Coming off of contributions to VA releases on Suzie (Cleveland’s fresh faced label), From A Lost Place, and an EP early last year on De Lichting, Queniv is entering 2022 as part of Mirror Tapes Worldwide. Spanning the globe, the aptly named compilation is the first in a series of releases on Melbourne based DJ, and producer Citizen Maze’s new Mirror Tapes label.

Much like the name implies, ‘In The Midst’ embodies those hazy moments where sharp edges are lost, time seems to warp, shifting right before your very eyes. The drums coalesce for the briefest of windows before lapsing back into an esoteric beat. All the while soothing melodic breezes shift around your head providing a respite against the onslaught of what lies ahead.

In The Midst, along with the rest of Mirror Tapes Worldwide will be released on Bandcamp on the 25th of January.

PREMIERE: Queniv - In The Midst [Mirror Tapes]

A new year and a new downtempo gem is coming from one of our favorite and one of the most prolific producers, Simon Huxtable, aka Inhmost. ‘Space and Awareness’ is the eighth album from Inhmost and a debut release on Tonight’s Dream Records, a record label and mix series based in Brighton, UK. 

Inhmost says it best: “Space & Awareness was made at a time when I felt particularly conscious and receptive of the space around me, and I wanted to create an atmosphere that reflected this organically. <> I did not want this album to just be purely ambient, so the use of downtempo beat structures and rhythms felt like a more appropriate way to convey the variety of emotions that I was feeling at the time.” 

We don’t know where Simon was producing the album, but each of the seven tracks on it is breathtakingly beautiful, and we are seriously tempted to visit the place that inspired it. 

The closing ‘Morning Break’ track sent us to a space that is simultaneously serene and extra-sensory. Listening to it feels like going through some sort of purifying ritual, drifting in a cloud of transparent and unspoiled sound. You come down from its heavenly atmospherics feeling all renewed with recalibrated vision, and instantly wanting to relive it again.

After releasing his Mantras LP almost a year ago, Continental Drift Records co-head Conoley Ospovat is back with the Rise Together EP. The A-side brings lush, deep house sounds, with the B-side featuring some more hard-hitting house. Today we’re premiering the A1 track — Dreams of Summer, a very relatable name and track during this time of winter. 

Emitting positive and bright vibes, the track features a vocoder voice, some happy chords, and steady percussion that keeps you dancing throughout the whole track. Make a nice cup of tea, lay back, and enjoy this beautiful reverie, as you dream of summer. That’s what we’ll be doing until this cold winter passes. The Rise Together EP, including Dreams of Summer, will be released on Continental Drift Records on February 11th, 2022.

PREMIERE: Conoley Ospovat - Dreams Of Summer [Continental Drift]

The Barcelona-based duo Iro Aka are about to self-release their six track compilation, Ametrine Horizon.

The release ranges from acid-infused downtempo on Indigo, to ambient breakbeat on Blooms In, to psychedelic dance-floor euphoria on Oort Speis. Today, we’re happy to bring you 7 minutes and a half of melody and rhythm on Fukushia, the release’s closer.

The track starts out with a thumping kick, steady percussion and a floating pad, sustained throughout the track with the exception of a few mini-breaks as well as an extended breakdown at the halfway mark. The bleep inspired melody keeps our attention for the duration of the track, before it disintegrates and nothing but the synth pad remains until the track comes to a halt. Fukushia, part of the Ametrine Horizon compilation, comes out on February 11th, 2022. The track as well as the full release are now available for pre-order on Bandcamp.

Rarefact is the title of Vishal Unni's upcoming release on Qilla Records and the track we happily host its premiere. Smoothly and gradually, its subterranean groove shakes its foundation and provokes, in turn, an unintentional mood elevation and body participation. Thus, complemented by tender pads and flickering background noise, the loop embraces us as it carefully unwinds. Leading, then, to a delightfully rewarding drop that introduces us to the track's closing chapter. A high-quality dance composition reminiscing adventurous excursions to obscure and dark dance floors. Or, in Vishal's words: "an ode to the Indian dance floors". MNMT Premiere: Vishal Unni - Rarefact

After contributing a remix of Analog Context's 'Amygdala' and a track on the Artmosphere Volume 3 compilation, the Qilla Records A&R Vishal Unni is back with a six-track EP 'Rarefact' that also features remixes from ZRK and Martyn Päsch. 

