CALIFORNIA DREAMING-Mama's and the Papa's cover lyric here

I woke up one morning last week with the first line of this song in my head. I'm not sure why, but the image of a 'puddle of moonbeams' seeping in through a crack in the window tickled me, and the rest of the lyrics are basically me squeezing the remaining juice out of that initial idea.

Big thanks to @gm7 for bringing the Steve Cropper/BB King vibes on the lead guitar - it really adds an extra layer of gloss on the final track!

(PS. Couldn't resist the little nod to 'Oh! Darling' in the chorus turnarounds.)

"Alice Blue Gown" is a comedic ode to a worn but beloved silk dress from the hit 1919 musical "Irene" by James Montgomery. The music is by Harry Tierney, and the lyrics are by Joseph McCarthy.

Corinne Becknell Lucas [@CorinneBL] performs the lead vocal in a wry comic style. Production by @MLucas.

We used OMR to extract the instrumental parts from printed music dated 1922. This recording hews closely to the original text and aims to evoke a live performance in a piano parlor somewhere in early 20th century America.

"Alice Blue Gown" was inspired by the signature blue gown of presidential daughter and longtime Washington DC socialite, Alice Roosevelt Longworth -- depicted here in a 1902 photograph from the Library of Congress, and colorized to suggest the pale shade of azure she favored.

Many versions have been recorded -- first a warbling soprano by Edith Day, then a classic Hollywood rendition by Judy Garland, later the McGarrigles gave it a noteworthy treatment.
