Symbiosis (from Greek συμβίωσις, symbíōsis, "living together", from σύν, sýn, "together", and βίωσις, bíōsis, "living") is any type of a close and long-term biological interaction between two different biological organisms, be it mutualistic, commensalistic, or parasitic. 

The organisms, each termed a symbiont, must be of different species. 

Symbiosis can be obligatory, which means that one or more of the symbiosis depend on each other for survival, or facultative (optional), when they can generally live independently.

Symbiosis is also classified by physical attachment. When symbionts form a single body it is called conjunctive symbiosis, while all other arrangements are called disjunctive symbiosis.

 When one organism lives on the surface of another, such as head lice on humans, it is called ectosymbiosis; when one partner lives inside the tissues of another, such as Symbiodinium within coral, it is termed endosymbiosis.

As the label celebrates its 10th release, Moon By Day continues to solidify its reputation as a platform for dreamy, downtempo electronica and acoustic beats. At its core, the label showcases music from the heart, inspired from all around the world, and the debut EP from Louis Tobin aka MOONTIDE continues to embody this philosophy. As the EP title suggests, the Melbourne-based producer takes us on a journey of his 27th year, not only emotionally but also physically, with the tracks recorded between Central America and Australia’s Mornington Peninsula. Varied, yet coherent, Tobin explores the boundaries of downtempo electronica with this milestone release for the label.

Opening the EP is the sexy, yet emotive Amore, with its slinky, seductive pace and layers of string samples. With melancholy chords and cinematic crescendos, Broken is a high-energy, breakbeat- influenced cut, conveying a range of complex emotions. Lolite is both beautiful and driving with its heartbeat-esque rhythm and dramatic vocal samples. Both meditative and slightly eerie, The Only Wanderers is somewhat of a nod to the producer’s spirituality with its pulsating percussion and layered instrument samples from the didgeridoo through to the sitar.

The POAN Collaborations EP is a journey into musical kinship. It is a project spawned from the idea that we can create so much more potent art when we come together and combine our strengths to create something that we could never create on our own. These collaborations were birthed out of the musical genius of Lorenzo Mantovani of the ambient instrumental project POAN (his project with Giacomo Barbari). Lorenzo put together seven different loop packs using his wide range of instruments which were then passed on to these producers to create something totally new out of the recordings. Each track takes on a whole new life of it’s own with the unique beat driven approach of each individual producer. The collaborations range from high energy dance tracks to deep hypnotic introspective journeys with everything in between. May this collaborative effort be a testament to the potency of coming together as a collective musical family.

This beautiful collaborative effort is the result of the convergence of three friends from around the world. Bachan combines her beautiful heart-opening voice with the first time collaboration of producers Mose & Binder. What started as a solo remix by Mose flowered into the magic it is with the special touch of Binder who joined the project and took a deep dive into the foundation set by Mose & Bachan. It is another beautiful example of how we can all support and inspire each other to manifest something special incorporating the essence of a few together as one.
