'One Of The Receivers’ is an 8-track adaptation of the text, ‘Notes From A Pandemic’, released by August Skipper in 2020, a collection of poetry and abstract musings on the nature of shared delusion and collective psychosis in the face of extraordinary historical events. The music takes the form of heavy, cinematic drones, interspersed with moments of explosive sound design, a shifting base upon which a narrative unfolds that is at once dream-like, bizarre, foreboding and intimate.

In October of 2020 August Skipper released his text “Notes From A Pandemic” in book format. With text sleekly inlaid on a cloth bound cover, black on black, the materiality of the book contextualizes itself within the historically tense environment it came to fruition within. Hand numbered and signed, a limited edition of 200 copies, the gesture of intimacy between writer and reader is reflective. Skipper advertised the book as a reflection on “the psychic implosion resulting from the initial European quarantine”. Two years past the global phenomena that was, and for some still is, COVID-19 Skipper's negotiation of angst, vulnerability, and confusion was a prescient illustration of what would come to be a particularly turbulent world event.

November 12, 2023 sees the release of “One Of The Receivers”, a re-examination of Skipper’s text within an aural framework. Not simply a spoken word recanting of the text, Skipper uses “One Of The Receivers” as a new setting for dramaturgical collaboration and tonal placement of his writings. Skipper enlists fellow artists Cunce, Angelo Harmsworth, Luna Vassarotti, Samuel Savenberg, Wan, and Ireen Amnes to engender the uneasy surreality that is the post-pandemic zeitgeist into hallucinatory auditory landscapes. Skipper’s voice floats with dramatic affect over his collaborators’ sonic palettes, stylistically challenging his utility as both narrator and sound source in the environments that “One Of The Receivers” inhabits.

Skipper’s journal of uncertainty resonates in a new capacity from its initial inception both in time and media format. Curiously, the recycled investigation within his musings give pause for reflection that, in fact, we are perhaps in no further illuminated a space. Sitting amidst an interstitial contemporary reality of dread, boredom, and confusion we collectively yearn for a new kind of catharsis, one that seems, as yet, beyond our immediate grasp.

"A dome is a very simple concept, it separates two autonomous atmospheres. And there is life on Earth because of the Ozone layers, it was magic, the right distance from the sun and the moon and you have life in an otherwise dead galaxy. The ozone absorbs radiation and stops the planet from disappearing in one gigantic blow torch. A very thin layer of gas provides balance in the ecosystem until one day that gas disappeared, I remember that day quite clearly my city was under siege. The first human civilization that is independent from Earth's natural balance, our scientist predicted the event  and kept other cities in the dark, the ozone or sudden disappearance of the ozone killed Billions. The city of Glass closed it doors for many centuries, they call it "Manheim" until the outside radiation settled. Earth mutated.The Glass city of Mann stands as the last human settlement. The outside outnumbers Glass men and women and also started building their own domes, courtesy of our scientist who died protecting it. The outside mutations told their children a different story. They called the Glass survivors... the Invaders. When we are the only one who stayed pure. We where outnumbered. There where many siege but they all failed. Since you have to break the Glass from the inside. And no one is going in. That was in 2099, and now that all domes can travel interconnected, Tesseract in the year 3021 is the only city of Glass Continents that was left open and it is now under sieged by the city of Candeleria of the Stone Continents. Every year they unlock their doors and release mayhem. But sometimes to cure future diseases you have to infect your own body from a virus to slowly get aquainted with  Earth's new atmosphere. The first city that took down their domes was annihilated by the new bacteria and other alien mutations. The Glass kept Tesseract as it's 'Wall of the Last Humans' and a feral boy is at the center of this Siege. He doesn't look, smell, talk, walk, think, adjust, see, plan, dream like the billion Tesseractis. The half-breeds of The Glass, but their mothers told their children different bed time stories. My name is Captain Novak of Manheim 254 and my coordinates are 95xw---1ss beta alpha 5029, and Earth is taken. I will try to reverse this polarity, signing off.
