Locard's principle holds that the perpetrator of a crime will bring something into the crime scene and leave with something from it, and both can be used as forensic evidence… an insight freighted with more than forensic significance. The ghost that pushes down: Vivid, terrifying dreams of REM sleep can spill  into wakefulness: sleep paralysis,  a nightmare with eyes wide open. Hallucinations create a menacing intruder, a human-like shadowy figure approaching the sleeper, which sits on the sleeper’s chest and suffocates them. In Turkish culture this sleep-demon is called Karabasan.

The seance at Bircham Newton aerodrome, 1980. A WW2 era base in rural Norfolk,  investigated extensively for psychic phenomena prior to its destruction, most notably in a disused squash court where “ghostly” sounds were recorded when the building was securely locked. The confused, scared voice heard here, allegedly channeled by medium Jack Sutton in trance, identifies itself as that of a dead airman, apparently seeking aid on behalf of himself and his crew, still seeking safe landing from a sortie mounted four decades before…
