GEoRGiA is the moniker of London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist, Georgia Barnes. 

Her debut EP 'Come In' - written and recorded entirely by herself in her home studio - is out now physically on 12" vinyl and digitally through Kaya Kaya.
 
GEoRGiA cut her teeth drumming with Kwes and can also be found playing with Kate Tempest and Kaya Kaya co-founder Cherish’s band, JUCE.

‘Umi’ – first single to be taken from ‘Everything Else Matters’ due out in January.

Pinkshinyultrablast, are a five-piece band from Saint-Petersburg in Russia. The first single ‘Umi’ is due for release on November 10th. The song is indicative of an album full of melodic gems. Umi is rich with complexity, while underpinned with a beauty that both beguiles and entrances. The song evokes the spirit of bands like Slowdive and The Cocteau Twins, but at the same time remaining undeniably modern.

Hailing from a city more synonymous with the State Conservatory rather than a gang of shoegaze addicts, they’ve been compared to Lush. But this is no mere throwback tribute - due to their sharp, icy electronics and ability to subvert the genre, bringing something new to the table. They possess not only the spirit of late 80s/early 90s British bands like Ride, but also machine-made sounds of the same era from Sabres Of Paradise or Global Communication, not to mention wider vibrations like Cluster, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley and Philip Glass.

Disdain for a stagnant scene can often be a driving force of creativity; the band say of St Petersburg that, “we realised the local indie scene was totally boring and wanted to play something radically different”. That vision has been realised – this is a sound brimming with playful melody and finely-crafted songwriting. Imagine the scope of a Caribou record, fronted by Elizabeth Fraser soundtracking a grizzly Raskolnikov crime.

The band take their name from an Astrobrite album, an act who were, according to the band, instrumental in how they “researched spaces between ambient, heavy guitar and pop music” .The spaces are what stand out, the production creates a dream-like affair, while space to breathe and reflect on the beauty of the music is accommodated. There exists a sparseness to their sound, that, in turn gives spaciousness, even expansiveness.

As well as a streamlining of the band’s name (dropping the “Real Zombie” part of their previous
moniker), there’s been a conscious effort to tighten up Fake Shark’s musical centre.  While the new LP may have settled into a groove-heavy indie rock vibe, it still crackles with the
touchstones and foundation of their musical catalogue - original concepts, cutting lyrics, and a plethora of interesting voices.  Guest performers include indie-folk darling Hannah Georgas, R&B singer/songwriter Tonye Aganaba, Kate Kurdyak (of Vancouver’s The Katherines), as well as legendary rapper KOOL KEITH, who takes lead vocals on a track called “The Real Zombie”.

PRESS RELEASE
Where 'Reticence' was all primordial clang and clatter, recalling the best moments of early '80s no wave and its forerunners - think Glenn Branca and Rhys Chatham's respective guitar ensembles - bookending one of the most immediate, accessible songs the band have ever written at its core, 'A Hunger Artist' is an altogether more colossal and meandering beast.

While its chiming guitar introduction might again bear passing resemblance to Branca's deft melodic interplay, its much quicker to cut to the chase. And what a chase it is: leading you over moonlit autobahns and down dark European back alleys. Drawing to mind Neu! and Roxy-era Eno, the Northern Irish quartet lay down a motorik groove that rarely lets up across its almost six-minute runtime, allowing gossamer synths and insistent bass to dance atop with aplomb.

Alongside this, the band are set to return to London for a one-off show this October (the 19th) at the historic 100 Club: a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see Arms Around a Vision brought to stunning life in the live setting.
