After years of contemplation, I have devoted significant effort to the concept of creating music conducive to sleep. One particular evening, while listening to side D of Roger Waters' vinyl album "The Dark Side of the Moon Redux," I experienced a moment of inspiration that sparked the genesis of a new project.

During the recording sessions of their iconic album "The Dark Side of the Moon" in 1972, Pink Floyd engaged in a unique practice. They ventured into the surrounding community and engaged ordinary individuals in conversations regarding existential questions. The responses gathered were subsequently integrated throughout the entirety of the studio album.

My creative instinct led me to invert this approach. Drawing upon the voice of the visionary Roger Waters, I incorporated it throughout a completely improvised recording of modern classical music. My aim was to cultivate something unconventional, profound, and authentic, devoid of conventional patterns or preconceptions. Viewing life through the lens of a tree's perspective, I sought to blur the distinction between noise and melody, reflecting the receptivity inherent in both. Observing the world outside my window pulsating with its own imperfections—traffic sounds, notifications, and aircraft—I endeavored to encapsulate the essence of our environment in musical form, while honoring the elegant architecture of a tree.

Subsequently, I have found solace in listening to this recording during my morning meditations, noticing a significant enhancement in my ability to concentrate, with my average focus time extending from 20 to nearly 45 minutes. This inaugural installment marks the commencement of a series of recordings aimed at exploring emerging contemporary classical artists, synthesizing acoustic and electronic compositions. Personally, I regard this endeavor as my most ambitious and accomplished recording to date.

The initial seven minutes of silence serve as a deliberate safeguard, preserving the essence of the tree from those who may not appreciate its beauty. Every element within the composition unfolds with purpose, urging patience and encouraging listeners to surrender to the natural flow of the music.

Two lesser-known but super funky Bobby Thurston tracks get The Reflex Revision treatment, taking these down and dirty boogie album originals and exposing both the Go-Go soul and house roots buried in the mix. Prelude stalwarts Willie Lester, guitarist/songwriter Rodney Brown and engineer Bob Dawson had brought their Washington D.C. sound to the label’s biggest successes, including those of Gayle Adams (“Your Love is a Life Saver”) and Sharon Redd (“Can You Handle It.”) For these slightly grittier Bobby Thurston tracks, Lester and Brown’s band feel every one of their slower beats (102 BPM for “I Know You Feel Like I Feel” and a hypnotizing 78 BPM for “I Want Your Body.”) From 1981’s The Main Attraction, “I Know You Feel” seduces you with old school brass and a traditional structure; it practically begs you to find a dance partner. Isolating the vocals and backbeat, The Reflex makes Louie Oxley’s filthy Go-Go Moog bassline the star of his Revision. He also reveals Theodore “Sugarbear” Jones’s fabulous but hidden Chic-esque guitar riff. 1980’s “I Want Your Body” features a more radical Revision from The Reflex, starting by exposing the lush strings and brass and holding off the “drop” of the funky drummer until the final minute of the song, by which time the sexual tension has reached breaking point.
