A legend says a tiny baby basket was coming down the Guadalquivir river, inside a little one surrounded by cassette-tapes, a black cap and booties with phosphorescent ties. That fable was extended to 135bpm up to the present day, that little ‘angel’ was none other than Brunetto.

Musician, composer, DJ and music journalist born in Seville but based in Barcelona city whose passion for music far exceeds that one by Tim Burton for skinny and pallid face characters. Artist developed in the broken beats school, which has continued throughout its evolution without removing ear. Since that 80’s funky-rap going through the trip hop, 90’s rockist UK big beats, to post-dubstep, IDM or present furure bass. Eclectic and connoisseur of the most important, what is in front of him, the audience! Same is able to keep busy a jammed floor with a blast of super danceable electronic music, than dazzle it with subtle sounds and textures. Multiskilling boy who equally loves Orbital, Kavinsky, Dust Brothers and Boards of Canada.

We could bore up even an oyster listing all the events and Fests where have been playing. To name a few: Sónar, Move, Klubbers Day, Space of Sound, Territorios, Electroshock, Observatori, etc. Coordinated music for massive Nokia, Red Bull or Suzuki events. It has also left the imprint of his Adidas by countries like Canada, Germany or France.

As for his work as a musician, we take a breath and summarize… 3 solo albums released (“Déjalo así Bru”, “Homeself” y “B+”), the fourth -”Sheroine”- is set to be released on Irregular imprint in April, 2014. First song from this new LP is “Evergreen” featuring I AM DIVE. Add to the solo albums soundtracks for documentaries (“La casa de las sirenas”, “El fantasma de los deseos”…), music for commercials (“SAS”, “Pezqueñines”, “Barbadillos”, “Ikea”, “Baumann”, “Casio Exilim Lab”…), interactive books (“Guía de buceo de la Isla del Hierro y Tenerife”, “César redivido”), and remixed artists like Pulshar, The Suicide Of Western Culture, Nomadic Firs, Lasers, Anika Sade … To don’t forget his very first band, Bockors (1997-2000) a sensation in Spain in that time, opening for bands like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Lunatic Calm or Junkie XL.

He feels akin to artists like mentioned Boards of Canada, U.N.K.L.E, Death In Vegas, Trent Reznor, Trentemoller, Mondkopf, Agent Provocateur, WARP and Anticon labels, Chopin, Badalamenti or Vangelis.

1st single extracted from the forthcoming Boreals "Antípodas" debut album due to be released in October, 24th on Irregular label. 

BOREALS
The surprisingly young, Barcelona-based trio Boreals –ages 21 and 22-, is one of those stories touched by the magical wand of diligent good taste. A band from which we were all anxiously waiting for a debut album, after gems such as “Rome EP” and “Grecia EP”. 

With barely a good handful of songs (“Luciérnagas”, “Desde un mirador”, just to name a few…) and many live shows –those that manage to hook even the most experienced (Primavera Sound, Demoscópica / Mondosonoro, Artenou, etc)– Canadian brothers Victor and Xavier Paradis with Miquel Serra, hailing from Mallorca, have constantly been at the tip of everyone’s tongue. What started as one of the “best kept secrets of Barcelona”, a medal coined both by Joan S. Luna (Mondosonoro) and Paste Magazine (USA), is now ready to make the big step that an LP represents. 

The debut by Boreals is called “Antípodas”, an album edited by Irregular (record label and home to The Suicide Of Western Culture, Lasers, Fernando Lagreca…) and is composed by 9 songs. These kids keep imbuing their music with genres like IDM, spacey pop and visceral post-rock.

Brunetto's new album is set to be released in 2014 on Irregular label. The album will be entitled "Sheroine" (invented word to reflect his particular tribute to the heroines of comics). First single to be released is "Evergreen" that features vocals by I AM DIVE ("Ghostwoods" Foehn Records, 2012). 

Born in Seville Brunetto have been since 2006 based in Barcelona mostly developing his PR and Communications career. After sporadic remixes (The Suicide of Western Culture,Bomb the Bass, Lasers, Nomadic Firs) or some original score ("Unlocker", "Baumann") he finally decided to return to the difficult task of a long play.

"Sheroine" will be a record hybridised at its core, where pop songs gradually intertwine with electronic beats, bittersweet atmospheres, IDM or finally fueled with hip hop music values.

“Kidult” proves to be an emotional and sonic tour de force equal in nature. For this track, Brunetto pushes us into synthpop/new disco territory, where we can be just as comfortable dancing amidst the smoke and the strobe lights or basking in the sounds with a glass of wine in one hand. It doesn’t hurt that the track benefits from main synth lines and vocals provided by Fede Weiss (ex- Anika Sade).

While recording and composing “Sheroine”, Brunetto took inspiration from the genres that have remained close to his heart along his years as a multifaceted artist, hence the constant presence of 90’s UK Hard Hop, break beats, ambient pop, IDM, avant-rock and the current wave of hip hop crossovers. He flows through all of these influences seamlessly, to create an album as diverse, danceable and thought-inducing that pays homage to the genres he loves, while bringing mew elements to the table.

