Sard - Live Set at Great Beyond '24

There’s nothing like playing No Way Back. It’s such a unique environment. All the DJs look forward to their set all year, but then low key freak out before they play. Will they live up to expectations? Will they surpass their previous sets? You ask yourself, is this what feels like to throw lightning? You can sense the room expand and contract. Connecting to the audience and taking them on our journey is what it is all about. For this adventure I played on 4x CDJ-3000’s, a Pioneer V10 using 2 internal delays and a Strymon El Capistan pedal. I played some new tunes I had remastered, as well as a remix from Love Letters I had just completed on my new mixer, along with an edit of an unreleased version of Jordan Zawideh’s “Magellanic Cloud”, also mastered through my new mixer. What an amazing space to test these new tones. This was quite a sonic journey for me, and put me on an amazing trajectory where I feel like I’m constantly growing and improving and adding newly remastered music to every set. Looking forward to playing this coming weekend at No Way Back in NYC with the Bunker at the Chocolate Factory.

Patrick Russell is a true veteran of the US underground, perhaps one of the last unsung heroes of a now lost era in the Midwest. A genuine sonic storyteller, he magically transforms the diaspora of acid, pure jack energy, and hints of IDM into a deep, fluent sonic dialog that never fails to devastate both minds and dance floor.

A Detroit-bred DJ, artist, and producer active since the early 90's, Patrick has now made New York City his home. Perhaps best known as a key figure in the legendary No Way Back parties, his ability to weave intensely unique, long-format narratives has earned him critical acclaim and repeat performances at Japan’s Labyrinth festival, Berghain, Unsound, and DEMF/Movement. Patrick has also been steadily building a strong catalog of high-profile productions to compliment his increasingly varied, hypnotic, and in-demand DJ sets; his recent 3-track remix EP on The Bunker New York also marks his induction as an official resident DJ at the long-running Brooklyn party.

His consummate taste and disciplined execution have created a respect that cannot be purchased. Patrick Russell is not just a name to watch, he is someone to be experienced.

Mozhgan: Iranian born but California based Artist/DJ Mozhgan has been honing her dark arts on the decks for quite some time. In 2011 she started "We Are Monsters," a party to develop her passion for
contemporary, dark, and mysterious dance floor sounds.
Mozhgan is a sonic alchemist who’s musical languages traverse between mysterious planes and wondrous vortexes. Her singular technique focuses on uncanny juxtapositions of sound that seamlessly unify and project spiritual light, creating luminous pronunciations that voyage deep into the shadowy spaces of the subconscious. As an acolyte of the acidic temple, and founder of the We are Monsters gatherings, Mozhgan fearlessly confronts the onstricting limits of the status quo while simultaneously rejecting them with arcane spells that defy time and space.
By projecting hypnotic sound waves that rupture the mundane, her cosmic utterances permit extraterrestrial passages that venture beyond the tranquil pathways of familiarity.

Solar: It’s easy to avoid tired tropes when talking about Solar. The typical cheeky embellishment of an artist biography is simply unnecessary in this case.
He’s been a prime player across several decades of the Bay Area’s underground dance music timeline. He’s an experienced, skilled, and creative selector - one who makes the well-worn quip of a "DJ’s DJ" seem pithy and redundant. As a part of Sunset Sound System, he and his partners have peppered California and beyond with 25 years of thoughtfully conceived and carefully crafted events, chief among them the delightful and dreamy Sunset Campout. He presents spacey, tough, intuitive, and often psychedelic music to the universe via his (and C.L.A.W.S.) label, Squirrels On Film. He’s delivered focused and inspired mixes to myriad curatorial collaborators including Dekmantel, Resident Advisor, Boiler Room, and Rush Hour.
Most of all, though, he’s a person of passion, consistency, dedication, and skill who can make your party a better place by sharing his spirit, creativity, and vision.

An unexpected sequel, exploring the same records and moods as a previous recording in Beijing. This is taken from a recent show for Nurture x Liminal Dreams at The Observatory in Saigon. The plan had been a full spectrum set, but the energy did not feel right. Instead, I decided to play warm and comforting beats, focusing on my musical 'childhood', records from the late 90s - mid 00s. The mixing and presentation is meant to be gentle and relaxing. Enjoy.

Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

This mix is a studio recording rather than a live set from an IT event because I feel that this style of music requires a more intentional approach to the context of an event. It hasn’t quite aligned with the atmosphere of my time slots—at least, not for now." — Craig Gonzalez @craig-gonzalez

We're back with a recently decrypted transmission from the far reaches of outer space. These three W3C tracks have been floating undiscovered for nearly a decade, only now resurfacing — fully remastered for your listening pleasure.

First up is "WarTek", a collaboration with the legendary Latvian beatmaker & producer Oriole. The track is a bold re-imagining of '90s Hardcore — a relentless belter driven by pounding kicks, a nasty bassline, and snares so sharp they will leave you reeling. It goes hard, and it knows it!

Next, you've got to watch out— a devious cyborg serpent is on the prowl, and you're its ideal prey. "Mecharattler" insidiously lures you in with hypnotic, rattling percussion and atmospheric hissing before ambushing you with earth-shattering kicks and ice-cold bass stabs. This twisted creation is a collaboration with Tatradang, so you better watch out for that guy!

Finally, what was once a beautiful ballad by W3C and Body Double seems to have been corrupted by an artificial bacteria of their own making. The intricate melodies have vanished, replaced by mechanical chittering and surgically sharp yet twisted bass detonations. The result is "Contamination" — a more industrial spin on the cold, abrasive grime instrumentals of years past.
