Last Friday marked an exciting milestone for our burgeoning record label, Never Late. We proudly unveiled the inaugural chapter of our musical journey, an awe-inspiring masterpiece brought to life by none other than one of our imprint's co-founders, the illustrious Griff Fulton, known to many as Aspetuck. As we embark on this exciting venture, each forthcoming release will be accompanied by a tantalizing blend of music, an intimate interview, and an exploration into the creative realms of the artists who will be the torchbearers of Never Late.

While it's admittedly challenging to remain entirely objective about this first mix, we can confidently say that it showcases Aspetuck's most refined work behind the decks to date. This mix is a masterclass in balance, serving as an ideal sonic bridge from day into night, perfectly tailored for an unforgettable party experience. The initial segment gracefully explores the realms of stylish, deep, and melodic house, punctuated by enchanting breaks that evolve midway through the journey into a groovy, intricate tapestry of tribalistic late-night rhythms.

We couldn't have dreamt of a more fitting inception for our Never Late saga. We’re all seeing it: attention spans are shrinking. Podcasts rarely stretch past an hour, and event sets often cap at two. But there’s something to be said for the longer journey, a three-hour mix that pulls you in, letting you sink into the groove and lose yourself in the unfolding narrative. That’s what this week’s guest mix brings to the table.

Romi, the visionary behind Kizen Records, has crafted an expansive set that traverses multiple facets of electronic music. A seasoned artist and world traveler now based in Berlin, Romi has spent over two decades creating atmospheric depths with an effortless touch, both in the studio and behind the decks.

This 173-minute mix is a slow burn. It starts off subtle, almost deceptively straightforward, gradually building layers of tension and intrigue. Along the way, you’ll encounter atmospheric, organic, and intergalactic soundscapes that morph into driving, liquid intensity. This is an evolving storyline that pulls you deeper the longer you listen.

As the days grow shorter & the leaves begin to turn, we find ourselves looking inwards, preparing our minds for the beautiful yet harsh cold winter months ahead. There is a particular awareness of the present moment during these transitions from season to season, as cooler weather gently makes its way to the New York area. I certainly find myself seeking out music that is more introspective & comforting during these fall months, something to accompany a long walk through the woods or a drive through the morning fog. 

Dutch producer Tensen Park - the newest member of our Never Late family - presents us with an ethereal hour-long journey through some of his current favorites & musical influences. It is a mix crafted for these moments of seasonal transition. "I wanted to make it a bit of a trip" he said, "starting with some deeper, more emotional / human tracks then working towards some more playful / more energetic tracks." These 'futurebeats', as he describes this particular sound, consist of a blend of IDM, breakbeat, ambient & dub.  This style can be heard sprinkled throughout his ‘Jurassimo’ EP which was just released on our own record label, Never Late.  Tensen Park included two of his own tracks in the mix, in addition to a collection of tracks that he has been listening to for the past couple of months.

For this mix, Lucie dives into deeper ambient landscapes, showing the same thoughtful sensitivity that shapes her work. Over the past decade, Lucie has refined her musical voice behind the counter at Phonica Records, guiding London’s ambient and downtempo seekers most Saturdays, building connections, sharing music, and fostering community along the way.

She’s the founder of Introspective Electronics, a platform for radio shows, guest mixes, and listening events. Together with producer and DJ Alicia, she also curates Terra Obscura, an intimate club night series devoted to slower, introspective sounds.

OMM Transmission 013 || Moon Patrol @Above Below Festival 2024

Today's guest mix arrives as the perfect soundtrack to these scorching summer days that seem to stretch on endlessly, capturing the vibrant energy and laid-back vibe of the season. We welcome Vakula, a leading figure in the Ukrainian electronic music scene.

The journey began in 1998, behind the decks of a local radio station, where Vakula played drum & bass and trip-hop sets for a handful of night listeners. By 2004, he was already diving into the deep waters of dub techno, drawn not by fashion, but by a persistent inner frequency.
Soon after, Vakula moved to the capital — a city now at war — where he spent eleven formative years. The original plan was simple: earn enough money to reach a Buddhist monastery in Tibet. But life, borders, and timing had other ideas. Instead, he stayed and followed sound.
Over the years, Vakula became part of the underground scene, eventually becoming a resident at iconic clubs such as Propaganda and Zeppelin, while also playing in many of the legendary venues of that era. By 2008, music had turned into a passport, taking him across continents to places where electronic sound truly thrived.
Genre was never a boundary. Jazz, rock, hip-hop, ambient, house, techno, drum & bass — everything served the same purpose: to explore, to feel, to connect. In 2011, he returned to his small hometown and built an analog studio, carving out space to listen more deeply.
Over time, the surface of the global scene began to feel thinner, less sacred. In 2020, he stepped back from performance and immersed himself in a three-year exploration of shamanic practices — not for spectacle, but for personal insight. This inner work changed his relationship with sound, and opened up new levels of depth, stillness, and presence in his music.
By 2025, Vakula let go of the path of the spirits, realizing that some stories are not his to walk. Vakula returned, not to where he started, but to a clearer understanding of his role: to keep listening, to keep creating, and to stay honest in sound.
Through it all, Vakula remains one of the early pioneers and enduring voices in the Ukrainian electronic scene — not the mainstream one, but a world of his own: where forest replaces the city center, where meadows stand in for mindless entertainment, and where trees are steadier than fleeting friendships. His connection to Ukraine has never been about slogans. It’s a quiet, unwavering love — for the land, for the people who still feel, and for his hometown of Konotop, which lives in every frequency he shapes.