Vishal is a Bangalore-based producer & DJ with a sound that can be described as a symbiosis of the deeper realms of techno, laced with futuristic soundscapes and psychedelic characteristics.

Our premiere for today, 'Asthayi,' is a dark, hypnotic broken-beat escapade infused with classic 303 acid synths. 

'Rarefact' releases on December 5th, with pre-orders on November 21st.

PREMIERE: Fefe - Ghost Gum

Spiraling melodies and half time tempos spring to the forefront for our premiere today, titled Ravina. Portuguese artists Floating Machine and Inerte have combined talents for a contribution to the Berlin and Lisbon based event series and label, Art Bei Ton. The fifth edition of their VA series, ‘Seeing Cursed Spirits’ will soon be released that showcases a variety of sounds. All nestled within the folds of deep and hypnotic techno.

Ravina evolves, slowly but surely. Each pulse of the percussion brings new life and energy into the air. A soft pad floats in the background, ethereal and ever-shifting, creating a sense of vast space that’s peppered with bright auditory textures giving movement and spontaneity as they jump around the listener. Gradually, voices become more pronounced, their distant melodies forming a loop that seems to repeat and evolve in subtle variations, like a mantra or chant. The panning continues to play with perception, shifting focus gently from one side to the other until the ending moments as each element slowly falls away.

Art Bei Ton’s latest VA will be released on the 16th of January and includes offerings from a diverse set of artists including Viels, PEIX, and Nao Nhil.

The third release on Lola Haro’s Small Steps label from Belgium sees German producer DJ Balduin step up with a contribution that embodies the label's sound. Known for his intricate, warm house basslines, clever loops, and breaks, DJ Balduin delivers a three-track EP, Everything, capturing the fleeting magic when light meets dark. Out on Valentine’s Day, 14th February, the release includes the track Somar and will be available in digital and vinyl formats via Bandcamp.

The EP is all about mood and movement. In Somar, DJ Balduin plays with a mixture of rising and melancholic pads, including distant bird chatter and playful loops. A punchy beginning, the tracks mellow into moments of bliss, offering warmth throughout. The interplay of light and dark is palpable and emotive, evoking euphoria reminiscent of sunrise sets at festivals—those moments that shift the tempo and prepare us for another day of dancing.

Small Steps and DJ Balduin captures these intangible moments with its sound: the eye contact on the dancefloor, subtle smiles, and the pull of the kick drum as we sway.

PREMIERE: DJ Balduin - Somar [Small Steps]

Through overwhelming days and times of strife, an emphasis to look inwards and reflect seems appropriate. Outside stressors abound, almost at every turn it seems as the world claws at your mental stability. Italian producer, dj and more, Simone Gatto’s forthcoming Invisible Love album on his own Pregnant Void imprint marks a response to these negative forces. Giving space, soft moments of introspection and smooth melodies that all lend well to its healing nature.

Like a deep breath, The Secret of Quantum Life slowly begins. In and out, in and out. The meditative nature can’t be ignored, Simone’s background influences coming through in spades as warm tones envelop the listener, accentuated by generative warbles providing movement and spontaneity. As the track progresses, varying swirls and melodic eddies appear, like changes in the wind.

Time flies—what started as a platform to spotlight music we love has reached an incredible milestone: our 500th premiere. Over the years, we've witnessed trends emerge, evolve, and transform into something entirely new. Within these 500 premieres, we've featured a kaleidoscope of styles and genres, but at the heart of it all, the music has always been deep, introspective, and original—an authentic reflection of the artists who create it.
