Hot on the heels of his breakthrough ‘Serenade’ and ‘Knife Edge Heart’ 12”s, Ransom Note Records linchpin Timothy Clerkin returned earlier this year with the hotly tipped "Unborn Ep". Comprising four slices of leftfield, rave-infused behemoths, it further added to his growing catalogue of precision-tooled acid anthems. "Insult To Injury" is incredibly excited to announce a remix EP, featuring three variations on the original themes of Unborn EP, from an all-star cast of some of our favourite producers.
First up is style icon, multi-instrumentalist, DJ extraordinaire and mega-producer, Curses. He takes Akathisia on a dubbed out journey via chugging guitars, acidic synth stabs, swirling arpeggios and beyond. This one hits hard!

PREMIERE : Timothy Clerkin - Akathisia (Curses Remix)

The 10th digital release for @DogsandVulturesRecords comes via Mexican producer Alfredo Cardenas aka @2612Montessori in collaboration with the producer, dj and vocalist @Badmoiselle.

There are two originals on the EP 'Aircraft Reel' and 'Fanjoyen', both focused towards the floor . Remixes come from fellow countrymen Rigopolar and Colossio, Italian duo Younger Than Me and French artist @Dombrance.

The latter who is coming hot off the success of his recent album take on 'Aircraft Reel' delivers a killer cut which has an fantastic weirdo break down and kick and is sure to be ripping up many a dance floor.

Höga Nord Rekords have had the opportunity to work with Al Lover twice before during the last four years and now it’s time for the next step in the relationship between them, this time with the 7” single ”Dark Matter Discotheque / Mark E. Moon”. In these tracks, Lover’s influences mainly stems from a decadent eighties New York or Paris and you can almost smell the heavy perfume mixed with indoors smoking get the feeling of sitting in a room with mirror walls.

Right away, listening to the opening bars of ”Dark Matter”, you can tell that Lover is on to something new and different from his previous Höga Nord-releases. In some ways you hear similarities to ”Zodiak Versions” (2015) but on these two tracks of the 7”, Lover has left the German regions of Europe and the 70’s behind to instead embrace an updated 80’s sound. He comments the new direction with these words: ”'I'd say the influences for these tracks was mainly me wanting to do something different then I have before. I'm alwyas on to next idea, becoming bored with what I've already done”.

Juan MacLean and Man Power debut as Juan Power for Life and Death

Life and Death continue to serve up brilliantly unpredictable releases with a new one that brings together American DFA stalwart Juan MacLean with the UK’s Me Me Me label head Man Power, plus an edit from the boss, DJ Tennis. 

Juan MacLean is a multi-faceted artist who has a history of everything from playing in post hardcore bands to producing some of DFA’s most celebrated releases. He does classy house bangers with synth pop and disco layers like no one else. Man Power, meanwhile, is someone who is fantastically eclectic in what he does on all fronts as a DJ, label boss and producer. He’s made corrugated acid, hands in the air house and machine disco and plenty in between on his own label, but also cult outlets like Correspondent and ESP Institute. The coming together of these two undoubted studio wizards, then, is a fascinating prospect. 

And so it proves right from the off: opener ‘Crescendo’ is a nine minute masterpiece with rickety house drums making you move while the shuffling percussion builds the pressure. Gorgeously warm chords eventually join the fray and have a blissful effect that sets you off dreaming and keeps you in a trance until the end. 

DJ Tennis himself then steps up with an edit of ‘Excuse Me Daddy’ that is deep and cavernous. Next to the suspensory pads is an intricate synth line that takes you in on yourself in perfectly melancholic ways. 

Closer ‘Praise The Toad’ then picks up the pace with more live sounding drums and a sparkling lead synth that rises and falls to cosmic effect. Drawn out over the full length of the track, and in amongst some chattery claps and smart effects, it makes for a journey to the stars that will cast a real spell on all who hear it. 

This is an innovative collaboration between two masters of their craft.

There’s no holding back with this killer remix of Komodo’s 'Running To The Sun' by Eric Duncan. Within the first thirty seconds the drums are already rolling in like a build up to an epic John Bonham of Led Zeppelin fame drum solo. And this is key to this remix, the live drum pattern by Rafi Muhammad add an almost infectious groove to an already relentless jacking bass line. Creating a worthy support for stuttering, swirling arpeggios, fluttering acid lines and effects as they pierce through the smoke of a sweating, throbbing dance floor. And if this is still not enough, in come the wonderfully nagging old skool house chords, breaking up the intensity of this rollercoaster of a peak time track, providing a glowing warmth whilst giving off the sentimental feeling of piano laden house music of yesteryear. Inversions returns with an assemblage of miscellanea from the magnetic tape archives of Dunkelziffer and Phantom Band guitarist Dominik Von Senger. Capturing impromptu moments of between the scenes coaction amongst the likes of Reebop Kwaku Baah, Jaki Liebezeit and Dominik himself, to create an animated picture of his communal musical activities at Brüsseler Platz, during a fertile period for underground music and art in Cologne, and exhibit a mosaic of moods, from mirthful to meditative.

Craigie Knowes are a Glasgow based record label who have established themselves as a go-to for any house and electro club-based DJ. Mainly due to the fact each EP is intended for the dancefloor.

The two scots behind the imprint are no strangers to the DJ booth, and are now being booked all over for their heavy hitting no-nonsense mixing, which spans electro, acid and breakbeat – perfect for a crowd of rave thirsty revellers.

The 19th EP from the label is about to drop in all good record stores, and from the consistency of the last 18 releases we already knew what to expect. Dance floor bangers across a variety of genres is what they do best, and the latest release from none other than UK hardcore legend DAWL does not disappoint.

DAWL is the main man behind record label Tone Dropout and fits perfectly with the Craigie Knowes ethos of hard rave music made for the dance floor.

Today we present the fourth track of the release titled ‘Obscure’. The rolling electro track has a bubbling acid bassline which filters in and out to build and drop energy throughout. The rolling snares and off-beat syncopated kicks create swing which is simply irresistible on a large sound system. The track could be used to transition into a different part of a set, it’s that important piece of a puzzle which you could play at any point in the night. This is not one to miss. Go check the EP.

Far away from earth is Seylanide the mysterious planet of the Erkaargs, and its seven moons.
On the first moon, Nuagon, are the infinite oceans. Long time ago the monks living on flying temples wanted to protect their precious island Oramont from local pirates and sea looters. By powerful magic they created a complex mirror reflection system that virtually made the ocean infinite, merging itself to the sky. Thus Oramont was hidden from invaders. But the sorcery was so powerful that the monk themselves never managed to reach the island again.

SYO is the damned prince. Son of Queen Narkelia he was destined to become king of Nuagon. But he fell in love for a gypsy girl who broke his heart, leaving him in tears. He decided to run away from his destiny and from his kingdom, living as an hermit, far in remote dunes in the desert.

In the fitness studio a lycra-clad, sweat band-adorned crowd readied themselves to sweat away the stresses of the day. In single file they made their way into the room, greeted by the loud vibrations reverbarating from the speakers in each corner. The windows of the room slowly began to cloud up as bodies began to writhe around the room, losing control in time to the rhythms of the music. There was never any clock watching during these sessions, this was a different kind of work out.

The second instalment of the Sameheads’ bi-annual compilation series puts the spotlight on the artists who frequent the Berlin-based "bar/club/playground/space/collective/cult/whatever’s musical mavericks". The EP features tracks from An-i, Franz Scala, Alexander Arpeggio & Marlene Stark, Epsilove & Ohlandy, Anklepants and Umlaut! who deliver a bunch of oddball bangers.
