DJ Lina Luv Bio

Lina Luv recently re-rooted onto Hodïnohsö:ni’ land, and as a music selector wants to share the positive musical vibrations that move her heart, soul, and body. She sees music as healing, dancing as a primal expression of joy and celebration of life, and DJ’ing as the conduit for that healing transmission! Her musical selections weave together rhythms of African diaspora folk in its variety of iterations.

Honoring the sources of this music and the people and cultures who have created it, she intends that the voices and souls of these ancestors and traditions be heard through their universal musical vibrations.
 
Lina Luv is in service to the offering of this music and the communion of love, music, and dance that it inherently brings, connecting and empowering people together. She sees music and dance as expressions of joy, liberation, and resistance!
 
Lina Luv’s 25-year DJ herstory rooted and grew on Lenapehoking land (Philadelphia), where she performed and also enjoyed producing collaborative fundraising community events with other artists and musicians at local venues and festivals, including PEX Summerfest where she created the Healing Arts Sanctuary space, curated healing workshops, and DJ’d for the festival and Meso Creso camp yearly. 

In addition to her musical outlets, she is also a devoted mama to Mimi and medicine work practitioner (Natural Fertility Coaching + Acupuncture). She regularly connects with the ancestors through music, story, and the living world, is inspired by ritual, and is committed to cultivating community, awareness, gratitude, advocacy, and activism.

Bringing a show to FringeNYC. A frank discussion on the process of (procrastinating) preparing my show, "The Absolutely True Science of Nerds," to the New York International Fringe Festival. The show is a series of three satirical science lectures, on How to Become Batman, Star Trek vs Star Wars and Godzilla biology. 

I also speak with other FringeNYC creators to share stories of their runs to the Festival.

Down the line, the podcast will be dedicated to all things science and nerdy.

The band was formed when Nat and Krys met during a show at Iota Café in Arlington, VA back in 2008. Nat and Krys quickly bonded over their love for the YYYs, The Cure, Sleater-Kinney. Nat was slated to be the drummer while Krys would be the lead guitarist. However, it wasn't long before the duo realized Nat’s raw vocals was just what they were looking for.
Long time friend August (tito), and former member of several local projects, joined the band in 2015.

The Latino Media Collective is a grassroots Latino public-affairs program that airs on Pacifica station WPFW 89.3fm on Fridays @ 1pm EST in Washington DC.  

Live without a laptop, the six-piece House of Soul fuses the seamless and entrancing sets of an underground club DJ with the stirring sounds of live master performers. Like a good DJ, the band reads and reacts to the dancers, weaving improvised grooves, "remixes" of classic selections, and original tunes into non-stop sets that keep devoted dancers sweating.

House of Soul boasts six of the District's finest musicians who regularly perform jazz, soul, R&B, hip hop,and fusion around the city. We perform around the area from intimate places like Bossa and Velvet Lounge, to the Black Cat, to PEX Summer Festival.

"Let’s Move is a solid debut. While House of Soul aren’t pioneers in the band-based house music field, they are going down a road not many have traveled recently. The execution of all the players involved and Grason’s production skills would be graded extremely well on any scale, let alone for an independent, debut project. And for all of this, House of Soul should be commended, and played on repeat."
