Be it through passion, determination, or just sheer stubbornness, gardenstate continues to bloom. A transatlantic labour of love from superproducer Marcus Schössow and club promoter Matt Felner, their debut album ‘Inspirations’ is out now on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint. 

At the heart of Sweden’s decade-long domination of club music in the 2010s, Marcus’ fifteen-year-long career boasts a smörgårdsbord of styles. You’ve got electro with ‘Swedish Beatballs’, the mainstage energy of ‘Reverie’ and ‘Ulysses’, and the driving progressive of ‘London / 1985’. Few artists have record sleeves from Axtone, Armada, Size, Spinnin’ and Anjunadeep in their catalogue. Heavily invested in the early 2010’s big room sound, he was a permanent feature in the sets of Swedish House Mafia and Knife Party. 

New Jersey native Matt Felner gave up his blue-collar job to follow his passion for electronic music. A respected promoter and performer, he’s brought emerging artists to the clubs of New York and the East Coast. In 2008, he toured Marcus Schössow and they became close friends.

Making music on their own terms, the gardenstate sound is a melting pot of ‘90s trance nostalgia, brooding melodic techno, peak-time breaks and poignant songwriting. Few acts can worm their way into the DJ sets of Oliver Heldens, Kölsch, Cristoph, CamelPhat, Tiësto, Lane 8 and Above & Beyond at the same time. 

Releases on Joris Voorn’s Spectrum Records and Yotto’s Odd One Out have nurtured an underground following, while reworks of A&B and Gabriel & Dresden have introduced them to the trance and progressive crowd.

Opening track ‘Aurora’, co-produced with Paavo from Above & Beyond and featuring vocals from Nandini Srikar, is a love letter to the life-affirming experience Marcus had playing in India. Paavo’s studio was also the birthplace for ‘Revival’, a collaboration with Gabriel & Dresden, Andy Moor and PROFF, while long time friends SØNIN and BLR (Leon Bolier) join Marcus and Matt for ‘Koski’. 

‘Répondez-moi’, a dance floor reworking of Switzerland’s 2020 Eurovision entry, partners Marcus and Matt with Gjon’s Tears, who finished third in this year’s competition.

There’s a heavy breaks influence across the album, including ‘1995’, and BBC Radio 1-endorsed ‘Take Me There’ with GVN, Anjunabeats 700th catalogue release.

gardenstate’s debut album ‘Inspirations’ is out now on Anjunabeats, and is available to buy now on special edition 2x12” coloured vinyl from the Anjuna Music Store. gardenstate are touring the U.K., U.S.A. and India this year, with headline shows at London’s The Cause, Miami’s Treehouse and more lined up. Harry Diamond and K-MRK collide on new double A-side ‘Canyons / Orbit’.

Two names that will be familiar to our Anjunafamily, they released ‘Inner Ghosts’ on Anjunabeats Rising 8 in the summer of 2021. Their previous releases together have been supported by the likes of Above & Beyond, Tiestö, Annie Mac, Danny Howard, Pete Tong and more. Harry Diamond has previously appeared on Anjunabeats with ‘Electrified’, a 2011 collaboration with Darren Tate and Nicolai. 

On ‘Canyons’, Harry and K-MRK have enlisted a legendary vocal talent in Steve Smith. Best known as the lead vocalist for GRAMMY-nominated group Dirty Vegas. He’s the voice behind hits ‘Days Go By’, ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Tonight’, the latter of which was remixed by Above & Beyond in 2009 and released on Anjunabeats Volume 7. 

There will be more music from Harry Diamond and K-MRK on Anjunabeats later this year, and we’re delighted to welcome Harry onto the lineup for Group Therapy Weekender London on September 10 & 11. Tickets are on sale now.

The debut artist album of eleven.five, the Virginia native who we affectionately know as Eric Fox, has truly been a lifetime in the making. We, at Silk Music, have had the privilege of co-piloting the last five years of eleven.five's musical journey, as his memorable lead themes and innovative grooves have found their way into the hands of Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, and various other esteemed international purveyors of house, progressive, and trance. «Intricate Records is something tangible and emerging from our long-term friendship and creative relations. – It is hard to imagine that someone will make an objection regarding many associable details and ideas of our creative work. The most significant part is that our preferences and tastes intricately but harmoniously amplify each other in most cases. All of us feel it. That is why the creation of a record label is a logical step for our career».

A friendship is one thing, but continuous development is vitally important. This is why the fellows decided not to take a break at the level of current achievements and grounded their own record label. «By the times someone discovers the points of coincidence with the colleagues not only in terms of business, but also creative sphere – that is always a positive experience! – Unification of musical efforts in frames of one label is our next and by no means unimportant step in creative self-fulfillment».

It is important to mention that the quad is not going to limit the newborn imprint’s catalog only with own productions. Intricate Records is also a promising platform for implementation of creative aspiration of other talented producers who feel themselves on the same wave quite often.

«Right at the moment there is no single record label which coincides with my musical taste and general conception, which I would like to see being embodied. Starting a new imprint with the fellow guys, I’m looking forward to the having the possibility of fulfilling myself as an A&R-manager and making the current musical world at least a little bit better.
