Acid Morning

Intergalactic Gary has been one of our favorite DJs for many years, as his genre transcendence aligns perfectly with IT’s vision. This set was recorded in a very special circumstance, at Tresor 313, May 25, 2024 at the Tangent Gallery on Day 1 of Return to the Source. Originally scheduled for 2 hours, it naturally extended to almost 4 hours, which is the kind of thing that is possible at this party when just the right chemistry happens.

We had Intergalactic Gary on directly after the Model 500 live show in the Gallery, the room was already on fire. When he came on he totally captivated the room, the energy was palpable as he effortlessly went from all sorts of variants of techno and house and the raw essence of what makes them – from Italo disco to early Chicago and forms of electro, culminating in his effortless presentation of the timeless sublime jam “Amenity” by Link, a peak experience for everyone present. This kind of perspective on music is really elucidating and liberating, and made for one of the most memorable sets of the weekend – delivered by a true cult hero.

For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.

Haruka x Craig Gonzalez opened the Dance Room at I.T. presents The Bunker, May 26, 2025, Day 3 of Return to the Source, at Tangent, Detroit.

It's one thing to hop on the decks with someone during peak time at a party in a packed room like the first time Haruka and I played together in NYC but it's another to open a party during the last leg of RTTS weekend. So we started talking about the set a couple of months beforehand, but nothing really prepares you until you're in the middle of RTTS weekend itself. We were texting and chatting about the setup and direction throughout the weekend and eventually landed on keeping things a little funky and fun.  Playing with someone with a similar approach to DJing and also range really made the set feel so effortless for me and I feel that cohesion and the fun we had translated quite well to those that were in attendance.

We were both booked to play a Bunker party that night and with an hour left before our room was about to shut down, I asked Craig to jump on for an unplanned B2B.  Craig had already set the room up with a deep, super-diverse selection and then vibe in our room was so good, I will never forgot it. So when IT asked us to do it again we got hyped.

RTTS, Detroit
Our slot opened the last day of the three-day marathon, and other parties were running in the daytime too, so it felt like one long 72-hour session. Craig also played Movement. It was my first time in Detroit, so I wandered around, popped into a bunch of events, but spent every night back at Tangent Gallery with Craig—talking, listening to other artists, and getting a real feel for the room. That helped us lock in the vibe and refine the ideas we’d been tossing around for months.

The set
Two words kept coming up: funky and fun (maybe sexy too). I played only a few recent tracks but most were older finds with some electro slipped in naturally. In hindsight the whole thing was a back-and-forth between electro and deep, psychedelic techno, with extra flavours layered on top.

“NWB, being more than just the sum of its parts, always reflects my current life state(or lack of) and this year was no different. My friend Zach reminded me of this ultra-special cut by Arthur Russell: “In the Light of the Miracle.” It’s one of those holy grails and this mix (by Danny Krivit & Tony Smith) only existed as unreleased Talking’ Loud promo until a Soul Jazz comp finally issued it properly in 2005. I used to run it occasionally some 20 years ago, but hearing it again left me shook and set the stage for my entire set. And the rest of my life. My partner Ellen and I learned we were pregnant that same weekend.

Completely overwhelmed, I felt like I just wanted to share music for folks like I do in my own living room. Not really as a mix, but an intimate family affair. In the wee hours of the morning when I finally decided to share Russell’s opus, Ellen joined me on stage. We embraced and cried as we saw all our friends dancing in a now sunlit room.

For our next installment of the AYLI podcast, we’re honored to bring you Berlin based, British born, Tanstaafl Records label-head John Osborn. He made his North America debut for us in 2012 alongside 2562 at the Beatbox, followed that morning by a 6 AM session at the legendary 222 Hyde.

We first discovered Osborn through his August ’10 Mnml Ssg podcast. It’s still a favorite of ours and helped to define our sound. John shared with us one of our earliest AYLI podcasts. It’s rare that we release second podcasts from artists and even rarer for us to release a podcast without an upcoming planned performance. However, when the opportunity came to release his second AYLI podcast, we jumped at it. Take a moment to dig into this special “after-hours” session. Quality.

High Expectations’ is the first single from Xenia Beliayeva's forthcoming artist album ‚Riss‘.
The long awaited- and highly anticipated follow up to her 2010 debut LP 'Ever Since' which appeared on T. Raumschmiere's Shitkatapult label.

The industry veteran has built up an impressive discography, releasing her music on labels like Datapunk, Different, Systematic and Einmusika to name a few and collaborating with artists such as Dubfire, Oliver Huntemann, Miss Kittin and Marc DePulse.

Her devotees are not only hailing from electronic club land but feeling at home in the darker, kind of goth-flavored areas as well as in synth- and non-mainstream pop.
Areas Xenia Beliayeva is not afraid of to explore which you can clearly hear while listening to 'High Expectations', which sounds retro poppy- and sophisticated electronic at the same time.

On remix duties we see Sid Le Rock who delights us with a dark, gritty and moody interpretation of 'Noir', one of the songs that will be featured on the forthcoming album.
The Canadian artist hardly needs introduction with his previous work for Kompakt, Mute, Areal, Beachcoma and My Favorite Robot. So you know what to expect!

'High Expectations' is the first of two singles that will be released before the 'Riss' album will see the light of day in March 2018. Keep an eye out- and an ear open for it!

Way Back in Detroit 2018, always one of the highlights of 313: Return to
the Source. It has become a sort of annual tradition to have him close
the party, as he balances the light with the dark in such an effortless
way. As he played “The Climax” I remember the feeling in the crowd, it
was magic. This set is directly after Derek Plaslaiko had finished playing
and an impromptu tag team ensued. This set presented here is Mike
Servito solo, killing it as he always does.
