During the Couchsurfing weekly meeting event at Casafish Cafe in the old Medina (town) of Casablanca. Members were jamming and singing traditional Gnaoua music! I was very impressed with the talented young members. It's a 5-minute recording, and I wish it was longer. Have fun; they deserve to be heard.

What you're hearing is music played by a group of Moroccan musicians strolling through the streets of Casablanca. The music they're performing is a captivating blend of traditional Dekka Merkachiya (popular in Marrakech, known for its diverse rhythms and sounds echoing through the streets) alongside Gnawa and Issawa music, integral to Moroccan folklore. The instrumental lineup features traditional instruments like Ghabri or Hajhouj, drums, flute, and Krakeb, creating a rich tapestry of sounds. The lyrics delve into religious, freedom, or spiritual themes. Having recorded their performance, playing it back to them sparked genuine excitement! Their music is truly an immersive experience.

Over 3 hours of non-stop magic, blending Gnawa, Electronic, Chaabi Jazz, reggae, and more. Performing alongside incredibly talented artists whom I’d never met before was a delightful experience. Our shared love for music spoke volumes, transcending the need for words. ❤️🇲🇦🎶
