The Silvery Water ( & Starry Earth) is a 12th centry alchemic manuscript "al-Mā’ al-Waraqī wa'l-Arḍ an-Najmīya) written by the hermatic Ibn Umayl. The artwork is an Illustration from a transcript 1211 of The Silvery Water. Ibn Umayl described a statue of an ancient sage holding a tablet inscribed with symbolic pictograms. He understands those to represent the quintessence of alchemical knowledge and names it The Letter from the Sun to the Moon. Later similar depictions were inspired by it, e.g. in Aurora consurgens and in Theatrum Chemicum.

"Aurora Consurgens" is a commentary by Thomas Aquinas a Latin translation of "The Silvery Water". Unusual for a work of this type, the text is accompanied by about thirty-seven fine miniatures in watercolour. The illustrations are representations of alchemical symbols depicted in human or animal form.

Priori’s hit EP Pareidolia gets a well deserved remix treatment. The relation between Priori and Midgar started early 2023 with the release of his Pareidolia EP, where a remix for Keplrr followed quickly the year after. Now, early 2025, a group of close friends and admired artists were invited to rework the Pareidolia’s originals.

Midgar affiliate Forest Drive West uses the opportunity to present not one but two remixes. Presenting one half-time 85 bpm twist of Hazard and another slow-paced murky techno groover. Originally from Montreal, Maara forms the Canadian connection and she turns Memory Palace into a beautiful bouncy dub-techno floater. Sound experimentalist Notte Infinita takes his turn on Pareidolia’s title track and creates some magnificent eyes-closed drum & bass hypnotism. At last, Amsterdam’s upsammy brings back the light with her iconic playful approach. She flips the steady groove of Glass Shards into a jumpy interplay of rhythms and joy.

The relationship between the visual and auditory creative realms is a close one. Equally as expressive, and open to experimentation, both seem to elevate the other when done tastefully and in combination. It comes to no surprise then, that our premiere for today is from a collaboration between Javier Marimon, and Daniel[i], as JD. A great producer outright, Javier Marimon’s visual contributions range far and wide in our scene, through various label logos, club flyers, album artworks and more, his touch is undeniable, and recognizable. Equally so for his German counterpart on the release, as Daniel[i]'s productions are near and dear to all our hearts.

Continuing a structure of other prior collaborations and releases on Off Tangent, focused around shortened production periods and an emphasis on raw sessions, Javier and Daniel[i]’s time together has coalesced into the seventh release on Javier’s imprint. Titled Segments I and II, the two tracker sits well within the wheelhouse of both artists, shedding light on what is possible from a few meetings and a knack for when something is finished.

Segment II arrives precisely when it means to. Each element unfolds at its own pace, maintaining tension, movement, keeping things interesting however deftly so. Not overt, but subtle. Textures, and off kilter bass lines intermix with muted melodies and cast a shadow over all.

Segments I and II will be released on the 28th of May on Off Tangent Recs.

For their inaugural release, London-based Vysyon presents Mercuri: an enchanting EP of enigmatic techno featuring work by Swiss artists @varuna4053 & @mateohurtadomusic.

Having developed their brand of abyssal club music through releases on Amenthia Recordings & their own imprint A Walking Contradiction, Varuna dive into the void on ‘Remote Pulsar’. Driven by a disorientating polyrhythm cloaked in opaque atmospherics, the trio’s otherworldly approach to sound design is on full display. By contrast, the pounding 4/4 kick & propulsive acid bass of ‘Uvez Echos’ entrance the listener into a state of dancefloor reverie.

Mateo Hurtado casts his own unique magic over the flip, showcasing his archetypal mystic sound established via an album on Annulled music & remixes for Space Drum Meditation. The mesmerising flute melody of ‘An Invisible Fire, Working In Secret’ casts a spell of hypnosis, while the flowing, amorphous pads & twisted bass of ‘The Eternal Mirror’ conjure visions of worlds unknown.

Four futuristic 'manevre' (Romanian for 'manoeuvres') from Cosmin TRG and DYL, moving fluidly between tempos and atmospheres. Cosmin TRG, known for crafting some of the underground's most innovative sounds a decade ago, teams up here for the first time with fellow Romanian DYL. Manevra 2 is shifted expertly by Tammo Hesselink — his remix adds more prominent drums, lurching loops, and a menacing dystopian energy.
