Be With Records and Emotional Rescue team up to present a special release of US jazz vocal group Rare Silk and their cult song, Storm. 

A diggers cut for many years, more recently it's become an algorithm "hit". Presented here as a stand-alone limited 10" release, the song is backed by a spellbinding echo-drenched remix by New York's exemplary electronic sonic explorer, Arp. 

Originally formed when sisters MaryLynn and Gaile Gillaspie met Marquerite Juenemann in southern California in the late '70s, with the arrival of Todd Buffa the trio quickly expanded to a four-part harmony vocal group. Signed to Polydor, they rose to prominence over the ensuing decade with the release of three albums that gained them multiple Grammy nominations. 

Taken from their 1985 album American Eyes, Storm is based on a Stanley Turrentine song of the same name, from his 1971 album Salt Song. With additional vocals written by MaryLynn, as with much of their music -underpinned as it is by an otherworldly exotica - the artisanal, crafted care of the instrumental and vocal arrangements, featuring lush, rich phrasing, is evident in their exquisite reading of the song. 

When deciding how best of present the song it seemed right to ask a favourite of both labels. Having appeared on Emotional Response in 2017/18, Alexis Georgopoulos returned to his Arp project with last years' much-heralded Zebra album on Mexican Summer. Stripping out the vocals, the remaining instrumental is rearranged, rebuilt and then soaked in heavy tape echo. The result is a discerning dub to act as the perfect accompaniment.

Hailing from different places in western Europe, Luc Bersier, Low Bat, Leonard Prochazka and Ariel Garcia created this vibrant EP. Their synergy tells a story of creativity, freedom in sound and, above all, playfulness. Serious music while similarly not being to earnest. 
Their venture evolved into a very original blend of cosmic music, utilizing instruments that fit into the neofolk Krautrock domain, vocal experiments into French chanson territory, infused in Berlinian cosmopolitanism. Expect an exciting minimal wave synth punk orgy, punk definitely being the defining trait underneath these layers of sound. 
This is boundless music with attitude, capable of making us drift off and disrupt us in equal measure.

Inversions returns with an assemblage of miscellanea from the magnetic tape archives of Dunkelziffer and Phantom Band guitarist Dominik Von Senger. Capturing impromptu moments of between the scenes coaction amongst the likes of Reebop Kwaku Baah, Jaki Liebezeit and Dominik himself, to create an animated picture of his communal musical activities at Brüsseler Platz, during a fertile period for underground music and art in Cologne, and exhibit a mosaic of moods, from mirthful to meditative.

Berlin based musician Bernd Friedmann started his musical endeavours recording on a tape deck in 1979, taking him on a forty year exploration of sound with no end in sight. Like many of his peers he got involved in music by launching band projects. Not soon after picking up the drums in the early 80s he began incorporating electronics into his drum set up. It was a time when musical machines became much more commonplace and opened up vast realms of possibilities for artists. It didn’t take him long until he replaced himself with rhythm machines and focused on synthesizers, sequencing and production. Bernd has been very prolific as a solo artist and musical collaborator, most notably his seventeen year studio and on-stage partnership with Jaki Liebezeit, former drummer of legendary avant-garde rock group CAN. Under the Drome moniker Friedmann pursued rhythm based dub sounds. Hinterland stems from the 1993 album The Final Corporate Colonization Of The Unconscious released on Wigwam and licensed to Ninja Tone (predecessor of Ninja Tune). This alienating, breathtaking sound collage is the perfect synergy of ambient, triphop and dub textures, electronics capable of expanding the imagination to a nonplace. With Drome and the conceptually similar Nonplace Urban Field Friedmann tried to locate this nonplace, an attempt to preserve the real thing, opposing the commodification of music (and society as a whole) that increasingly defined the 80s.

Rich with FM synthesis, infectious rhythms and evocative motifs, Rester Partir transports us to a fantasised Africa, found onstage at a Lausanne Theatre in 1985. Scoring a story about a 19th Century French missionary’s trip to Timbuktu, Swiss composer Louis Crelier created his own sonic landscape, capturing the exoticism and otherness of an imaginary Mali. Though the hypnotic rhythms and cascading mallets conjure images of the continent, the queasy keys, dubby idents and synthetic sonatas suggest something more interplanetary - picture James T. Kirk and Spock beaming down into the ochre dust of a ruined city. 

Aided and abetted by a selection of ambient interludes, jazzy diversions and polyrhythmic excerpts from Crelier’s film work, as well as the exceptionally Balearic Deep In The Dale from TV series Alpine Academy, the largely unreleased compositions on Rester Partir finally break the fourth wall to find the wider audience they deserve.
