The Marathon was a roller skating rink annex dance venue in the Dutch city of The Hague, which was set up in the late 1940s by the Ooms family at the end of the De Savornin Lohmanlaan, and at the foot and behind the dunes of The Hague. In The Hague, for example, there was a roller skate hockey rink in the Zuiderpark and one at the end of the Leyweg where the Q65 often performed (the Eekhoorn).

The Golden Earrings often performed in the Marathon. The Marathon was their home base. In 1972 the Marathon moved to the Wijndaelerweg (Ockenburg). There it kept the name Marathon until the second half of the nineties. Then the then owner (Frans Winterswijk) stopped it. It was briefly called Dance Parliament.

Not long after Winterswijk rented it out to the previous owners of discotheque Asta, Winodj and Kevin. They renovated the tent and called it Intenz. When this also came to an end, Coen Bom and Rob Velders (the other operators of the Asta) stepped in. Under the name '«O»', the discotheque continued as a dance club on the Wijndaelerweg, although many continued to describe the '«O»' as "the former Marathon" for many years.

After the '«O»', the existence of the disco on the Wijndaelerweg became somewhat unclear. As Celebration Studios, it became more of a party rental business. In 2005, the property was renamed Fantasy Dance Theater. After the bankruptcy in 2006, there were two attempts to squat the building. Since 3 January 2009, the building has been inhabited by Rotterdam squatters. The building was demolished in April/May 2016.

This is the first installment of a series of Gatecrasher inspired Classic Trance mixes. Gatecrasher to me personally marked the beginning of a long journey into the very deepest echelons of the genre of Dance music. 
From listening to one of my mates' CD compilations through one earphone that I was sharing of his, I was hooked on this new kind of sound I had never heard before. After hearing this I then was made aware that this was a new movement of House and Trance music, and so I had to immerse myself in the best club experience, that I have still to this day, experienced in my life. There really is no way of being able to recreate those days in the Republic, other than gaining pure nostalgia from the treasured tracks that still stand strong today. I hope you enjoy this 2 hours plus and the future Gatecrasher Experiences mixes I will be recording.
