Perpendicular 2023 - Bas Dobbelaer

It is a big honour to feature the very talented @syberkid for our ninth Herbarium Episode. With her organic and trippy sound, she makes the perfect match for our series.
The artist chose one of the oldest ferns for her mix, Pteridium Aquilinum. There are fossil records for this plant which are over 55 million years old.
It’s native in the U.K., the place where Sybil is based. She says '[it] looks so prehistoric & Jurassic, I love it.'

It is wonderful how Sybil integrates the mystic yet ancient vibe of this plant into her mix. It describes the complex form and the magic which comes with the age of its existence on earth very well. There are moments in which one can imagine to really communicate with this inspiring plant and feel the atmosphere around it in our forests.

Herbarium No 9 - Sybil - Pteridium Aquilinum

The collaboration between us and the Mostra festival gets a new chapter, and this one is quite special - the recording of the festival's closing set by incredibly talented Japanese artist Lynne. Throughout the festival, Mostra showcased carefully selected talent, emphasizing quality above all else. Lynne's DJ set at Mostra was a testament to her unparalleled talent and expertise. With a keen understanding of the festival's needs and the audience's energy, Lynne took us on a unique journey that left us in awe. And it wasn't an easy task for Lynne. She had to follow the exceptional 4-hour set by Patrick Russell, but she pushed the bar even higher, leaving a lasting impression that we still talk about three months later. 

As the fatigue of the four-day music marathon loomed over the crowd, she fearlessly embraced the challenge of delivering an unforgettable closing performance. Lynne's selection of powerful half-time drum&bass ignited a fiery energy within Castell Du Monjuic, transforming the atmosphere into a seething cauldron of sound. 

The recording of this set captures every electrifying moment, delivering an experience that rivals the memories we hold in our minds. Prepare to be swept away as Lynne showcases drum'n'bass 2.0, infusing it with her unique and awe-inspiring artistry.

He co-founded the music platform Delayed (@itsdelayed) and the newly minted record label Never Late (@never-late). He's been making music alongside his partner in crime, Irina Kotik, as Moon Patrol. He has released music on labels like On Board Music, Oslated, Huinali, Lost in Translation, A Friend in Need, Lossless, and Accents Records. With a monthly radio show, 'The Night Before,' on Radio D59B (@radiod59b), Gilles delves into the depths of electronic music, showcasing what's new in the 'left field' world.

Joan Gila (joan-gila) is defined as a music connoisseur. He has been collecting records since he was 15, and his great passion is rummaging through boxes to discover hidden gems. Joan is the creative mind and curator behind the HOC radio podcast platform (@hoc-radio). Additionally, he is part of the DJ duo Binomi (@binomi) alongside his longtime friend, where they have performed at various venues in Barcelona and beyond, including notable events like Mostra Festival or Perpendicular. They also released a music talk show at Dublab Barcelona called "Geography and History." Moreover, Binomi and his partner in crime Nico have a project called HIRU, where they are in charge of creating captivating sound journeys in the Laut every two months.
This year, he launched a small cassette and digital music label based on ambient and avant-garde sounds called "Red Edge" (@red-edge-label), with a first work by ABSIS.

In this podcast, I have tried to create a sort of soundtrack inspired by dark and repetitive sounds, interspersed or juxtaposed with textures or experiments that aim to build a shifting atmosphere of intrigue and even a certain discomfort, alternating with the pleasure and serenity that deep drones provide, even when stemming from dark tones.

Sciama's DJ set kicked off the third day of performances curated at Castell de Montjuïc for Mostra 23 (@mostrabcn). The second edition of the Catalan festival brought together a total of 1,000 people across two different locations and featured four days of musical acts. The lineup included 31 artists who delivered high-quality avant-garde and experimental electronic sounds.

With a name referencing northern Vietnam's high, foggy mountains, expect a live recorded podcast from our May party that resembles the northern parts of Vietnam: Hazy, clear and unclear, mystic, and at times pushing forward, finding directions, this podcast feels like a (musical) journey of ambient soundscapes, dub, and pitched down that leaves one to reach the higher spheres (of Vietnam).
