TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ LUKE HESS

Born in 1980 and raised in the Detroit area, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement.  His background in mathematics and engineering has given him a scientific approach to the dance floor, using frequencies, tones, and  soundscapes to transform surroundings and mood.  
His faith based music production has landed him numerous vinyl releases ( EP's, LP's, and remixes ) on labels like Planet-e, Rekids, FXHE, Echocord, Kontra Musik, Dolly, Finale Sessions, Ornaments, and Prime Numbers among others.  His debut album was  released in early May 2009 by Denmark based label Echocord.  In 2010 he began his own interpretation of Detroit techno with his new Detroit project and record label - DeepLabs.  
His sophomore album “Keep On” was released on FXHE records in 2012 and received a Recommended 4.5/5 rating on Resident Advisor. With 20 years of DJ experience, he is regarded as a perfectionist behind the decks layering his tracks in a very detailed and hypnotic manner.  
Luke has played at many notable venues and festivals in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America including 10 separate appearances at the illustrious Berghain/Panoramabar in Berlin. Luke’s continued hard work in the studio and as a music collector/curator combined with his unyielding interest in technology and sound will no doubt stimulate the boundaries of electronic music.

Portal Episode 60 by Markus Suckut and Luke Hess

Rarely do musical collaborations like today’s premiere come around. More often than not it’s a pair of artists teaming up, perhaps a trio here or there. To have four, marks a special occasion. For their third ‘Sphere’ release of the series, Munich based imprint IO Records continues the practice of looking inwards. As a veritable mix and match of all the founders plus a few close friends equate to a jam packed 14 track volume that manages to showcase each artist's unique sound. While simultaneously showing off their collective talents to work together seamlessly.

Breaking Force brings together a plethora of elements as the dub influences leap out immediately. Setting the tone for the duration through to the breakdown and providing the main melodic touch. Additionally, rich textures and tweaked synths are expertly layered on top. This combination with the snippy hi-hats and snares provide a genre bending tune that blurs the line between bass, half-time, dub and everything in between.

Breaking Force and the rest of the ‘Sphere Vol. 3’ release will be available, April 30th.

PREMIERE: FTP Doctor X Tenzia X Polygonia X Dycide - Breaking Force [IO]

We’re kicking off the new year with the debut self-release from Melbourne-based artist Fefe, whose seven-track mini-LP, Sketches from Memories, drops in just a few days. This release is a reflection of Fefe’s creative journey over the past five years, capturing the evolution of his sound through a thoughtful collection of tracks.
Our premiere today, Ghost Gum, is an evocative piece that blends gentle, textured percussion with earthy synth tones and a haunting saxophone melody. The track conjures the imagery of a ritualistic dance deep within a forest, brimming with otherworldly energy.
Sketches from Memories will be available on Bandcamp starting January 15th.

PREMIERE: Fefe - Ghost Gum

Spiraling melodies and half time tempos spring to the forefront for our premiere today, titled Ravina. Portuguese artists Floating Machine and Inerte have combined talents for a contribution to the Berlin and Lisbon based event series and label, Art Bei Ton. The fifth edition of their VA series, ‘Seeing Cursed Spirits’ will soon be released that showcases a variety of sounds. All nestled within the folds of deep and hypnotic techno.

Ravina evolves, slowly but surely. Each pulse of the percussion brings new life and energy into the air. A soft pad floats in the background, ethereal and ever-shifting, creating a sense of vast space that’s peppered with bright auditory textures giving movement and spontaneity as they jump around the listener. Gradually, voices become more pronounced, their distant melodies forming a loop that seems to repeat and evolve in subtle variations, like a mantra or chant. The panning continues to play with perception, shifting focus gently from one side to the other until the ending moments as each element slowly falls away.

Art Bei Ton’s latest VA will be released on the 16th of January and includes offerings from a diverse set of artists including Viels, PEIX, and Nao Nhil.

Seeing Cursed Spirits

PREMIERE: Floating Machine & Inerte - Ravina [Art Bei Ton]

The third release on Lola Haro’s Small Steps label from Belgium sees German producer DJ Balduin step up with a contribution that embodies the label's sound. Known for his intricate, warm house basslines, clever loops, and breaks, DJ Balduin delivers a three-track EP, Everything, capturing the fleeting magic when light meets dark. Out on Valentine’s Day, 14th February, the release includes the track Somar and will be available in digital and vinyl formats via Bandcamp.

The EP is all about mood and movement. In Somar, DJ Balduin plays with a mixture of rising and melancholic pads, including distant bird chatter and playful loops. A punchy beginning, the tracks mellow into moments of bliss, offering warmth throughout. The interplay of light and dark is palpable and emotive, evoking euphoria reminiscent of sunrise sets at festivals—those moments that shift the tempo and prepare us for another day of dancing.

Small Steps and DJ Balduin captures these intangible moments with its sound: the eye contact on the dancefloor, subtle smiles, and the pull of the kick drum as we sway.

PREMIERE: DJ Balduin - Somar [Small Steps]

Through overwhelming days and times of strife, an emphasis to look inwards and reflect seems appropriate. Outside stressors abound, almost at every turn it seems as the world claws at your mental stability. Italian producer, dj and more, Simone Gatto’s forthcoming Invisible Love album on his own Pregnant Void imprint marks a response to these negative forces. Giving space, soft moments of introspection and smooth melodies that all lend well to its healing nature.

Like a deep breath, The Secret of Quantum Life slowly begins. In and out, in and out. The meditative nature can’t be ignored, Simone’s background influences coming through in spades as warm tones envelop the listener, accentuated by generative warbles providing movement and spontaneity. As the track progresses, varying swirls and melodic eddies appear, like changes in the wind.

Gatto’s Invisible Love album will be released on the 7th of February.

PREMIERE: Simone Gatto - The Secret Of Quantum Life [Pregnant Void]

Time flies—what started as a platform to spotlight music we love has reached an incredible milestone: our 500th premiere. Over the years, we've witnessed trends emerge, evolve, and transform into something entirely new. Within these 500 premieres, we've featured a kaleidoscope of styles and genres, but at the heart of it all, the music has always been deep, introspective, and original—an authentic reflection of the artists who create it.
We're thrilled to present Ojalá by Dutch artist Love Over Entropy for this special occasion. Taken from the long-awaited album "To Sit Quietly Where Everything Is Moving Fast," set to be released via Something Happening Somewhere, this track radiates optimism and quiet determination—qualities that feel perfectly encapsulated in its title.
Ojalá unfolds with gentle confidence, its uplifting keys and delicate arpeggiator lines moving together like a conversation that flows without effort. There's an understated elegance here—a lightness that never veers into excess. Each element breathes in unison, giving the track a natural, organic momentum.
The word ojalá, with its roots in hope and possibility, feels like a guiding principle for the music. It's as if Love Over Entropy has captured that sentiment and translated it into sound: a wish carried forward, subtle but powerful.

Lyder’s new album “weird fishes” is a shimmering dive into the unknown. With effervescent textures and dreamlike instrumentations, the electroacoustic trio invites listeners into a surreal seascape. Saxophone, violin, voice, and keys, all filtered and transformed, weave through ambient waters that feel both tender and disorienting. Each track explores a distinct layer of the deep – from sunlit shallows to abyssal ruins where forgotten echoes linger. “weird fishes” is a sonically fluid journey: colorful, strange, and full of hidden life.
