To celebrate 20 years of building Labyrinths, we have decided to release one set from each of the last ten years. I've chosen ten timeless moments that both document the history of the event and provide a historical snapshot of underground electronic music over the past ten years.

We have chosen a broad range--from closing techno sets, to morning ambient sets, to experimental sets to close the night. Each set represents a different side of the event. Taken together, they present a portrait of a decade of music.

The Labyrinthの20周年を記念して、過去10年間を振り返り、それぞれの年からひとつのミックスをピックアップすることにしました。イベントの歴史を記録すると同時に、過去10年間のアンダーグラウンドエレクトロニックミュージックの歴史的なスナップショットを提供します。今聞いても色褪せない、タイムレスな極上のミックスをお楽しみください。

テクノのクロージングセットから、朝のアンビエントセット、そして夜を締めくくるエクスペリメンタルセットまで幅広いセレクトですが、どのセットもThe Labyrinthの欠かせない側面を表しており、ここ10年におけるエレクトロニック ミュージックの全容とも言えるでしょう。

Son Of Chi: I always make live sketches. This time for my performance in Athens (scroll down for more info). Not sure if I will stick to them, but they give the right impression of the atmosphere i would like to create. The opening words by Kain The Poet reflect the times we live in and the challenges we are facing. I will end with a piece from “The Fifth World Recordings”.  

According to the Hopi prophecies we are now living in the transition years, moving from the fourth world into the fifth world. As they say: “times of earthquakes, floodings, fires, pandemics and wars”. The Hopi believe that in this period you need to be careful where you stay, who you stay with and what you do. Keep practising the holy rituals. Respect nature, the earth, the universe and be good to your fellowmen and all living creatures.

As the Hopi say the fifth world  “represents a spiritual awakening, an evolution in understanding the interconnectedness of all beings and the universe”. We are in the middle of this transition. All we can do is stick to our rituals.

Or as Hazrat Inayat Khan says: “The further we advance, the more difficult and the more important becomes our part in the symphony of life. The more conscious we are of this responsibility, the more efficient we become in accomplishing our task”.

On April 22nd, Mostra took over Espacio Perpendicular for a few hours.

Mostra is an independent, small-scale festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music that was born four years ago to nurture the Barcelona scene. Mostra is local, inclusive, and sustainable. An independent festival made in Barcelona for Barcelonans, but with international vision and reach.

The event, which took place during the day, featured performances by Mattikk, Emilia Grima, Pillen, Doozer, Haara, and F-on.

This set was recorded live at Corsica Studios on Friday the 8th of February 2019. I was playing for Make Me, from 23.00 - 00.30, sat on a swivel stool in the booth of room one. 

It was a new experience to play this kind of music on a club sound system as powerful as Corsica’s, and in the same booth I have previously only played ravey techno in. Thanks to Make Me for the opportunity once again to put a new spin on how we can use club spaces, and what types of music we can listen to in them together. Starting a night with an ambient set feels like a shared moment of calm for everyone who comes down early, a chance to chat with friends and wash away the feelings of the day gone by before the dance music begins later on.

As with all my Deep Mind Music mixes, this set is me pouring out my soul in musical form. I played some all time favourite tracks in this one too, including ‘Liquid Sky’ by System 7 at the beginning, a deep and longing track that speaks to the very core of my being. And the final track on this mix, ‘Welcome To The New Day’ by Commodity Place, is another very special track to me. I feel like the title really captures it’s energy, it’s saying be present, be joyous, for there is so much to be thankful for. It feels like cruising down a highway at sunset with the roof down.
