Kadeejah Streets Live Open 2 Close for Control Room @ Kremwerk (2-24-22)

Sometimes you realize that it's burn day and you have WAY too much leftover meat in various coolers at somewhat questionable temperatures. So you pull the grill out to the bar, and fire her up. Other campmates bring more food, you get out the megaphone and feed the neighborhood all day. If you're lucky, your favorite dj from home (and role model camp creator)will have camped with you that year and magically have 12 hours of songs with words on them AND be in the mood to not leave the decks all day. History will be made and a favorite tradition formed. Minds blown, songs sung at the top of many lungs, and much dust kicked up by many boots.

Years later you'll want to start a soundcloud page for camp, and maybe drag your feet for a while, but along will come a mix, slaved away on throughout a pandemic, by the very dj that set the tone for that magical experience. Part of a series representing our remergence from said pandemic, and a certain psychedelic therapy that feels like a romp around the playa. So you’ll start the soundcloud and just like the Annual Impromptu Questionable Meat Bonanza, a new platform for us to express ourselves will be created under the guidance of the same dj who’s already had such an indelible impact on our culture.

As always, this year's Burning Man was out of this world. It was great seeing so many familiar faces and camps after a three year break, and a big thank you to Church of Now for hosting Bad Ideas & Friends for their welcome party. Here's part of my set from the party, where I was also joined by my good friends Bigfoot and MediciMedici. I hope you enjoy!

Special thanks to Chris Offutt  for giving me space on the Proton Radio platform, and to Jeremy Linden and Kerry Linden for providing me a quiet space to record...and am not interrupted by yelling at my kids! 😉 As well, Thanks to Valerie Nathan for the inspiration of the use of the word 'Apricity' (which means the warmth of the sun in winter) for the mix...when she posted this word, I built it from that, during the solstice. Recess has been in a long term love affair with Seattle’s underground music scene for the past couple of decades. In the late 80′s he found his second home at the long defunct Club Underground in Seattle’s University District (along with DJ Dominator aka Donald Glaude, DJ Dan and many others). During the 90s he bounced between raves, rock shows and jazz clubs appreciating the passion and community behind the scenes. Using these early experiences as a platform, he started collecting records and honing his skills at various clubs around the Northwest; quickly establishing himself as a formidable performer. 

In 2003 he founded Shameless Productions (responsible for numerous legendary underground club nights, parties and shenanigans). Along with a changing cast of players, over the years, Shameless established itself as a trust worthy brand by throwing some of the most memorable events the Seattle's undergound dance music community. From day one, each Shameless party was a special one regardless of the wide ranges of genres and bookings represented. With an eye towards the cutting edge, but deep respect for electronic music's rich history, Shameless has kept it's finger on the pulse of Seattle's underground for close to 20 years. 

In 2006 Recess was nominated as one of Seattle Weekly's best local DJs. His DJ sets often reflect Shameless' aesthetic by focusing on forward thinking music while cherishing the gems of the past. He'll span the various sub genres of house/disco music, and also weave through techno, electro, breaks depending upon the party. His range, passion and deep understanding of the dancefloor has made him a longtime favorite underground club DJ in Seattle and the greater Northwest. Whether it’s an afterhours loft space, major club, mountaintop, or random BASSment; Recess has consistently brought the sounds and energy to fit any dance party.
