It may not seem to make sense on the surface, but look deeper and you’ll see the mutual interests around the labels Casa Caos and Shango Records. And since crises like the Covid-19 pandemic highlight the importante of collaboration, we’ve been working on something together: a cross-label remixes EP. Now we’re delighted to present you the second part of the collaboration with our Greek friends at Shango Records. 'Casa Caos b2b Shango EP vol.2' is a six-track remixes EP crafted carefully by Casa Caos artists for classic tracks of Shango's catalogue. The hybrid-label EP adds the unheard psychedelic places-never-been-before music by Shango to the slow contaminated high-flying Casa Caos' catalogue. Cross-cutting perspectives and curatorships, the project brings together similar intentions through the exchange of experiences and artists from both labels.

During rather dark and isolated times, Yotah and Voichek gathered in a small bassement to consult about their longtime love for downtempo techno. Soon they found themselfs spending countless hours in said place, often losing track of time and space, while taking their own approach on slow but yet energetic dance music, adding some dubby elements aswell. During this time they were able to learn quite a lot about music and how they could produce it, dealing with technical challenges and how they could manage to work in close collaboration while growing and thus changing as individuals aswell. Cut a rug EP presents the beginning of a deep friendship and an ever inspiring journey through sound and time.

​​In between all the elements Science has already charted and discovered, there are still many we have not yet identified. Nature, and the universe for that matter, still hides many concepts that we have not yet visited or studied, and there exist combinations of those concepts and elements that we haven’t yet explored. In a sense, this work is an ode to that unknown, a fusion of elements from different time periods and places, but that live chemically bound by musical space and time because of the foundations they share, and when put together, create uncharted elements.

​​ the power of collaboration is on full display in this superb set of songs by Portuguese artists Pedro Martins (@pedro-martins-music) and Tempura the Purple Boy(@purpletempura). Each track holds a unique space which then swerves and unfolds in so many surprising and pleasing ways. Calling on influences and reveries of many tastes and times, from dark and gritty downtempo to early 90’s atmospheric jungle. One can sense the symbiosis that was present in the studio. Pedro’s experience as a producer, studio engineer, DJ and manager of Karakter Records and Tempura’s musical and compositional background was a strong and organic mesh, with Tempura laying down grooves and melodies and Pedro building on aesthetics and overall sound.

​​In the end, every new piece of art is laid on top of a foundation of influences. Yet this record shines unique, in it’s masterful fusion of those origins.

​​Re-envisioned by 3 artists of massive talent and promise, the remixes fully live up to the quality found in the originals. All of these artists making their debuts on Random Collective. Nada (@nadaninadienunca) with his dark, atmospheric and extremely compelling remix of Hall of Mirrors. Daniel Hokum (@danielhokum) concocted a bouncy cut of the same original that is both stripped down and twisted up. Finally, @katabtu caps the EP with an incredibly dreamy and sway inducing rendition of Seismic Activity which he clearly put his soul into, along with a riveting vocal part.

Have you ever gotten lost in thoughts and dreams while gazing at the night sky? Those celestial bodies sparkling in the deep dark blue have caught our attention and driven intrepid explorations since the dawn of time. The mysterious immensity surrounding our beautiful little planet has always stimulated our fantasies: scientists and philosophers have found challenges in it, while artists have found nourishment for their creativity. Our talented friend mUnO seems to fall in the latter category, since he told us that astronomy, the night sky and the concept of infinity itself, serves as the inspiration to create ‘cosmic soup’, which is the way he describes his own sound. mUnO is the borderless project in constant evolution, launched in 2015 by Gonzalo Urtizberea, also known as Gurtz and 1/2 of Kermesse. Gurtz formed mUnO as a way to express himself without stylistic constraints and to experiment with new instruments and samples. His latest EP, Mareas, meaning ‘tides’ in Spanish, includes two enchantingly melodic original tracks and four lively vibrant remixes by none other than Lagartijeando, Vruno, Betelgeize, and Señora. The beautifully diverse styles brought by these incredible artists blend perfectly with the motifs of the originals, adding some spicy beats to the cosmic soup. The nature of the arts is one of those ancient enigmas which keeps thoughtful minds constantly philosophizing on its power. The mystery of art is deepened by the fact that inspiration can burst at anytime; any sound or fleeting glance can trigger a masterpiece. How can that be explained? We don’t know, and maybe we never will, but what matters to us is tending to that inspiration, and the conditions in which it thrives. This is the story of MA, the latest EP by Batu Ozer, which we are happy to bring to our listeners today. Old recordings of saz or string instruments resembling long-necked lutes, triggered the creative genius of the artist, and five new aural gems were the result.
The title of the album means “water” in ancient Turkish language. Its sonorities and motives evoke the elegance and preciousness of the old Anatolian history. Sounds of spilling water remind us of the fountains found in the courtyards and gardens of gilded palaces. Gentle choirs blend with lutes and finger percussion, effectively transporting us to the public intimacy of the ‘Arfana’: the public musical gatherings of the old times. All of the artist’s productions reflect this ancient beauty, which skillfully revisits and elaborates with electronic effects, resulting in a timeless weave of antiquity and modernity.
