My Dad Steve Romanoff wrote this song and performed it with Schooner Fare for years.  He based it on a Chinese proverb that went something along the lines of:

I take the water from my well,
Fresh air from outside my door,
Food from my own garden,
Kings can do no more

It is one of my favorites and i have wanted to cover it for a long time.
