For the 48th instalment of our podcast series, Introspective Electronics founder Lucie Stepankova aka Avsluta steps in with a live recording of her DJ set at last month’s Ambient Tide, a Brussels-based listening event series run by our dear friend and fellow ambientist Kato De Vidts. We couldn’t imagine a better setting for this set to take place ~ the floor fully covered in rugs and cushions, low hanging lanterns emanating soft warm light, the scent of palo santo drifting through the air and focused audience listening with patience and curiosity 💆🏻‍♀️

Avsluta is a London-based producer, DJ, live performer and event curator navigating the liminal spaces between ambient and dance music. For the past 8 years, Lucie has been deepening her musical knowledge working behind the counter at Phonica Records, catering to London’s ambient and downtempo heads on most Saturdays and making a few good friends along the way. She runs Introspective Electronics as is actually the person writing this text, which does feel a little awkward but it has to be done. Together with her friend Alicia, she runs Terra Obscura, aiming to make clubbing cozy and on ocassion, curates solo or collaborative ambient events as part of Introspective Electronics ✨

Just shy of two hours, this mix weaves a thread of hopeful softness made for moments of deep relaxation and focus. Voices and gentle rhythms ebb and flow atop lush drones, giving way to arpeggiated passages, spoken word and field recordings. Recommended listening at dusk, in a candle-lit space, floating on a pile of cushions and wrapped in fluffy blankets with a mandatory cup of steaming tea 🍵

in spring 2024, i restarted collecting music on bandcamp and pouring some of it into mixes with a pioneer ddj-flx4. not sure if i'd call it djing - it's more like making mixtapes for myself and share them with the world. it sure is a form of self-therapy, though.

i did some vinyl-djing with minimal techno/elektro/idm in the late '90s and early 2000s at events in germany and a bit of europe, then slowly moved on to other things in life. finally, i donated most of my old record collection to the local dj community, marking a fresh start for me. sometimes it's good to let go and make space for new things, i guess.

as a kid growing up in the countryside, i spent a lot of time close to nature, collecting stones, sticks or weeds. it feels like i do a similar thing with music today, at least it gives me the same joy. does that make sense?
