Dearest Sir,

Your kind correspondence speaks volumes unheard to the quiet throes of my heart. It has been a long summer, the days permeated by ceaselessly searing sun and cacophonous croaks of cicadas, and the nights broken up only by the screaming sirens of law enforcement pursuing me at unbelievably high speeds. In actuality, the fuzz has been on my tail for about three months straight, but I keep urging myself forward, desperate for escape – a mental fortitude granted to me expressly by crazygoji’s new project, furious focus.

This album, much like myself in my current state, truly never lets off the gas for a second. The instant loud, disorienting syncopation of smokey the bear meets pyro knocks you off your feet from the very beginning, giving you a clear idea of how the next half hour is going to treat you, followed by water waste’s fake-out intro leading into a warped but enthralling second half. Every track is extremely evocative – regal and illegal feels like a mad pursuit by an evil wizard of some kind, and its canyons almost feels like a scene from some demented nightclub. The drums on this project often take center stage, notably on football song, conversion and defeat me dude where relentless crashes and bitcrushed snares at what seems like 6,000 bpm move the project forward, and the juxtaposition of the blast-beat rock A side against the more powerful, industrial B side provides an interesting yet thematically consistent turn of events that keeps everything interesting. It’s not until the very end that we earn a reprieve from the madness, and what a reprieve it is! wishful thinking’s gorgeous detuned piano, quiet drums & haunting vocals provide a complete change of pace, and the album slows to a crawl in its final moments.

Dearest Archibald, I do have to run, as the sirens are getting louder and it’s far too troublesome to write with a big quill while trying to drive a motorcycle. I trust you will prevail through these romantic new times as I have, with a newfound focus… furiously.
