The POAN Collaborations EP is a journey into musical kinship. It is a project spawned from the idea that we can create so much more potent art when we come together and combine our strengths to create something that we could never create on our own. These collaborations were birthed out of the musical genius of Lorenzo Mantovani of the ambient instrumental project POAN (his project with Giacomo Barbari). Lorenzo put together seven different loop packs using his wide range of instruments which were then passed on to these producers to create something totally new out of the recordings. Each track takes on a whole new life of it’s own with the unique beat driven approach of each individual producer. The collaborations range from high energy dance tracks to deep hypnotic introspective journeys with everything in between. May this collaborative effort be a testament to the potency of coming together as a collective musical family.

It was a very special moment when our Brazilian friend and artist Ygor Marotta AKA VJ SUAVE shared his music with us for the first time. Marotta, best known the founder of the multi-disciplinary duo VJ Suave and as a member of the beloved Voodoohop family, joins Bahia based producer Bela Amado AKA Irû & fellow São Paulo bassist Tomás Xavier to present their new project Pássaro (Bird).

The trio’s debut EP Pássaro Encantado (Enchanted Bird) was recorded during a three day jamming session in Marotta’s Sao Paulo studio. It sounds is like a psychedelic tropical hike, a mysterious and enchanting journey into VJ Suave’s world, at once captivating but experimental, pop and psychedelic, natural and synthesized. Brazilian traditional influences sit alongside with wobbling electronic flutes, spaced out synths and Xavier’s freeform bass guitar. The five tracks are in the order that they were created: the energy and unique moment of those jam sessions at Marotta’s studio is printed perfectly onto the soul of this music.

Zum 55ten Igelkarussell-Podcast ist Anstoßen Pflicht, also lassen wir – zumindest virtuell – zusammen mit Daniel Imhof aus Bern die Krüge klingen 🥂 
Zunächst ein paar Worte zu seiner gewaltigen Schaffenskraft: Neben dem Auflegen und eigener Musikproduktion ist er in der Podcastserie von Echoes from Venus involviert, ein Züricher Label erster Güteklasse in Sachen Downtempo. Als Mitglied der Berner „Flanieren“-Crew veranstaltet er außerdem Partys für die hiesige Downtempo-Gemeinde. Und als wäre das noch nicht genug moderiert er schon seit rund 15 Jahren die Sendung Supernova des lokalen Kult-Radiosenders RaBe. „Was das Herz berührt und Harmonieherzen höher schlagen lässt,“ lautet die Devise der Sendung, die ihre ZuhӧrerInnen stets mit Musik verschiedenster Genres erfreut – von Ambient bis World Music ist für alle etwas dabei. So facettenreich wie er selbst ist selbstverständlich auch sein Sound, der sich schwer auf wenige Genres beschränken lässt.
