Our next contributor, Eli Verveine (@eli-verveine), has been DJing for over 20 years, first establishing herself at local Zurich venues like Dachkantine and later on international stages.

Verveine’s DJing is patient, and it rewards that same patience in the listener. In this Q&A we dive into this concept and how it applies more generally to learning the art of DJing over time. Anecdotes from parties over the years – including an earlier epic set at Renate – help illustrate how Verveine has navigated the dilemmas of expressing creativity from the DJ booth.

The accompanying mix is a live recording of a recent gig in Gothenburg, and after a measured opening you can soon hear the crowd roar their appreciation during the breaks in Lil Louis’s ‘Blackout’ – patience, as ever, bringing its just rewards.

"Besides being a very special event, Mostra is also a small community where respect and admiration between audiences and artists is essential. Taking place in the outstanding Montjuic Castle, Mostra had an exciting programme where dance and experimentation were at the same level.

For my live set I used some classic analog instruments, playing realtime rhythms and improvising harmonies over some preprogrammed sequences and creating deep grooves and atmospheres with the support of intense profound sub-basses.

Dycide is a producer/DJ, professional sound designer and visual artist from Munich/Germany. He is playing piano since he is 5 years old and started producing ambient music as a teenager. He established the Dycide pseudonym in 2014 to release mainly minimalistic deep drum and bass. Slowly he started changing more and more to techno oriented music. Meanwhile he and his close friends established IO, an audiovisual label, focusing on experimental ambient and deep techno and atmospheric artwork. Besides these projects he is working as an interactive sound designer and audio software developer.

Deep is truly in the essence of everything Fred does and its honest reflection shines brightest in his two latest albums "Oasis" and "Abstract Soul" which dropped back to back this year accompanied by some heavy in demand 12's on his Private Society imprint. That very essence is showcased in this mix he put together for us. Grooving through all sounds that have inspired the mind of this artist and cutting into deep layered moods of house, funk and techier bits this is a divine look into how Fred P approaches sound.
