Elpac lurches into the NHS fold with their debut EP, taking form as a selection of four mounds of spasmic drum & bass and dancehall clay. The Pressure Dome affiliated artist captures the essence of his locality – Bristol – through the multiplicity of auditory colours and shapes that define the city’s approach to syncopated, warped electronica eclectica.

The release is fundamentally pacey and pushing, moving in an oddball step along threads of influence with regular moments of transient, oblique leakages. A rich undertone of UK-style sub frequency pervades the collection; the EP is laden with flowing, swelling, pulsing bass that is paired with an unconventional mash of synthesis and percussion.

After diversifying with the release of a couple of tapes over the last few years, BFDM’s little sis — Homemade Soundsystem — returns to what it knows what to do best: a two-track bass-heavy dancehall 7 inch. This one is courtesy of Parisian producer Krikor, who was already behind the outfit’s first release back in 2019. The well named Captivation Riddim starts off as a slow-but-rough compelling tune with haunting and trippy vocal samples creating an adequately driving mood. On the flip, Liberation Riddim is a percussive chopped-up party starter, ideal for changing gears with multiple BPM shifts and breaks throughout the track.
