This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Iffie is a dj and project currator based in Athens.
Her sound explores dark and deep elements with an affinity for modern techno. She loves making her sets as cohesive as possible, intertwining various genres by leaving no room for sudden transitions.
She has established her own Podcast Series called Into The Abyss.

For the past 20 years, Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo, known by his moniker STBL (@stable-mechanism), has been developing his work in the realms of electronic music and sound art. With beginnings deeply rooted in the most elusive and daring music, he has strived to maintain a stylistic coherence, oscillating between distinctly minimalist approaches and more "musical" ones, always balancing sobriety and rhetoric.

Author's note: My proposal for Temple clearly reflects all the paths I have been exploring in recent years, utilising field recordings, generative synthesis, and more classical ambient patterns. As is customary, each live performance by STBL is ephemeral and unique to each occasion, making this recording a snapshot of the present and a memory of my appearance at the marvellous Espacio Perpendicular.

#temple_for_listeners is an event dedicated to attentive listening and static dance, curated by Camu and Josephine's Soundscapes for Espacio Perpendicular.

In the vast expanse of our cosmos, each human encounter forms a constellation—a fleeting alignment of stars illuminating the darkness of our solitude. We traverse these celestial bodies, orbiting others, drawn by the gravity of shared experiences and emotions. Yet, how often do we land upon these planets—these people—only to find barren landscapes devoid of the life we once imagined? The air is thin, and the soil yields no harvest. Every planet we visit remains dead.

This is not a physical death, nor the finality of existential cessation, but a death of potential, of growth. It is the realization that those we once thought vibrant have remained untouched by the currents of time, unchanged by the flux of experience. In these moments, we confront the stillness of their being and the immobility of their thought. The life we anticipated finding in their presence is a mirage, a projection of our desire for meaning and connection.

Roland Barthes spoke of the “death of the author,” suggesting that the interpretation of a text lies in the hands of the reader, not its creator. In the same vein, we might be complicit in these lifeless encounters. As the readers of others’ lives, we impose narratives upon them, expecting evolution, change, and enlightenment. When we find none, when the text of their existence remains unaltered, we are confronted with our disillusionment. It is we who have authored the expectation of their transformation, and it is we who must reckon with their inertia.

In his reflections on seeing, John Berger reminds us that “the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.” When we meet those from our past, what we see is coloured by the knowledge we have since acquired—the awareness of our becoming, our transformations. We have journeyed and changed and look to others to affirm our evolution. But what if they are blind to their potential? What if the world remains flat to them and the stars are fixed in the sky?

To encounter these static souls is to confront the possibility that they are always dead. It is to acknowledge that not all who breathe are alive in the truest sense. Some are mere echoes, reverberating in the chambers of our memory, lacking substance in the present. They are the shadows on the cave wall, the ghosts of what might have been unanimated by the light of experience.

Thus, every planet we visit remains dead, not because they have failed us, but because they have remained themselves. They are the fixed points around which we orbit, measuring the progress of our voyage through the contrast of their stasis. In this realization lies the paradox of human connection: to see others is to acknowledge their limitations, and in doing so, we come to see ourselves more fully. The death we observe in others reflects the death we fear in ourselves—the death of growth, change, and the capacity to become more than we are.

To leave a planet behind, then, is not an act of abandonment but of survival. It is to recognize the necessity of moving forward and finding those rare celestial bodies where life does flourish, the soil is fertile, and the air is filled with possibility. Only in these living encounters can we continue to evolve, learn, and truly inhabit the brief span of our years.

For this one we're glad to bring to your tables a really eclectic and breaky session by Apprentis. 

He is a multi genre producer/dj who has over 10 years of experience in both producing and DJ.
Starting to produce at the age of 18 he got signed by publishing Next Era and from there on his tracks reached a wider audience.
From there, Apprentis has played at various places in Amsterdam like the now defunct Marktkantine, Patronaat, Red Light Radio, Radio Radio and a lot more clubs/radios.
Besides playing as DJ, Apprentis has also received airplay for his tracks on BBC Radio1, Rinse FM, and NTS Radio. Also having his tracks played by various DJ’s around the world.

Dutch artist Stefan Vincent returns to Amsterdam-based imprint MUSAR Recordings to conclude the melancholic journey he began with the 'Pre' edition last June. This release tells an honest, raw story of embracing solemn moods and the positive, transformative impact they can have on life.

The track ‘You Know This Isn’t Going To End Well’ begins with a sense of curiosity, drawing us into its intriguing atmosphere. Melancholy underpins the whole release, and that’s the same for this track, imparting an ominous tone, yet tempered by a subtle, whimsical touch in the melody. This melody is juxtaposed against the dynamic contrast of drum and bass patterns and IDM foundations, creating this captivating interplay, full of class.

As the track progresses, it becomes increasingly hypnotic, with a steady rhythm that drives forward with subtle persistence. Like travelling down an endless street, the destination seems unclear—until suddenly, everything falls into place. One thing is certain: this journey ends well.
