleekly inlaid on a cloth bound cover, black on black, the materiality of the book contextualizes itself within the historically tense environment it came to fruition within. Hand numbered and signed, a limited edition of 200 copies, the gesture of intimacy between writer and reader is reflective. Skipper advertised the book as a reflection on “the psychic implosion resulting from the initial European quarantine”. Two years past the global phenomena that was, and for some still is, COVID-19 Skipper's negotiation of angst, vulnerability, and confusion was a prescient illustration of what would come to be a particularly turbulent world event.

November 12, 2023 sees the release of “One Of The Receivers”, a re-examination of Skipper’s text within an aural framework. Not simply a spoken word recanting of the text, Skipper uses “One Of The Receivers” as a new setting for dramaturgical collaboration and tonal placement of his writings. Skipper enlists fellow artists Cunce, Angelo Harmsworth, Luna Vassarotti, Samuel Savenberg, Wan, and Ireen Amnes to engender the uneasy surreality that is the post-pandemic zeitgeist into hallucinatory auditory landscapes. Skipper’s voice floats with dramatic affect over his collaborators’ sonic palettes, stylistically challenging his utility as both narrator and sound source in the environments that “One Of The Receivers” inhabits.

Skipper’s journal of uncertainty resonates in a new capacity from its initial inception both in time and media format. Curiously, the recycled investigation within his musings give pause for reflection that, in fact, we are perhaps in no further illuminated a space. Sitting amidst an interstitial contemporary reality of dread, boredom, and confusion we collectively yearn for a new kind of catharsis, one that seems, as yet, beyond our immediate grasp.
