Deep Breakfast 246 ~ Resom

For the 48th instalment of our podcast series, Introspective Electronics founder Lucie Stepankova aka Avsluta steps in with a live recording of her DJ set at last month’s Ambient Tide, a Brussels-based listening event series run by our dear friend and fellow ambientist Kato De Vidts. We couldn’t imagine a better setting for this set to take place ~ the floor fully covered in rugs and cushions, low hanging lanterns emanating soft warm light, the scent of palo santo drifting through the air and focused audience listening with patience and curiosity 💆🏻‍♀️

Avsluta is a London-based producer, DJ, live performer and event curator navigating the liminal spaces between ambient and dance music. For the past 8 years, Lucie has been deepening her musical knowledge working behind the counter at Phonica Records, catering to London’s ambient and downtempo heads on most Saturdays and making a few good friends along the way. She runs Introspective Electronics as is actually the person writing this text, which does feel a little awkward but it has to be done. Together with her friend Alicia, she runs Terra Obscura, aiming to make clubbing cozy and on ocassion, curates solo or collaborative ambient events as part of Introspective Electronics ✨

Just shy of two hours, this mix weaves a thread of hopeful softness made for moments of deep relaxation and focus. Voices and gentle rhythms ebb and flow atop lush drones, giving way to arpeggiated passages, spoken word and field recordings. Recommended listening at dusk, in a candle-lit space, floating on a pile of cushions and wrapped in fluffy blankets with a mandatory cup of steaming tea 🍵

"We’re excited to present to the Deep Breakfast community a live hybrid set performed in our Northern California studio in December 2024. Starting from a setlist of beloved ambient works, we improvised on our modular synthesizers to create extended transitions between tracks. While a track played, we’d sample it to create loops and textures, slowly building new compositions with these layers and other synthesized elements. We look forward to continuing the investigation of this hybrid style, exploring the spectrum between production, DJing, and improvisation."

Deep Breakfast 293 ~ Night Sea (Hybrid Live)

Winter has a way of slowing things down. Certain comforts stand out in the quiet of these colder months—a warm drink in hand, the familiar weight of a well-worn sweater, and a mix that carries the depth and warmth of something tangible, something analog. That very sensation defines the work of our next guest in the “Delayed with…” series: Velvia, a multidisciplinary artist from Paris whose love for analog textures runs through his photography and music. Whether capturing light on film or digging through his ever-expanding collection of records, his approach is driven by a deep appreciation for detail, process, and the imperfections that make things feel alive.

Marking a special milestone, Velvia takes the reins for the 150th edition of the series, guiding us through the submerged world of dubby house and techno, where atmosphere dictates movement and groove follows instinctively. The transitions unfold with an understated elegance, weaving together sounds that resist rigid categorization. Somewhere between structure and spontaneity, this mix lingers in the undefined spaces, embracing the beauty of subtle shifts and evolving textures.

Much like the film stock he takes his name from, Velvia’s work is all about depth, contrast, and a heightened sense of reality. This mix is no different. It doesn’t just fill the room; it sharpens the details, deepens the shadows, and brings the moment into focus.

Moon Patrol is the musical project of Irina Kotik (@irina-kotik) and Gilles Wasserman (@gilleswasserman), co-founders of the Brooklyn-based platform Delayed (@itsdelayed). Their work has appeared on labels like Oslated, On Board Music, SoHaSo, Huinali, and others. Moon Patrol drifts between frequencies—half dream, half pulse. Shaped by shifting moods and shared silence, their sound moves from warm electronica and lush ambient to shadowy techno and back again.

Jo Johnson is a British musician whose three-decade journey spans punk, techno, and contemplative electronic minimalism. A former guitarist for the influential 90s riot grrrl band Huggy Bear, she later immersed herself in the underground techno scene,  joining the Bleep43 collective in 2001 and founding its label. Jo’s solo work explores immersive and emotive sonic landscapes through synthesizers and effects, influenced by pioneering women in electronic music. Her albums have been released on Further Records, Going In, Mysteries of the Deep, and Castles in Space. She is a regular performer at festivals and venues like Freerotation, The Purcell Room, Cafe Oto, and Parallel.

In 2025, Jo launched Alterations, an evolving album project released track-by-track on Bandcamp, each piece accompanied by exclusive materials for subscribers. She has collaborated with pianist Hilary Robinson, releasing experimental works on 9128.live and performing at events like Daylight Music. As a DJ, Jo has appeared on platforms such as Refuge Worldwide, Monument Waves, and Music for Programming. Beyond music, she has contributed to a Huggy Bear book project compiling the band’s zines and history. Jo also co-curates Bleep43’s deep listening events in unique spaces across London, championing boundary-pushing artists in ambient and experimental sound.

Many of you will need no introduction to the music of Primal Code, the Italian duo who have conjured up a storm of stunning releases on labels such as Hypnus, The Gods Planet, and Konstrukt in relatively short order. We first connected over their gorgeous, then-unreleased track "Morgana," and since then it's been a pleasure watching them develop their natural and introspective sound, each release as polished and inspiring as the last. I'm so happy to welcome them to the podcast and what they've sent is pure delight, an emerald  evocation of sun-pierced woods and the clearing of the morning mist. Enjoy!