Barcelona’s producer Omega dB (Adrián Gázquez) – whose credo is “Life is ephemeral but music is eternal” – releases his mini album Utopian Reality this week via the Spanish imprint Sofa Tunes, heavily invested in quality music and visuals.

Four original tracks together with two remixes by the fellow Spanish producers Brunetto and Skygaze result in a communal experimental EP, with influences from dub, techno, left-field, and melodic nostalgia.

Listen to the dubby take on “Perpetual”, re-imagined by Brunetto as avant-garde chamber music.

Des Âmes Libres use a lot of technology but in a not predictable way. There is an important search of humanization of all the material used to build their songs. From analogue devices to virtual instruments, they try to leave their original print in every sound. Together with these tools, more conventional instruments like the guitar and the electric bass are used to create the dense, claustrophobic, heavy atmospheres that characterises their music.

On that basis, Des Âmes Libres have also carefully chosen their “remixers”. This is why, on this compilation that revisits a bunch of their songs, we can find a wide range of artists who get a new and difference vision out of the Des Âmes Libres’s field of action: from the “accessibility” of Fernando Lagreca or Brunetto to the noisy experimentation of Jose + or Tiger Menja Zebra.

“Remixes” includes a big catalogue of the most flourish artists in the Spanish electronic scene. Their goal: to enhance the already contagious Des Âmes Libres music. And they succeed. “Remixes” is more than a typical remixes compilation in itself. And the remixes themselves are much more than the habitual manufactured rehash product.

John Vermont drops his second single “Sunday Afternoon” jamming with the hotly tipped infamous UK funky, footwork and future garage duo BSN Posse.

“Sunday Afternoon” is an exciting romance where the talented soul vocalist and songwriter joins forces with the no less gifted couple of beat-makers (keep in mind their highly acclaimed LP “Forever” released via Slime Recordings on 2015). The stars align perfectly on this track resulting of a solid sound recipe, a quirky joy with some of John’s most heart-on sleeve lyrics. 
You can’t deny the subtle hip-hop / trap influenced liquid beats of “Sunday Afternoon” underneath John’s hypnotising voice. A flotation experience that moves from the R&B territory gazing some recent classics like Deptford Goth or Chet Faker, and not so classics, Al Green or Curtis Mayfield to name a couple, into what seems to be a blissful mutation of jazz, electronic rhythms and addictive urban grooves.

This track is melodic, lyrical, and accessible. Beautiful and highly infectious, this one will be on repeat!

Here at Irregular, the number 13 is far from unlucky. In fact, when like artist Brunetto, you have a “license to beat” that number is rather a cause for excitement and positivity. That’s because the 13th release on the label is the cleverly named new EP from Brunetto who has returned to ‘beat you with his beats’.

The Sevillian artist is back to show off his musical weapons with two unreleased tracks: the previously mentioned “License to Beat” & “Air Pistol”. These new tracks bring you skittering beats bubbling into vibrant ambient music. With every second the multi-layered songs reveal desperate guitars, striking baselines, atmospherically warped synths and bizarre glockenspiel arrangements. Loosely structured, strange and magnetic.

Time for the remixes. Pulshar remain loyal to their unique modern dub sound, adding on this one sexy-ass sub bass line. Inspired tempo exchange of organic house and gentle dubstep. While the French artist Sevenfive transmits on his remix his love for granular synths, deep baselines and intelligent house music.

Warning: Brunetto announces new album (the 4th in his career) for next 2013. Few details have been revealed, only that the album will include at least 10 songs with some surprising features and will be dedicated to the hottest comic-books heroines.

Se terminó eso de pensar que el nº 13 es sinónimo de mala suerte. Más aún cuando tienes “licencia para ganar”. Comenzar a sentir positividad no es un pecado y coincidencia o no, ese es el título para este nuevo trabajo de Brunetto.

Este sevillano regresa al candelero mostrando los dientes con un par de singles inéditos: el que da título al EP “License to Beat” y “Air Pistol”. Ritmos burbujeantes envueltos en papel ambiental. Una buena colección de capas, guitarras irritadas, líneas de bajo hirientes, sintes atmosféricos, pinceladas de glockenspiel deformado… Las estructuras: libres, extrañas y magnéticas.

Los remixes. Pulshar permanecen fieles a su particular y moderno sonido dub. No faltan esta vez sub-bajos jodidamente sensuales. Inspirado también el tempo cambiante entre house orgánico y manso dubstep. Por otro lado el francés Sevenfive nos trasmite en su remix el amor por los sintes granulares, los bajos profundos y el house inteligente.

Advertencia: Brunetto nos revela que editará nuevo álbum en 2013 (el 4º en su haber). No nos ha soltado mucha prenda, tan sólo que incluirá al menos 10 canciones y que constará con alguna participación muy especial. ¡Ah! Y que estará dedicado a las heroínas más “power” de la historia del comic.
