As we enter cosy-season, I’m really happy to share the next Deep Mind Music mix with you all. This is a re-recording of the set I played for @transience-archive at WHOLE festival last year. A 6AM set in glistening morning light for tired beings and expansive minds 💠

This one is straight from the heart, I hope you find something in this journey ~ a soft evaporation into vaporous clouds, a space for quiet reflection, a shimmering fractal of emotion 🤍🦋🤍✧｡⋆.

A long time coming, this new chapter in our Podcast Series comes from our dear friend and one of our favourite live artists, dan nicholls. We’d have a hard time counting exactly how many times we’ve seen them concoct their colourful sonic potions, effortlessly merging multi-layered depth with soft playfulness, oscillating between meditative horizontal sounds, spoken word and field recordings and high energy bass infected half & double time dance workouts. To witness an artist in pursuit of their genuine expression succeed in building a world of their own while being versatile and open is a beautiful thing to behold and we feel so lucky to be able to share this little peek into Dan’s workshop, in the form a live set recording from Brussels’ Brasserie Atlas ✨

dan nicholls is a producer and multi-instrumentalist exploring sounds at the crossroads of ambient, electronica, jazz and free improvisation. Over the years, Dan has moved on from a career in jazz, via electronic music, to a heartfelt embrace of rave culture and the feminist and queer theories which are all strongly present in the current iteration of their solo projects and collaborations. With a powerful grasp on world building with, through and beyond sound, they co-curate the London-based Free Movements - a multi-sensory event series hosting genre fluid experimental music performances crossing both acoustic and electronic realms 🔮

In the true spirit of their highly collaborative workflow ~ always in the process of making with and through people and other-than-human critters, culture & politics ~ this improvised recording features voices of tyroneisaacstewart, Lauren Kinsella, Juju Love, Moor Mother, Gillie Nicholls, Janet Blake and Palestinian activist whose words contribute in different ways to amplifying of marginalised ideas. And it seems that for every word, there is a sound to match, a little something that carries its weight, gives it a warm embrace and lets it slip in our ears with tenderness and gravity to be remembered through feeling. There’s only one way to know and that’s to press play and listen 🐚

Moon Patrol is the musical project of Irina Kotik (@irina-kotik) and Gilles Wasserman (@gilleswasserman), co-founders of the Brooklyn-based platform Delayed (@itsdelayed). Their work has appeared on labels like Oslated, On Board Music, SoHaSo, Huinali, and others. Moon Patrol drifts between frequencies—half dream, half pulse. Shaped by shifting moods and shared silence, their sound moves from warm electronica and lush ambient to shadowy techno and back again.

Deep Breakfast 302 ~ Bambi

For our March introspective radio show, we had the pleasure of welcoming an old friend of ours, Casper Clark aka Volte-Face to take you through two hours of ambient & downtempo selections from his sizeable collection of music for curious ears 💫

As expected, things got pretty interesting on air at Netil Radio that Thursday afternoon and we are so happy to finally be sharing the recording of the show with you today. It’s a smooth voyage departing from the misty ports of spacious drones and sailing patiently into the deep ocean waters of progressive half time and dusty alternative experiments ⛵️

Volte-Face, a moniker of BleeD promoter/label-head Casper Clark, was a fixture on the European techno scene from 2014-2019, with his own productions (also as Rote alongside Daniel Avery) appearing on labels such as Semantica, Phorma and Non-Series His BleeD imprint also released material from the likes of Wata Igarashi, DJ Nobu, Refracted and Svreca, and he played regularly for the likes of Berghain, fabric, Tresor and Khidi . After an enforced hiatus , he's started to rear his head again with a recent mix for Oslated and a forthcoming ambient session for Deep Breakfast Series. He's also been hosting his own Through The Wreckage ambient mixtape series on Soundcloud, which is updated regularly.

Basel’s Timnah joins our series with a long-anticipated recording from last year’s inaugural pe:rsona, an intimate gathering from the minds at Positive Education. Over the years Timnah has established a reputation for expansive and visionary selections without equal, lending her voice to the beloved Amentia and A Walking Contradiction collectives and leading audiences into captivating unknowns worldwide. Recorded live in the French countryside at the peak of summer, Timnah’s set smolders with delicate tension, lacing outward like tendrils upon shattering glass. A passionate music lover and record collector for over half his life, Joan Gila is the curator of HOC Radio and the label known as red edge with releases by ABSIS and Bastien. Alongside Javi and his friend Jordi, with whom he runs the Binomi project, he co-hosts MostRadio from Mostra Festival.

With his latest solo album Quiet Pieces initiating his imprint Soft Echoes, Abul Mogard mixes composers and collaborators that have permeated his discography and inspirations. An impeccable sense of flow and continuity defines these selections, as Mogard says: "I imagined this mix as an atmosphere you could inhabit – a quiet weave of pieces I’m drawn to. It’s a sound collage of old and new music, where tracks meet and overlap gently, carrying you along in a flow while subtly shifting the scenery beneath your feet." From groaning ambience to trilling winds and warm washes of glitching noise comes a frisson of flutes on Stefano Pilia’s ‘CADUX / Plectere’ over an all consuming rumbling bass drone. Mogard highlights vocals in the midsection: the hissing of ‘Anticredos’, Meredith monk’s harmonic conterplay with arrays of pointillist vocal notes, Félicia Atkinson’s spoken word barely rising from its quietude, before brewing a dense buzzing electrical storm of swirling currents and gyres with the final few tracks, the rugged and visceral clockwork of Rafael Anton Irisarri mechanically crumbling as William Basinski’s piano notes eternally intone.
