While discussions around the soulful potential of electronic music are stale to say the least, in @effgee’s productions, the extent to which house music can be imbued with a sense of liveness and vitality is truly apparent.

Number nine of Funnuvojere’s catalogue is signed by label founder Massimiliano Pagliara, and comes as a collaboration with CockTail d’Amore resident Luigi Di Venere. Banana Moon is the name of their duo, an acronym born on a summer night walk in the south of Italy, hinting as well to the legendary 1970s Florentine Rock Club. Delphinium Blue is the title of this debut EP. A flower favoured by Derek Jarman, it evokes feelings of joy and warmth, urging us to open to new experiences. The Italo proto-house Tie Me Up sounds like a demand. An unorthodox arpeggio drives the slinky rhythm, crowded by luxurious vocals flared by cheeky claps.
Breaks, a funky bass and a joyous organ characterize the Chicago neoclassic Full Service, making us the wish for a crowded dance floor under the light of the moon.
On the flip the tittle track Delphinium Blue (Kabuki Mix) is a theatre of sounds inspired by Detroit techno, a genre much esteemed by Banana Moon. This track evokes a sweaty warehouse on fire with hedonistic pleasures. A proud nightingale discusses harmony with a 303 while exquisitely crafted drum patterns build up to a technologic Samba. Closing the EP Polyamory sings to interspecies love, leading us for a swim in the blue depths grasping the tail of a playful whale. While the track’s title dreams of unlimited summer love, this song confirms the duo’s unconditional passion for the Italo groove.

Berghain resident DJ nd_baumecker has been a key voice in house & techno for years. As part of Barker & Baumecker, he has put out essential EPs and LPs on Ostgut Ton. Snax is a musician, singer, songwriter, producer, performer and DJ who brings real character to everything he does, releasing extensively on his Random Records label and many others. The pair have previously teamed up for remixes, bootleg and otherwise, and now expand on that with this inventive release. Says the artist of this new release, “‘Mandemic' sprang from the concept of what it might be like if / when our world’s current situation became eroticised, perhaps even evolving into a queer sex party. The only name for such a party would have to be ‘Mandemic', of course, and Snecker quickly stepped up to deliver its theme song.” It occurred to Snax that he knew another musician friend who would simply love to be on board with this, and that would be none other than Khan, the other half of their disco duo Captain Comatose. Together they provide the lyrical backdrop to this throbbing track for future dark rooms. ‘Mandemic’ is a sexy house tune with bumping drums and rubbery bass. Steamy vocals add intimacy while the pixelated leads lash about the mix next to splashes of acid and plenty of FX. Veteran DJ, songwriter and illustrator Pete Ellison remixes with a more trippy feel. The drums are chunky, and the chords jump about while dripping with naughtiness. Fauve Records boss and lifelong crate digger Romain FX then flips the tune into a stripped-back jack track with a driving bassline. Expressive melodies remain in place to ensure maximum impact on the floor. The second original, 'Things We Got,' is full of flavour from the pulsing bass, the angular drums and sprinkles of cosmic synth. It's warm and humid with an ever-evolving arrangement that keeps you on your toes. ‘Mandemic’ is a typically charming and characterful new take on house music from Freeride Millenium, and once again features striking artwork from Daniel Rajcsanyi.

Futureboogie Recordings is calling time after ten years with a 20-track compilation that sums up the sound of the lovingly curated Bristol label. From throbbing arps and noirish guitar twangs to errant analogue blips and ceaseless, rolling grooves, it’s a different sound to what you might have heard five years back on the Summer Riot IV compilation, and certainly a long way from the early days. Consider Futureboogie 10² an ode to evolution as much as a toast to all the great tracks and the family of artists that have passed through the wide-reaching Futureboogie sphere since before the label was even a sparkle in the disco ball.
 
Originally founded by Dave Harvey and Steve Nickolls, the roots of Futureboogie lie in an intimate Bristol party called Seen. Started in 2002, this open-hearted session invited the likes of Metro Area, Attica Blues, Carl Craig, Maurice Fulton, Moodymann and Gilles Peterson – based on that heavyweight list, you can see the foundations were laid for what was to come. Futureboogie evolved off the back of these parties as a many-limbed operation – an artist management and booking agency as much as a club night, with Harvey and Nickolls consolidating the sound as DJs around Bristol and beyond. The progression to a record label was a logical one.
 
When Futureboogie Recordings launched in 2011 with Julio Bashmore and Javeon McCarthy’s ‘Father Father’, it represented an extended circle of friends close to the label from Bristol’s deep pool of talent and beyond – amongst them Eats Everything, Waifs & Strays, PBR Streetgang, Behling & Simpson and Crazy P. The reach of the label grew in tandem with its reputation, not to mention the endeavours of the team in other areas of the music game. The Boogiefuturo label became a vital entity on its own terms, carrying a lauded DJ Nature remix of Typesun which encapsulates two distinct generations of Bristolian house music at its best. DJ Nature, who cut his teeth as DJ Milo in the Wild Bunch days, has gone on to become a regular feature on Futureboogie, helping define its soulful, adventurous spirit.

Having a preference for various styles and influencenes from electronic music, Utrecht-based artist Tifra belts out an art:cast that deserves to be called special. With releases on Gestalt Records, Snippets and Rough Recordings Tim, Tifra's real name, can already look back at a delicate discography on respected respectively renowned labels and has made a name of his own in the scene. His art:cast depicts the artist's musical versatility guiding the listener from Balearic vibes to Electro-touched tracks to finally sprinkle some Acid-magic into the (sound) spectrum after. For sure Tifra knows his DJ-craft and blends what belongs together to a coherent approach that outlives the moment as he has latter on his side.

@siferrecords launches its journey with “Hijaz Landing,” the debut release from label founder @sinanabdelmoati This EP invites listeners on a voyage through new grooves, ancient scales, and empowering melodic stories, setting the stage for a label rooted in tradition yet always exploring new horizons.

Hijaz Landing
The title track pulses with dark, energetic momentum, weaving together techy grooves and hypnotic tribal percussion. Mysterious melodies float above, drawing on the evocative Hijaz scale, while the arrangement is electrified by fleeting, almost aerial sonic textures. The inspiration of the title comes from a sense of landing in a new ancient place, a sonic arrival guided by rhythm and ancestral echoes.

Champion
“Champion” flips the mood, bringing uplift and empowerment to the dance floor. Its euphoria swells atop a roaring bassline, with lush, melodic lines designed to fill listeners with strength and a sense of possibility. The track’s bright, driving character encapsulates the spirit of overcoming and triumph.
